Could it be?
Jude We pulled up to that house again. I've worked for Kade for 2 weeks and everyday on our way home he stops at this house. Her house. At least I think it's still her house, it's been years since I've seen or talked to her. But this was her house. The curiosity was starting to get me. Is it her? Why does Kade stop and see her everyday? Are they…together? I'm gonna ask. I have to know if it's her inside that house. “Alright be right back” Kade says as he hops out of the truck. “Ok” I shrug my shoulders, like I have a choice. Kade was my new boss. I've been working for him for about 2 weeks. He's a pretty cool dude. Covered in tattoos. Standing about six foot, dark brown hair, and blue eyes that can see through your soul. Not 15 minutes has passed and he comes running across the front lawn and climbing back in the truck. “Hey.” He says as he buckles his seatbelt. Gathering my courage, I have to know. “Soo what's the deal dude?” I ask motioning with my head towards the house. He looks towards the house. A small smirk grazing his face, “I guess it was only a matter of time till you asked, I would have asked 2 weeks ago.” he chuckled. He puts the truck into gear and pulls away. “A year or so ago, a buddy of mine was killed in a car accident, leaving my house. He left behind a wife and five kids. That's their house. I check in on them everyday. Help out when she lets me” He doesn't take his eyes off the road as he explains. It could still be her. f**k! “Well, that's cool of you to help her out. Five kids is a lot. I only have one and she's a handful.” “Yeah, Victoria's kids are a handful but they're good kids. They're old enough to help out and they help her out a lot. And where they can't, I fill in.” He says with a smile cracking across his face. Wait…did he say…VICTORIA! f**k ITS HER! IT'S HER! A nervous laugh escapes from me. I quickly looked out the window so he couldn't see the look on my face. “So what do you mean, when she lets you?” I try to force nonchalance into my voice. He laughs. “Oh well, Victoria's a very independent woman. She's not one to ask for help, like ever! That's why I stop by in person. If I text or call, she'll tell me she's fine, no matter what's going on.” He shakes his head while looking over at me, “not to mention she's hot as f**k!” he winks and wiggles his eyebrows. I raised my eyebrows in surprise. He could be so blunt. Kade busts out laughing. “Nah, dude. She's not like that. She's strong. She'd kick my ass if she heard me say that.” Kade laughs again.“Believe me I've tried, but after being married for so many years, she's just not into relationships of any kind. Like at all. CanWell, it's not really my place to say. But he did a number on her. Let's just leave it at that. She's still healing, she's come a long way but she's still a mess unfortunately.” Kade had a thoughtful look on his face, shaking his head slightly as he cut the engine. Looking out the window I see we're back at the office. That drive went faster than usual. “I guess, I'll see ya tomorrow” I waved as I got out of his truck and walked over to my car. No lie. It's a sweet ass car. I was smart to keep it in my name, otherwise I would have lost it in the divorce. Allison was dead set on taking everything or at least making sure I didn't get anything. I threw my work belt in the backseat and got in. Hearing the engine roar to life I couldn't help the smile spread across my face. She was a beast. 't really blame her though.” He sighs heavily. “What do you mean?” curiosity is getting the better of me. I know she didn't have the best marriage, I had hoped it got better for her. I always hoped she would get the happily ever after she deserved. I knew she was strong. I knew a lot about her relationship. We were once close, I'd dare say she was my best friend for a while. We talked everyday and shared everything, we had zero secrets.
