Chapter 1
I turn the car engine off before looking into the rearview mirror. I fix my hair a little before stepping out of my car and locking the door. I didn’t really feel like attending this party. Especially due to the fact that it is happening out in the middle of the forest. That to me is just a horror movie waiting to happen. I have so many assignments for university due it's not even funny and so I just feel guilty and even more stressed when I choose to go out instead of getting
them done. I mean yeah sure, I may not be that productive even when I do choose to stay in my dorm at night but I do feel less guilty. It's dark outside but I'm able to see the faint glow of a fire from where I'm standing and I could faintly hear the music from here. The wind has an icy bite to it which makes me regret coming even more. I felt too bad not to come though. Alexis has been so excited about this party and being her best friend I know for a fact she wouldn’t attend if I didn’t. I pull on my car door handle to make sure it is locked before I start to make my way towards the party. It's taking all of my strength not to start running towards the party. It almost feels as if someone is watching me. Instead of running and looking silly I decide to instead just pick up the pace a little. I suddenly hear a crunch of leaves behind me that doesn’t match my step. Now I know for sure that I am not alone. Before I can even react though a strong hand clamps itself over my mouth. Suddenly everything around me becomes white and I feel like my heart has dropped into my stomach. My legs feel almost weightless. It is also deathly quiet
around me. I have no idea what is going on. My instinct then was to try and scream but suddenly color is restored to the world and I feel my feet hit a hard surface beneath me. My legs instantly buckle on impact but something, no someone, holds me up.
“Your fun is over Helena”
I jump at the sudden voice behind me. I realize the person speaking is the guy who is currently holding me up. Who is also probably the same guy that had grabbed me. Who is Helena? Why is he calling me Helena? I try to speak but I am trembling so much that I can’t properly form any words. I start to look around at where I am now standing. I am still in a forest but something
seems very off. The atmosphere just feels so different. The trees around me have deep green vibrant leaves unlike the forest from where I come from. Another very unsettling fact is that it is no longer dark around me. Instead It looks to be late noon. My mind can't seem to process what's going on and I start to feel very lightheaded.
“Well that was quick”
My head snaps over to a guy with black hair who is standing just ahead in front of me. He smirks as he says this. I also then notice a woman is standing next to him as well. She has fiery red hair and striking features. I watch then as her features suddenly shift into an expression of shock as she looks at me.
“Oh my word Thomas you’ve got the wrong person”
I suddenly feel the grip of the person behind me tighten as they roughly turn me around to face them. He holds me tight in my place as he looks over my face. His expression is unreadable. I feel my heartbeat hitch in my throat. I have no idea what is going on or who any of these people are. I have a good feeling though that they are more than capable of harming me. It feels as if
my throat starts to tighten and burn. My eyes start to sting as well. I can't seem to keep the hot tears from making their way down my cheeks. I’ve never felt so scared before. I just stand there frozen in my place. It's hard to see properly through my blurred vision but I can faintly make out an expression of guilt on the man's face before me. Although his expression quickly becomes unreadable again. I suddenly take a gasp of my breath as the first sob leaves my mouth.
“Please, please don't hurt me. Please I am begging you” I gasp out.
I never understood why people always say that in times where their life is in danger. It is only now, where I am in that situation that I understand it is simply instinct. I can't think of anything else to say. I have so many questions and I am so confused as to what is going on. Yet that is all I can seem to say at this moment. I suddenly feel as the guy before me loosens his grip on me, but immediately someone else grabs me from behind. I realize though that there is no anger or harshness in the grip. It is gentle and when they turn me around to face them I realize it is the women. Her expression shows sympathy which shocks me and she immediately pulls me into a tight
embrace.
“Hey, hey breathe. Gosh you are trembling.” she says. “I promise we're not gonna hurt you. Please just focus on breathing and calming down”
I don't know why but something in her voice tells me she is being genuine when she says that. I start to take in deep shaky breaths as I try to calm myself down. It is only when I stop trembling that she lets go of me and takes a small step back. She is silent for a moment before she speaks up again.
“What is your name?”
“Dawn Elderidge” I say
“Dawn” she repeats to herself. “Well Dawn my name is Aurora Ambrose. That is Damien Montilly ” She says pointing to the guy with black hair who is standing ahead of me. She then averts her attention to the guy with dark brown hair who is standing behind me. “And that guy who grabbed you, his name is Thomas Heisenberg” she pauses a moment before continuing. “There is no simple way to put this Dawn so i’ll just get straight to the point. You are no longer on earth. The easiest way for me to describe it is by saying you are basically in a whole new dimension. You are now in a world called Chrysalis and this world is very different from yours”
