CHAPTER THREE
1821 Words
She stared at herself in the mirror and frowned. She was worshiped in school but maltreated at home.
“ gosh, I look terrible” Ava said quietly. Ava opened her make up kit and began to apply makeup on her face. She sighed
“ Ava you look great”she forces a smile “just smile…smile”she frowned
“ gosh”
Obi entered Ava’s room. Ava turned around and saw Obi
“ oh my gawd” Obi said worriedly as he saw Ava’s face.
“is it that bad?” Ava asked Obi
Obi nodded his head
“kinda” he said trying to be nice.
Obi sat on the bed
“ your aunt is a monster. How could she do this?why?”
Obi is the closest friend of Ava. And that is because of what happened in high school.
Obi wasn’t rich, for a fact he is one of the lucky ones who got into NEC through the scholarship programs. Obi words in 12th
grade attracted Ava “ personality like yours should be smothered, stabbed, beheaded, burnt then trashed ” Obi said this to Kola, NEC senior at that time. He was being bullied and he decided to fight back. His courage attracted Ava. Although his courage made him get beaten up by Kola, Obi still never accepted defeat.
Ava sighed
“ Kofi”
Obi looked puzzled
“ what’s with her with you dating Kofi?”
Ava hesitated
“ I don’t know. Maybe because of business deal”
“ hmmmmm” Obi said ,trying to understand what Ava said
“ so are going to do it?” Obi asked getting curious.
Ava stared at Obi looking perturbed
“ I just hate him. It’s obvious that he’s hiding something.” she sighed “ he has a bigger motive” she said skeptically.
“ or…do you hate him because he remind you of you?” Obi asked sharply.
Ava stared at Obi . She was getting annoyed. He knows her too well.
“ maybe” Ava said pensively.
They kept quiet for a while. There was nothing to be said again.
“ you need a make over” Obi said smiling.
Ava laughed
“ that’s why you are here” Ava said whimsically.

Dare was too intrigue in his game that he didn’t care when Kofi entered.
Kofi was angry. Ava just get on his nerves
“ gawd” he said angrily.
Kofi stared at Dare. He expected Dare to say something. But he didn’t. he just played his game. He moved closer to Dare
“ aren’t you curious?” Kofi asked getting annoyed.
“ nope” Dare said flatly.
Kofi was pained. Dare saw him as the center of attention. But now a stupid game has taken over that.
Kofi stared at the game control. He frowned. He moved closer to the TV and unplugged it. Dare stared at Kofi frowning
“ really?” Dare dropped the remote control and stood up “ what happened” Dare asked in a tone that shouted I- f*****g- don’t- care.
“ it’s that b***h. She get’s on my nerves” he chuckled angrily “ does she think it’s easy to be asking fools like her out?” Kofi said outrageously .
Dare scoffed
“ now she’s a b***h”
Kofi frowned at Dare.
“ if she doesn’t like you, she is not gonna date you. What do you even want from her?. It’s not like as if you like her” Dare said dryly.
Kofi was very unpredictable.He hated Ava but still wants to date her.
Kofi sat down . He kept quiet for a little while
“ do a background check on Ava”
Dare frowned
“ what?”
“if she doesn’t want to date me … we will make her” Kofi said darkly.
“ do we have to take it this far?” Dare asked getting tired. This reminded Dare of the Pauline incident. It was in 9
th
grade that Kofi met Pauline. Kofi called in love at first sight. He wanted Pauline to notice him, but she didn’t. she only noticed Benson, one of the seniors. That broke Kofi and he vowed to work hard to get her. And when Kofi means work hard, he meant assigning Dare to do his work.
Dare spent two months stalking and studying Pauline. What she like, her hobby, her type, her favourite movie and her family. Dare was extremely happy when Pauline transferred .
And now Kofi want him to stalk Ava. The beginning of another hell.
Kofi stared at Dare in a despairing manner
“ do I have a choice?” Kofi asked
“ I don’t trust that girl. She’s- she’s just to much” Dare said seriously.
“ I know” Kofi said quietly.
“why do you need a background check anyway? We already know Miriam isn’t her mum…use that against her” Dare said .
Kofi sighed
“ I don’t want to drag Miriam into this. I want her to be my ally … not my foe. Find something else on Ava . something hidden” Kofi said with a wicked look in his eyes.
“ okay”Dare said and left.
Kofi stood up
“ you’re gonna be mine. You have no choice.” Kofi said. And chuckled. Loudly and darkly. He stopped. He touched his cheek
“ gosh, being bad is painful…” he paused “ but I like it” he smiled and began to chuckle.
