(Sanai's p.o.v )
(A/N : THIS CHAPTER IS KINDA SHORT)
Thursday | 10:30 am - Broadways Library
Another day in this s**t hole, It's about time I look for another job.
"Sanai, I need you to put the returned books back In the Mystery and Suspense Section!"
I groaned a bit and had looked over at the cart of returned books
"Seriously..."
I had pushed the cart around looking for the correct section to return a couple of the books. I was lucky I didn't have to finish it all In one hour. I had made a deal with one of my co-workers that we could switch, I'd take over the check out and He'd finish putting the books away.
I had finished the first row of books and then had walked over towards my co- worker handing the cart over to him.
"Love having you around..." I chuckled while he rolled his eyes, I watched him drag the cart across the library.
"Did you hear about that weird lady that tried to sue this manager at Ross?"
"No?" I turned the chair towards another one of my co-workers. Her name was Manya, she was the one who actually let me get the job and begged the manager. instant regret.
"Wait wait... here" she pulled up a video and showed me the women arguing with the manager, her being all in his face, the crowd laughing and snickering constantly. The two of us laughed and giggled at the video trying not to burst into a loud laughter disrupting the people in the area.
"Ahem.."
I had heard a voice from the other side of the desk who seemed to be waiting.
Ruby had turned away from me and continued doing what she had to do.
"I'd like to check this book out..." the woman replied.
I looked up and had taken the book from her, but time seemed to be moving slow.
everything felt like it was in slow motion.
The woman was tall, her hair fell in her face just enough for me to catch a glimpse of her eyes, and the tattoo that ran down her hands and fingers made a striking contrast against her fair skin. She had an air of mystery about her. Her presents distracted me from what I was supposed to be doing.
I cleared my throat and nodded my head and took the book from her, I opened it to the last page and wrote the date in it then scanned it.
"The book's due May Sixteenth, if not returned, there's a fee you must pay..."
She nodded her head and grabbed a bookmark.
"Appreciate it, I'll make sure to return it then."
She walked off and headed out of sight, though I still pictured her in front of me. I leaned back in my chair and rubbed my forehead, the effect she had on me was making me question my own existence. Or maybe I was being dramatic about it.
Ruby had turned and faced me.
"Did she check the book out?" you mean did I check her out?
"I...erm...yeah" I paused, looking at the books behind me, to try and distract myself.
Finally, as the morning unfolded along with the afternoon itself the evening came around, I was called to do closing. Half of the co-workers had left already and I had to get the remaining visitors out.
Putting up the last of the books that were left out, I walked back to the cart, but I had stopped hearing all sorts of yelling and shouting coming from outside. I had peaked through the window, watching the woman from earlier and someone I didn't quite recognize arguing. Their voices were escalating, and I could see the woman's hands gesturing wildly. The woman from earlier seemed unfazed, standing tall, almost careless of what the other had to say.
I had walked outside to further investigate what was going on.
I wish I didn't.
As the woman shoved the person, I was knocked into the wall behind me. My head slammed against the wall, causing a sudden faint in my vision. My surroundings were blurry, and I wasn't sure why. I could hear muffled voices and feel a dull ache spreading through my head.
The only thing I can recall is watching them continuously argue.
Then nothing.
