(Deja's p.o.v)
Sunday | 9:30 pm - Monroe Reliance Insurance Company
I turned to look over at Seth and Dylan who were circled at the table with me, a couple of glasses of champagne and sliced strawberries centered on the table.
"I loaned Mateo some cash, he didn't have any word on Westly, he doesn't have any info on her yet, but I heard she's opening a new spot for the people in the neighborhood, it's a hike though.
I picked up the glass and swirled the liquid around in it, staring at it, I shifted my gaze back over to Seth and Dylan who were reaching for a strawberry.
"Mateo's time is limited, if he doesn't find Delina nor Westly, he doesn't pay off the "Loan" his business will be taken over..i'm guessing that was the plan you had?" I asked, bringing the glass cup up towards my lips.
Dylan shrugged his shoulders, grabbing a blunt and lighting it up. "Not precisely, but It works"
All I wanted was to confront Delina and Westly, I just wanted my car back, sure it's silly and small but it had a deeper meaning.
"Who's the daughter of Mateo?" I asked
Dylan had shifted his gaze onto me and raised a brow.
"I believe her name is Brooke, Brooke Lawson"
"Doesn't she work with him?" I asked Dyla, giving him my full attention. He shrugged.
"I don't have any information on her, or anything like that. I can definitely find that out though..."
"No no, I don't want her involved"
Seth had shifted in his chair a bit adding himself to the conversation.
"Mateo introduced me to her the evening of their celebration, she seemed hard headed and stuck up, approaching her with a skeptical manner and I could just tell something out of place wouldn't slide with her. Again I'm just assuming." Seth stated.
"Jesus you pay attention to much" Dylan remarked pushing the empty glass cup away from him.
"Especially after just seeing her, so weird..." I scrunched up my face while Seth looked at me defensively.
"Well if we're going to work together, someone has to observe..."
"Fair."
The remainder of the night did dial down with a couple of drinks, I guess I had too many of that. Dylan and Seth had helped me clean up and organize everything for the evening before heading out.
Minutes had gone by, I found myself sitting in the chair overlooking the city view. In my opinion I think it looks better at night rather than during the day. I watched the flow of a couple cars and the lights illuminating the scenery.
I turned my head around hearing a knock on the door.
"Excuse me, Deja?"
Did she actually stay late?
"Sorry for disturbing you, I thought you would've left by now"
I chuckled and nodded my head looking back out the window.
"Yeah, I thought I was here alone, It's nice to have you keep me company though"
She nodded her head and pulled up a seat.
"I did have a question though..." She replied fiddling with a pen I had left on the desk. I could see her reflection through the Window, her hair was out, her curls defining her face. The outfit she wore really made her figure stand out. She must really take "First Day Jobs" seriously.
"And what's that?" I turned around to fully face her,her appearance really distracting me now.
"What's the deal with Liv?, she's real weird and odd towards me, at least today she had been" She shrugged, continuing to play with the pen, clicking it every now and then.
I Shrugged, I didn't even know what the deal was with Liv myself. Sometimes I forget why I even hired her. Liv has always been stuck up to everyone, less to some and more harsh to others. The only time I can recall having a real conversation with her was when I first had to interview her, for training. Way before I ran the place myself. Since then I haven't really talked to her.
"To be honest, I don't really know, I wouldn't ask yourself though...I don't think she's up to talking about it, I genuinely think she's like that with newcomers." I yawned, I was beyond exhausted and all I craved was to go home and just lie down without having to worry about work or anything else. For some reason I couldn't find myself to just leave, something felt wrong, out of place, But for some reason I wanted to keep talking with Sanai.
"Oh, That's fine. I was just genuinely curious." She shot me a smile and sat the pen down.
"How's your head?" I asked with a grin on my face. Sanai rolled her eyes and scoffed at me.
"You don't get to ask me that."
"Seems like it's in good shape to me, you're speaking and what not"
"Yeah? I can also hit it too, wanna find out?" She scrunched up her face bawling her hand into a fist yelling at me in a threatening manner.
