Chapter 2

Camilla got home a tad bit later, she had to pick up her brother Kevin from school. Kevin was 11 years old and he could go home by himself but Camilla had to pass through his school before getting home, so she always waited for him.

“Camilla, I want to go with you to work, I don’t want to stay home alone today” Kevin said, Their mum was a nurse and she had already informed them that she would be coming home late.

“Ok, but you have to promise to be on your best behavior, no running around MR Richard's office, the last time you broke his glasses” she warned

“I promise I will and MR Richard even promised me he would let me sample the burgers first” he rubbed his palm together.

MR Richard was experimenting with a burger and if it tasted good, it would be added on the menu as Hamburger deluxe.

Camilla made noodles and they had their lunch quietly.

“Cam, take table five's order” Mercy a coworker yelled

“Good day, Gentlemen can I take your order? ” Camilla asked and held her pad and pen ready to scribble down whatever he said, she raised her head to look at them fully and she came face to face with the finest specimen of God's creation. He looked like he stepped out a fashion magazine with the nose ring he had, he looked sexy like those characters you only ever dreamed about. His broad chest could accommodate her if she decided to fall over in his arms. How would they fell wrapped around her. She was staring at him unabashedly, her crush for Joel long forgotten. Bridle those thoughts Miss Camilla Michael Her subconscious chided her. She couldn’t help but stare at him, he looked like a black American, she had seen many of them in movies. He was perfect she thought

“You look good but you are not my type, so take our order and get to work” She snapped back to reality, “I’m sorry, may I take your order”

“Two hamburgers and two Iced tea” he said

“Ok” she answered, even his accent was divine. Just marry me she thought

She came back with their order and set it down in front of them and left hurriedly. From a corner she could see him in a deep conversation with the other person he came with. They settled their bill and left. She kept daydreaming about him when Mercy came to sit in front of her.

“Senorita Camilla” Mercy snapped her fingers in her face

“What is it” Camilla replied somewhat annoyed that interrupted her thoughts

“You think I didn’t see you staring at that cutie patootie” Mercy replied feigning indifference to her annoyance

“I wasn’t staring” Camilla felt shy all of a sudden

“You sure were” Mercy smirked

“I wasn’t"

“I wasn’t"

“You were”

“Oh this is so childish, so what if I was staring” Camilla asked

“Nothing, I just wanted you to admit it” Mercy smiled knowingly.

Mercy kept teasing Camilla about how she thought she was immune to handsome guys, Camilla even mentioned about the FEP in her school. They chatted on and on about boys and blog gossips. MR Richard came to join them, he wanted to drink something when Camilla started telling him about Audrey who was coming in and he promised an opening for her.

The national anthem could be heard from outside Bonville high school. The enthusiasm of the students was surprising as if they knew the principal had a special announcement to make. After the national pledge an inspection was carried out to make sure they were all properly dresses. The boys were to be in their black trousers, white shirt and black tie, while the girls were to be in white shirt, black flair skirt and a black tie. They weren’t really strict on hairstyles and footwear.

The principal announced the new foreign exchange student. The gasp and mutterings wasn’t missed when the new student was brought out. “Evans Landon” the principal had announced his name and the class he was in. Camilla was shocked when she saw that it was the sexy Adonis at the restaurant the previous day. So they were going to be class mate she smiled inwardly, well things just got better. “Isn’t he hot Cam” Audrey shook Camilla in awe.

“Nothing I haven’t seen before” Camilla dismissed

“Are you bonkers, where have you seen this perfect specimen before? Just look at him, my dream guy standing in front of me” Audrey drooled

The principal also mentioned the Best student award ceremony which was going to hold at the end of the term. The criteria was that each student maintained excellence in morals as well as academics. With that the assembly was dismissed.

“Sit with me Evans” a girl said

“No sit with me, she has a terrible mouth odour” another girl said

Evans smiled and said “let me choose where I’ll sit ladies, If you don’t mind” He was loving the attention he was getting. Way to boost a man’s ego. Evans choose to sit beside a guy whose name was Peter. They exchanged pleasantries and the teacher walked in.

Mr Huxley, the physics teacher wrote on the board “Projectiles”

“Anyone can define the above” he asked generally

Audrey raised her hand and defined it.

“Thanks Audrey” the teacher said and went on to explain the topic further. He dictated the note to them and lastly inquired about Evans adaptability to his new school and classmates before leaving the class. Two more periods went by and Klaus went out to ring the bell.

Peter showed Evans around the classes and acclimated him with the Who's who and who’s not. Tania and her clique passed by and Tania winked at Evans.

