Chapter Ten
The silence in the room didn’t feel normal
It felt heavy
Like everyone was waiting for something to happen
And somehow… they were all looking at me
Not like before
Not like a patient
Not like someone weak
Something else
Something they didn’t understand
My chest rose slowly as I sat there, the strange strength still running through my body
Not painful anymore
Just… there
Alive
I looked at my hands again
They didn’t feel like mine
Not fully
“What do you mean I changed?” I asked, my voice quieter now but steady
No one answered immediately
The doctor was the first to move
Slowly
Carefully
Like I might do something
“That reaction… it’s not normal,” he said, his eyes still fixed on me “Your body stabilized too fast”
“That’s supposed to be a good thing, right?”
He didn’t respond
That told me everything
I turned my head slightly to Ethan
“You knew this could happen?”
He didn’t deny it
But he didn’t fully agree either
“We knew there were risks,” he said
“Risks?” I let out a small laugh “You call this a risk?”
My voice echoed slightly in the room
Something about it sounded different
Stronger
Even I could hear it
Adrian noticed too
His gaze sharpened
“Lena… how do you feel?”
I paused
That was a good question
Because the truth was… I didn’t feel weak anymore
I didn’t feel scared the same way
Something had shifted
“I feel…” I hesitated
Then said it
“Fine”
The word hung in the air
Wrong
Very wrong
The doctor shook his head slightly
“That’s not possible after what just happened”
“But it’s true,” I replied
I slowly moved my wrist again
The strap holding me in place tightened
Then
It snapped
A sharp sound filled the room
Everyone froze
Including me
I stared at my hand
At the broken restraint
My heart skipped
“I didn’t…” I whispered
I didn’t even try hard
That wasn’t normal
“That shouldn’t break that easily,” the doctor muttered
“It didn’t,” Adrian said quietly
All eyes shifted to me again
That feeling returned
That energy
Stronger now
Restless
“What did you do to me…” I said, this time not as a question but as something closer to fear
No one answered
Then Ethan stepped forward slowly
“Stay calm,” he said
“Don’t tell me to stay calm,” I snapped, pulling my other hand free easily now
The second strap broke too
Like it was nothing
The sound echoed louder this time
The doctor stepped back immediately
“She’s getting unstable again”
“I’m not unstable,” I said quickly
But even as I said it, something inside me disagreed
My heartbeat was faster again
Not weak
Powerful
Too powerful
“Lena,” Adrian said carefully “you need to breathe
“I am breathing”
“No,” he shook his head slightly “you’re reacting”
Reacting
To what
I pushed myself up slowly from the bed
My legs touched the floor
And for a second, I expected to fall
But I didn’t
I stood
Perfectly steady
Too steady
The room spun slightly, then stopped
Everything felt sharper
Clearer
I could hear things I didn’t notice before
The machine
Their breathing
Even the slight movement of fabric
“What is happening…” I whispered
Ethan’s gaze didn’t leave me
“You need to sit down”
“I’m not sitting down,” I replied
Something in my tone made even me pause
That wasn’t how I usually sounded
But I didn’t have time to think about it
Because suddenly
The lights flickered
Once
Twice
Then went out
Darkness filled the room instantly
Someone cursed
“What now?”
Emergency lights came on seconds later
Dim
Red
Everything looked different
Dangerous
The doctor rushed toward the door
“We need to secure this floor”
But before he could reach it
The door burst open
Loud
Violent
Several men rushed in
Armed
Not like before
Different
More aggressive
More serious
My heart jumped
“Who are they?” I asked
Adrian’s expression darkened immediately
“They’re not ours”
That was not good
At all
One of the men stepped forward
Tall
Rough
Cold eyes
His gaze landed on me instantly
“There she is,” he said
My stomach dropped
They came for me
Again
Ethan moved slightly in front of me this time
Protective
But not enough to make me feel safe
“You shouldn’t be here,” he said
The man smirked
“You know why we’re here, Ethan”
Silence
Tense
Sharp
“Step aside,” the man continued “This doesn’t need to get messy”
My chest tightened
“What do they want from me?” I whispered
Adrian didn’t answer immediately
Then
“The same thing as before”
My heart skipped
“Which is?”
He looked at me
Serious
“They want what’s inside you”
The words hit hard
Too hard
I stepped back slightly
“No…”
The man laughed softly
“Looks like she doesn’t know yet”
That didn’t help
Not at all
“What’s inside me?” I demanded
But no one answered
Instead, the man raised his hand slightly
And the others behind him lifted their weapons
The tension snapped instantly
“Last chance,” he said calmly
Ethan didn’t move
Neither did Adrian
My heart pounded harder
Faster
That energy inside me rising again
Strong
Uncontrolled
Then the man said something that changed everything
“Bring her alive,” he ordered
Alive
Not dead
That meant they needed me
Badly
My breathing became uneven again
The air around me felt… strange
Heavy
Like it was responding
The lights flickered again
Stronger this time
Everyone noticed
“What the” one of the men muttered
I didn’t understand it
But I felt it
That energy
Building
Growing
And for the first time…
It didn’t feel like fear
It felt like something else
Something dangerous
Adrian’s voice came low beside me
“Lena… whatever you’re feeling… don’t lose control”
But it was already happening
The lights burst suddenly
Glass shattered
A loud c***k echoed through the room
Everyone flinched
Including me
My chest rose sharply
“What did I just do…”
No one answered
Because they were all staring at me again
Not confused this time
Not curious
Afraid
And then the man in front smiled slowly
Not scared at all
Interested
“Now I see why you kept her alive, Ethan,” he said
My heart pounded
“What is he talking about?”
But Ethan
didn’t respond
His eyes were still on me
Careful
Measuring
Then he said quietly
“She’s not ready for this”
The man chuckled
“Oh… but she is”
A pause
Then his gaze locked onto mine
Sharp
Intense
And his next words made everything worse
“Because Lena…”
My breath caught
“You’re not the only one they changed”