I put my hands up in surrender then had gotten up from my desk, I started packing my things together getting ready to leave.
"Heading out?" She asked to get up from her seat pushing the chair in.
"No, I'm staying in..." I snickered while she held up her fist again.
We laughed a little at each other before she started leaving. I stopped her though.
"Are you sure you don't need another ride home?"
"My personal uber? How delightful, but now I have my own ride, I appreciate the offer?"
I grabbed the rest of my things, double checking to make sure I have everything.
"Wait wait" She sat her bag down and walked up towards me. "I just forgot I saw something in your hair"
She reached up and picked out a feather that I guess I didn't notice before. I remembered the feeling of her fingers gently running through my hair. We made eye contact for a bit before she backed away and picked up her purse, clearing her throat in the process.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked walking out the office, her heels also tapping against the tiled floor. I followed after her, walking alongside her. I could smell the scent of her perfume following her as she walked.
We stopped in front of an elevator, I went and pressed the button down to the parking lot.
"I actually do have another question..."
"Hm?"
"Could we stop and get a drink? I don't actually have a ride. I took the bus here, I need to get away from the norm for one evening and I think you should too."
Completely forgetting I had already consumed alcohol earlier that day I agreed to go, it would be outside of work and I wouldn't have to worry too much about anything.
The bar wasn't as packed as I thought it would be. There were a couple people around it but it wasn't too busy. I stepped out of the car along with Sanai. The two of us walked side by side in front of the bar, It looked new and that It had recently just opened.
I grabbed the door and held it open for her, she shot me another curt smile. I followed behind her and went to find a seat, we decided to choose the barstool and take a seat there.
I ordered us two drinks to start, in the process Sanai decided to hold a small conversation.
"So, I got a chance to know Sean, He's not a bad guy really he just talks an awful lot"
"I can definitely agree on that..But no, he's not a bad person at all."
She chuckled looking off to the side.
"I don't really know much about you other than you running a company and you're very busy, In mean do you ever have time for yourself?"
I shrugged thinking about it myself. I Don't really take the time out to myself.
"Not really, I'm usually busy a lot so trying to take the freetime for myself is not something in my plans"
Sanai nodded her head, taking the drink from the bartender and taking a couple sips.
"I recommend you add that to your schedule, you need it"
I reached for my own drink and took a couple sips as well.
I looked across the bar and saw someone familiar, I couldn't really make out the face until she turned around.
I swore my whole body froze when she didn't
Ryann Wesly...?
I had no idea she was in town...
And is that Mateo...?
I had gotten up from my seat and grabbed Sanais hand.
"I enjoyed the small talk we shared, I think we should leave early–"
"Well If it isn't nice to see you..." Ryann had walke up to me wrapping her arm around my shoulder pulling me closer towards her.
"How are you doing this evening?" She turned towards Sanai, letting go of me and placing a hand on her face gently caressing her cheek.
I placed my hand on her shoulder and pulled Ryann away from Sanai.
"I think you should go back with your crew over there..."
"We have a lot of catching up to do Morris..." She smiled at me then looked over at Sanai handing her a napkin. "I'd like to get to know you" She snickered then started to walk away.
The two of us had left the place heading towards the car.
I couldn't even process what all was going on, Ryann and Mateo being together, added on with Ryann's flirtatious attitude towards Sanai, I couldn't seem to shake that part off. Sanai had leaned her head back against the seat inhaling.
We stopped in front of her house again. She looked over at me and smiled lightly.
"Even if it was a short time, I did enjoy it, thank you for agreeing to come out with me"
I couldn't help but to crack a small chuckle.
The eye contact lasted longer this time, it felt like hours, but really it was only a minute or so before she left, shutting the door behind her. I reached into my pocket and grabbed my phone Calling Dylan.
It rang a couple times before it went straight to voicemail. I tried again and got the same thing.
Odd...He usually answers right on the dot.
The fear and anxiety still lingering on me.
