Chapter Five: The Whispers of Affection

Emmanuel smiled at the revelation of it. He knew that something was going on since Jonathan had been asking about her.

Emmanuel smiled, "So, are you two now living together or how do you two come across each other, it's obvious to me that you spent the night together"

"No, I was lucky to spend the night with her, I love her, I think I love her and I would love to marry her"

"Whoa! She's a smart lady, hardworking and brave, I never know you could love again after you broke up with Sarah Collins"

"Sarah Collins? That girl? I pity her husband"

"So did you tell Maya about your feelings"

"Well, I think I told her the way I can"

"So how did you start, can you give me a little" Emmanuel said, going closer to his boss.

"I asked her yesterday if we could go out for dinner and she accepted my offer. I am too cute to be rejected, who would reject this handsome young man?" Jonathan said. He stood up and checked himself in the mirror.

Emmanuel nodded, "That's truth, well, there's a lady I am also crushing on, I think I can try that, I'll approach her and asked her if we could go for dinner"

The two men laughed. "That's a good step" Jonathan added, "You need to take things slowly, don't rush things at all"

"Yes, I won't"

"Alright, let's get to today's work"

The staff are murmuring about them already. They were all suspecting that something was going on.

Maya was feeling shy, she didn't know how to react to it. It was Jonathan's idea that they come together to work, just as if she knew this would happen.

The murmurs around the office were hard to ignore, and Maya could feel her cheeks flush with embarrassment. Everyone seemed to be speculating about her and Jonathan's joint arrival, and she wasn't sure how to react.

As the whispers grew louder, Maya could feel her discomfort mounting. She tried to focus on her work, but the constant murmurs were distracting, and she couldn't help but feel as though she was being scrutinized by every pair of eyes in the office.

Maya wanted to step out to go to Jonathan's office, to ask him how she should deal with the situation, when she decided to chat him up. She took her phone to chat her up and noticed that someone captured them from the last night walk, when she saw the pictures, her mouth was wide opened "Ahhh"

Bloggers already captured the pictures with "The CEO of LF have found a new lover"

"A new lover? Does he have an old lover, someone at that age, why won't he have an ex" she thought.

"But how do I deal with this situation, I am still thinking of how to deal with my colleague here, people who disliked me without even doing anything for them, now how would they feel, they would all think I am in a relationship with their boss"

Just as Maya is thinking, Emmanuel comes in.

"Good Morning miss Maya, how was your night?" Emmanuel asked.

Maya was finding it hard to talk, she thought he came to bully her. "Hmm, it wasn't what you all think, I am not in a relationship with him, yesterday night was a coincidence, though we met, but it was not all what you people thought"

Emmanuel smiled, "What exactly is it, I had love to know"

"We met yesterday, and we talked and we...."

"And you..." , he said and continued, "Well, I am happy for you, my boss hardly love woman, he hardly fall in love, but when he does

Taken aback by his response, Maya wondered if she had misjudged Emmanuel. As she considered his words, she couldn't help but feel both flattered and uneasy, uncertain of how to navigate the increasingly complicated dynamics at work.

"What do you mean? I don't understand, why are you congratulating me?"

"When I got to work, I asked my boss about the relationship you two had, he hardly keeps things from me, so he made me know that he had fallen in love with you, Miss Maya, you are lucky, my boss is nice, caring and mind, I am happy for you, Maya, and congratulations"

A mixture of excitement and anxiety welled up inside her. She had no idea that Jonathan felt this way for her, she was thinking he was a play guy, someone she once had a one night stand with, who does that if not for a playboy?

"Thank you Emmanuel, thank you for your kind words and for being sincere, but I don't know how to handle this situation, now it's all over the media that we are in a relationship when we are not even yet, and the staffs here, our colleagues, I don't like the way they look at me, when I was coming today with him, they were...."

"I understand you, but you don't need to be bother about them, they are only jealous and it has vet nothing to do with you, let them continue, it's their choice"

"But I don't think this is right, we aren't in a relationship yet, and all because of him I can't let people start murmuring about me"

"Then why not call a dinner yourself, then you two can talk about your feelings, you two aren't a kid"