CHAPTER FOUR.
She was walking alone. She looked at her phone
“ gosh, it’s soo late” Joke said getting a little worried.
She hated walking alone. And she was afraid of the dark. But she doesn’t really have friends. No one liked her. They called her the jealous type.
Joke stopped walking when she heard something. She turned around
“ what was that?” she said with fear in her tone.
She looked around and shouted
“ is anyone there?” she sighed then turned around
“ I must have been imagining it. This is what partying cause”.
She started to walk, but she hadn’t walked far when she stopped. She turned around. She was getting apprehensive
“ anyone… anyone there” she shouted.
She turned around
“ I thought I heard…”
She couldn’t complete her statement . someone gripped her hands and uses a handkerchief to cover her mouth. Joke struggled to escape.
Jeremiah tightened his grip. Joke mustn’t escape. He tightened the handkerchief in Joke’s mouth.
Joke stopped. She fell unconscious.
Jeremiah carried Joke. He took out his phone from his pocket and dialed someone number, he placed the phone on his ear
“ it’s job well done…miss Ava” Jeremiah said darkly.
“ good, keep her locked up” Ava said and cut the call.
Jeremiah placed his phone in his pocket , adjusted Joke around his neck and left.
Femi came out . He was hiding behind a car. He looked perplexed
“ so this is who you are… Ava” Femi said piquely .

She was sitting on the chair,her legs and hands were tied to the chair.
She woke up slowly.she looked around and noticed she was in an uncompleted building. She tried to stand but couldn’t,she realized she was tied up.
She became apprehensive, she tried to scream but no one heard her, cause her mouth was covered with tape.
She struggled to escape for a while but all her effort went in vain.
The door opened, Joke looked at the entrance. She widened her eyes when she saw the person.
It was Ava.
Ava smiled darkly at Joke. She walked closer to Joke. She stopped in front of Joke and slowly and harshly removed the tape from Joke mouth.
Joke looked at Ava flummoxed
“ don’t tell me you did this” Joke paused “you f*****g bastard let me go”Joke said angrily.
Ava chuckled, quietly at first , then loudly
“ you really are bold…and stupid” Ava frowned.
Joke was getting anxious. With what she have heard about Ava. She knew she was in big trouble. She need to find a way to escape
“ help. Somebody help. Please help me. I need…”
The slap landed on Joke cheek, cutting off her statement. Joke looked at Ava with fear and surprise in her eyes
“ why are you doing this to me?”
Ava looked at Joke then smiled
“ you know too much” Ava slowly removed the smile on her face “ you are right about me. I’ve been living a fake life”
Joke smiled. she was right. Everyone needs to hear this.
“ I knew it, you are too perfect” Joke said proudly.
“ oh come on, don’t be so jealous” Ava said annoyingly.
Joke frowned. She stared at Ava
“ so are you going to let me go” Joke said uncertain.
Ava scoffed
“ let you go” she smiled.
Ava dipped her hand in her pocket and slowly brought out a knife, terrifying Joke
“ what are you planning to do?” Joke asked incredulously.
Ava turned around and walked farther away from Joke. She turned around and faced Joke
“ I’ve worked so hard to get where I am… so if anyone tries to stop me. I will take them out” Ava said threateningly and darkly.
She never wanted to do this, reveal the darker side of herself, but Joke hes pushed her too far.
Joke mouth trembled, this was her reality. Her stupid jealousy will be the one to kill her . Ava was going to kill her. And no one is going to stop her. Joke looked at Ava petrified
“wait…please…I-I promise I won’t do anything” her eyes were getting wet “ I’m sorry…I’m sorry”she said tearfully.
Ava stared at the knife then at Joke.she sighed
“ fine” Ava said.
Joke let out a sigh full of relief
“thank you soo…” Joke couldn’t continue her statement because of the gun. Ava was caressing a gun.
“ what... what’s that?” Joke said fearfully.
Ava smiled and faced Joke
“ it’s a gun. I was planning to stab you sixteen times with the knife. But . because you begged your death will be simple” she pointed the gun at Joke chest “ just a shot and you will be gone”
Joke tried to escape, she looked around then faced Ava . she started to sob
“ please… please just let me go. I promise I will never come near you… just please” Joke said sobbing.
Ava looked at Joke caringly
“ I promise it won’t hurt” Ava smiled “ this misery will soon be over”
Joke looked at the gun, terrified
“ help me. Somebody help…”.
Ava pulled the trigger. And smiled.
