Chapter Two

Zev As Alpha I have control and order over those in my pack, my orders are never overstepped. I sat in my chair fist clenched and my thick black brows almost touching. I could feel my anger surging through me, my blood heating up. I looked at my family portrait hanging on the wall just opposite me. I ran my eyes from myself to my wife and then my daughter, Ayla. I stared hard at her. “Did Ayala just walk out on me?” A question I would distrust if not that I watched her do it. “My daughter?” And I could hear my wolf growl. She couldn't understand, she wouldn't even understand if I tried to explain to her. She's young and knows nothing about politics or business or even ruling. I thought about everything, everything that summed up to me making this decision. For long Wolf's Edge had been ruled as one pack under an alpha, but centuries ago everything changed. It's a society, there must come social class distinction. The rich and the poor, the leaders and the subjects. Two families rose to power, my family the Zev Family, and the Lucian family. My great-grandfather had established a business empire dealing in mining and refining raw Emperium. Hard expensive crystals that can be used for many things in our lives. From being a power source to crafting it into an expensive table knife. And then the Lucian family became another powerhouse of our town, even owning The popular Silver Timber College. Both families ran Wolf Edge, power was under our thumbs it was only a matter of time before we had our little empires in the town which eventually resulted in the Silver Moon Pack and the Howling Valley Pack. But a decade ago, a banished outlaw Jerome Quinn returned to Wolf's Edge. His family had long been asked to leave Wolf's Edge to serve as a punishment for their involvement in betraying the pack to an enemy pack. The Black Blood Wolves. Jerome had returned because the punishment tenure had expired and their family was allowed to return to Wolf's Edge. However, his coming wasn't a piece of good news to me. He returned and chose to stay downtown where he established an empire so quickly that none of the power housing families saw that coming. Jerome created a Mafia gang which eventually gave birth to the Black Moon pack. He ran his dirty empire on powdered Wolfbane mixed with pinewood ash and some other ingredients that ended up creating some kind of powder that they call “sucks”. Wolves inhale it and get high. His hard drugs quickly ate into our system and recruited many young wolves with their addiction. His Mafia pack was growing stronger than ever, he was gaining ground fast in Wolf's Edge. I tried battling it out with him with my influence and all that, but he had already gained lots of supporters, especially from the young wolf blood who came both From my pack and Leonardo Lucain’s pack. These young bloods could rebel and start a pack war which is the last thing we would want in Wolf's Edge. Even though Lucina's family was also a powerhouse I knew my family had always been at the top of the food chain, I had to keep it that way by every means possible. I had met with Lucain to talk over the threatening rise of Jerome Quinn and he had agreed with me that uniting our family and pack was the only way we could stop this wolf. He opted for his son to become the mate of my daughter Ayla. However, we both knew that wasn't how mates are chosen but we had no choice. I agreed to his proposition and advanced to tell my daughter of my decision. However, this wasn't how I expected it to turn out. “My little girl walked out on me?” I banged my table as my thoughts came flooding, my wolf was fighting its way out then suddenly my office door swung open and my wife walked in. Ayla It was dark and cold, the air was foggy and crisp. I woke up from Emilia's warm snuggle and my eyes wandered as I surveyed the surroundings of Silver Creek. I looked at my wrist watch and the red LED light from the digital watch read 11:43 pm. I stood up from where we lay on the forest grass and watched Emilia so lost in Dreamland that she didn't notice me leaving. I wanted to walk a little. My legs were numb due to the way I had slept. I walked towards the woods wondering to myself why they made up the myth of silver Creeks being dangerous. At least the thought can sway my mind away from Daddy's issue. I had to bend a little low as I tried getting past some vines that had overgrown themselves. I tried standing up properly when I felt a little tug on my shoelaces. I pulled my leg a little but the thorn didn't leave me alone, I pulled a little harder this time and it was still the same result. I didn't want to bend over to avoid getting my hair tangled in the shrubs “Argh…” I growled a little and pulled hard this time, maybe a little too hard because suddenly the thorn let go of my shoelace, unknown to me the land behind me was downhill, I staggered and fell. Rolling on the sloppy ground heading downwards. I could feel the piercing pain going around my body as I hit different sizes of rock. I rolled for what felt like an eternity but I knew it was only a short while. A sharp pain pierced through my hips sending shock waves throughout my body. The pain was dreadful. I stood up slowly, wincing as I reached to touch my hips. I felt a cold liquid beneath my tight jeans and I hastily unbuckled my buttons to have a better look at it. I put my palm underneath my clothes and reached for where the pain was most, as I pulled out my palm, I saw it was now stained dark red with blood. It was really painful. My vision seemed to be blurry and everything around me seemed to have a shade of red. I could feel the cold red liquid pouring down covering my vision. I used my cloth to wipe off the blood on my face, I had a cut on my forehead too but I could barely feel the pain. The air suddenly felt dense, and that was when I took a look around my surroundings. It seems to be a valley or some sort of deep hole. It was darker than I knew a night could be and the air, the air was just different. I could feel it unfamiliar from any air I had ever breathed. Yes, the air in Silver Creek was different from the air you'd breathe in Wolf's Edge, but the air here had a strong scent of something I couldn't just place my finger on. Emilia and I had run through the whole Silver Creek when we were little. I had met her on her seventh birthday when I sneaked out of my house to experience some adventure. I smiled, recalling how little we were. I had caught her making out with Jeffrey, he was three years older than her and she was a year older than me. They were both surprised to see the Alpha's daughter in a location that was strictly forbidden. She had to keep my coming to Silver Creek a secret from my parents and I had to keep her making out with Jeffrey a secret from hers. We started hanging out more after that day and became closer than ever. We usually laughed and gagged about how we met and we made Silver Creek our secret meeting spot. We made Silver Creek our little adventure zone, we played hide and seek, climbed trees, and did a whole lot of exploring the forest. All these were ten years ago and now we were here twenty -one and she twenty-one and all those while I have never come across this part of Silver Creek. Dark and spooky, with this air and short shrubs with thorns in place of leaves. It was very foggy and I could feel that… A shadow passed me just as fast as it appeared. I cou ld feel it, I wasn't alone.
