"I don’t want your protection!" A small smile appeared again. "That’s not your choiceLian stepped back, trying to put distance between herself and him. "I told you… I don’t want your help!" Kael looked at her calmly, as if her words meant nothing at all. "Yet… you’re still here." She clenched her fists in frustration. "You kidnapped me! That’s what this is!" He took one slow step closer… just one. But it was enough to make her heart jump. "If you were truly kidnapped…" He paused briefly, then leaned slightly toward her. "You’d be screaming a lot louder." She froze. Because… he was right. The door wasn’t locked. No one was stopping her. So why… hadn’t she run? Seeing her silence, he gave a faint smile. "Finally… you’re starting to think." She glared at him. "You’re lying to me." "No." His answer was immediate. "I’m trying to keep you alive." A Different Kind of Truth "What do you mean?" Her voice was quieter now. Kael sat on the edge of the bed, as if deciding whether to reveal something. "The men who were chasing you… won’t stop." Her breath hitched. "So… they want to kill me?" "Not exactly." He looked at her directly. "They want what you saw." Her mind flashed back. That night… The deal. The blood. The man who fell without a sound. Her hands trembled. "I didn’t mean to see it…" "But you did." His voice was cold again. An Unwanted Protection "So what do you want from me?" She asked softly. Kael answered instantly. "Stay here." "Impossible!" He stood up suddenly, making her flinch. "Or leave." He gestured toward the door. She looked at it… then back at him. "But when they find you…" He stepped closer, his voice lowering. "I won’t be there to save you again." Silence fell. She understood now. There was no real choice. A Strange Moment "Why are you helping me anyway?" The question slipped out before she could stop it. Kael paused for a moment. Then answered simply: "Because you’re my problem now." She frowned. "That’s not a reason!" He stepped closer again. "Or would you prefer another reason?" Her breath caught. Their distance was too small now. Too close. "I don’t like losing what belongs to me." Her eyes widened. "I’m not—" But suddenly— The door burst open. A man rushed inside. "Kael! They found us!"Two: Invisible Chains Lian stepped back, trying to put distance between herself and him. "I told you… I don’t want your help!"
