Chapter Four

Ayla Blood was now gushing more from my forehead wound and though my vision was now vague I could have sworn I saw the wolf smile. “Who I am shouldn't matter to a dead cub who chooses to wander far from home. Your father shouldn't be alpha, he isn't worth it and I shall make him regret being there” His claws pierced my neck as he grabbed me, raising me to stare straight into his eyes. All I could see was death, and I couldn't even flinch. I was twenty and still couldn't turn into my wolf. So disheartening. “Now little Zev cub, you die!” I closed my eyes, finally accepting my fate and my last words came out. “Dad…” All of a sudden, I heard a loud growl and I fell to the ground with a thud. I tried to open my eyes but I was too weak. I could hear growling and slashing, it was two wolves fighting. I fought my eyes open and was taken back by surprise at the scene before me. A big black wolf stood tall with its back to me. I crept on the floor, moving slightly away from the action zone and leaning against a huge boulder. The black wolf hit that strange brown wolf in its abdomen, sending it crashing into nearby trees. He looked to have received an enormous amount of beating already. Slowly he turned back into the man who almost killed me, he coughed blood and struggled to stand using the broken trees as support. He stood up facing the wolf that had attacked him, his pupil bouncing around with fury and his hand balled into a fist. “You are making a mistake I assure you” Then he made his way into the woods, staggering and wincing from the injuries he had gotten. The big black wolf just watched him walk off. He didn't attack again… I thought to myself. Then he turned his vision to me, cutting my thoughts. His eyes were red, blood-red like the one who attacked me. He growled exposing his sharp canines. I just watched from where I rested on the rock. “Would you kill me now?” I blindly asked, honestly not minding whatever would happen now. It took a step towards me growling and looking bloodthirsty, then suddenly it looked up, just above him, another wolf emerged, mid-air leaping towards us. Emilia I had picked up another scent, which made it the second male scent I picked. And this scent pierced harder than the first. I kept running, I was close, and I could feel the aura around me. I kept running, I was heading right to a jump, it was a boulder and the scent was just below. As I approached the edge, I turned into my wolf, taking my leap, I was ready for whoever would want to hurt my bestie. I landed in front of a wolf, a big black wolf with a dominating aura. Yes! This was the second scent I picked up. My eyes quickly searched for the first one but couldn't find it. I returned my attention quickly to the present situation, I growled and hissed loudly at the wolf before me. I knew Ayla was right behind me, I could sense how weak she was and I was not letting this beast get any closer. I bared my teeth and exposed my claws hoping I looked scary enough even though I could feel I was no match for him. The wolf was surprisingly calm and watched me without any movement of attack. He slowly growled at me and then took a step backward Was he retreating or was he getting himself in a good position to attack? Whatever… I took my stance, expecting the worst but he took another step back and another and another disappearing into the shadows of the trees. I watched where he had gone through for some time waiting to see if he would re-enter fully charged at me but didn't see anything. Ayla's wincing and groaning brought my attention back to her. I quickly picked her up with my teeth and flung her on my back. “Hold on baby we're heading out of here” I said, hoping we would make it out of Silver Creek before she passed out from losing too much blood. Ayala Watching my bestie prepare to fight for me, even I could tell she stood no chance against her opponent but that was Emilia for you, never giving up. I couldn't tell her to stop. I didn't know who he was or why he saved me or did he? What were his intentions and who were those? I have never seen those kinds of red eyes on a wolf. The thought of fear and mystery bothered me. I laid still on Emilia's fur as she slowed down entering our front porch and giving a low howl. I had lost lots of blood and I knew I was passing out, I could hear voices around me and I could see faces. They were all blurry, Mister kettles, Mum, Dad, and even Mrs. Barcon our neighbors. It was getting dark, I could feel someone carrying me in his arms running, that was the last thing I recalled. Matthew I sat still in the departure lounge, waiting for a call from my pilot. Adorned in my white tuxedo and gold-framed sunglasses. I ran my hands through my blond hair and wondered what was so important that Father had to call me from my business trip. I was having a good time at Eerie Vale and running the family business smoothly. As I recalled the urgency in his usually calm and confident voice, I wondered what could have pushed him to his edge. “Good morning Master Matthew and sorry to keep you waiting, we had experienced a slight delay right before take off but we are here now and….” I stood up, slamming the magazine I was holding on the seat. “Load up my luggage and stop the flimsy excuses, Isadore” I hated it when people tried to give me excuses for their shortcomings. “Yes master” I walked out of the glass shade I had been staying under and allowed the sunlight to pour its rays on me “It's a beautiful day Isadore” I said, walking slowly towards the jet with my arms behind my back. “Yes it is master” Isadore my ever humble and loyal servant replied. I moved up the steps and into the jet, I took my seat and placed my laptop in front of me admiring the beautiful white interior and gold-plated edges of my jet. The jet gave me a feeling of comfort and I had to remind myself that all these are mine. The smell of white cushions and rose petals scattered on a few surfaces made me smile. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and wondered why my eyes were crystal green like Mum's and not deep black like Dad's. I once again ran my hands through my rough blond hair, my attention was caught by my rosy lips licking the bottom. I looked too good to be twenty-two then a smile curved up my face. The speaker crackles; “Sir, this is your captain speaking. We are now ready for departure. Please make sure your seatbelts are fastened and your seats are in their upright position. The flight attendant will be coming around to do a final safety check, and then we'll be on our way.” I was leaving the ground soon, flights usually made me feel nervous but I had no choice. I was returning to Wolf's Edge and I wonder what might have changed after eight years. I wonder if the old pack was still there. I stared aimlessly at my laptop screen smiling at nothing. As the plane begins to move down the runway, the roar of the engines fills the air. The vibrations of the plane began to grow as it picked up speed. The landscape outside the window starts to blur as the plane gains momentum. Then, with a powerful surge, the plane lifts off the ground and begins its ascent into the sky. The world below looked small and insignificant, while the sky was vast and open. It's a feeling of freedom and possibility, as the plane takes flight. And then I wondered. What was the urgency in his voice for? What would Wolf's Edge be li ke now? Well, those questions are going to be answered soon, Wolf's Edge, here I come.