“That is Tania” Peter pointed out to Evans ‘She is the official queen bee and her minions, Sarah and Blessing, best you stay away from them, It was Joel they set their eyes on before, now it’s going to be you”

Peter pointed at a Muslim girl “That’s Hafeezah, also known as Feezah or Feezah with the sizzle. She is the official CEO of feezah with the sizzle, she writes about the school gossip and pastes them on the notice board.”

“Does she have a permit to do that” Evan asked curiously

“Yes of course, if feezah says it’s so then it is. She is like a hard headed reporter with a nose for news. She keeps tabs on all happenings and juicy gossips. Once two student had s*x in class back then in SSS2, feezah had it covered and even interviewed them separately before they were expelled and a corner of her article always features Icons of the week, A girl named Camilla always make that list”. Evans nodded

“Over there is Joel and his teammates, footballers association and over there is Mary the pianist, down to the left is Ike and Co., future comedians” Peter went on and about everyone who was popular “and lastly the most beautiful girl, Audrey, every guy is vying for her attention including me and beside her is her bestie Camilla, the girl I mentioned earlier”.

“Let us go say Hi to them” Peter urged

“Lead the way” Evans smiled. He had other agenda, and he had also noticed Audrey while they were in class and it seems she was a smart student and very beautiful at that. Beauty with brains—a deadly combo. Her friend Camilla was the waitress gawking at him the previous day at the restaurant. She really didn’t seem smart to him, but Peter had said she always made the list of Icons of the week.

“Hi ladies” Peter greeted and he sat down beside Camilla while Evans sat down beside Audrey. They introduced each other and began talking like long lost friends. Joel came to sit with them too. They were all having their lunch together, Joel openly complimenting Audrey and she blushed a little, Peter did the same and Evans topped it up with a pick up line. They all took turns teasing her. Then Evans caressed her hands on the table, “you have nice hands” Audrey was loving the attention she was getting from Evans especially. They all kept conversing with Audrey that they all forgot Camilla. Camilla gently excused herself and left for class. She couldn’t stand the energy around Audrey, and the guys just kept talking about Audrey that they forgot she was sitting there. Evans was already turning up the charm and flirting with Audrey and worse still he pretended they never met at the restaurant.

Break was soon over and Audrey came into the class along side Peter and Evans.

“Camilla why didn’t you wait for us” Audrey sat down wiping her face with her handkerchief

“oh, I didn’t want to butt in and disrupt your conversation “ since it was about you Camilla wanted to add

“Ok, but you missed a while lot, I agreed to teach Evans Yoruba language and I found out he lives across my house” Audrey said excitedly

“Really” Camilla feigned interest

“Yeah, and we will now catch the bus home together and he even promised to drop by at ‘Just Ricky' for a meal or two”

“But I didn’t say if you got the job or not” Camilla raised an eyebrow

“I thought you already put in a good word for me with your boss” Audrey's face fell. Camilla felt bad, she was jealous of her friend over a boy “sorry just kidding, I was going to inform you that my boss has asked you to come today”

“Thanks, and my parents even conceded to it”

“Congrats” Camilla felt a little relieved

Mr Richard gave Audrey the job which made her so ecstatic and true to her words she called everyone Hun. Evans dropped by like he promised and as usual Camilla couldn’t stop staring but he was too focused on Audrey.

“Isn't that the handsome Hun from yesterday” Mercy walked by Camilla to prepare a customer’s order. Audrey's slang was already rubbing off on her.

“Yeah, and he goes to my school” Camilla rolled her eyes

“OMG!!!” Camilla had to cover Mercy's mouth

“No good fellow that he is, instead of trying to make a good impression, he is busy flirting with all the girls” Camilla couldn’t control her annoyance

“Maybe you wished it was you instead of pretty girl over there” she pointed to Audrey who was waiting Evans table

“I'm not jealous if that’s what you are implying”

Evans left the restaurant with thoughts of Audrey and Camilla on his mind. Audrey was the perfect girl, smart, beautiful, funny and on the other hand was Camilla, though she wasn’t attractive but she was beautiful none the less. The type of beauty you wouldn’t notice at a glance but. She had left the table at lunch while they were at school and it made him curious to know why she left. Well Audrey was the one who consumed him the most, he had been trying to flirt with her at lunch and at the restaurant but it seemed like she was holding back, maybe because of Joel. He had noticed how Joel seemed to be all over her, staring at her and hanging on to every word she said. Joel is the competition but he couldn’t just let Audrey slide past his hands. “I'm Evans Landon” he muttered to himself. “And I never give up”
