David went up to the roof to leave Sandra alone like she asked, but David actually came up there to think of how to explain his pain in the memories he has, but who cares?
David: I came up to give you space but also to think of how I’ve been to my family, especially my sister.
Sandra: Why do you guys always argue with each other? It just doesn’t seem that you guys get along very well at all.
When Sandra said that Mandy and David don’t get along very well, she was right and David knew that he was the worst brother ever, but David does love his sister even if she is annoying to have as a sister.
David: Mandy and I have always shared different opinions about the family, but you are right about one thing: that we don’t get along very well.
Sandra: She is your sister. You don’t always have to be nice, but you should try to understand where she is coming from.
Sandra makes a good point, but it just doesn’t work that way in David's family. Mandy has done everything their grandpa wants, but not David. David liked the way his life was.
After Sanda said he should try to see stuff from Mandy’s point of view, David got lost in thought, and had not said a word in a good five minutes.
David: Why did you follow me up here when you said to leave you alone?
Sandra: You forgot to put on a coat, and I was curious about why you were coming up here, but the lights in the city on a snowy night are beautiful to see.
After Sandra said that, she just stared at all the Christmas lights that were turned on right on time like always, but Sandra couldn’t help but feel like she was being watched, so Sandra looked over and there was David staring at her.
Sandra:Why are you staring at me like that? It is kind of strange, so will you please stop and say something, because if you don’t, I will slap you.
Sandra just stared at the city lights turning on and looked so calm, but David really wanted to know the real reason why she came up here after him.
David: So why did you really come up here to the rooftop? I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.
Sandra: Fine, I’ll tell you, but you have to go first, and I have to tell you the actual reason why you came here.
David: Okay, the actual reason why I came up here is to just be relaxed and be honest with myself about why my family wants me to do everything they say I should do this business. I started without any support from them. Why I don’t listen is beyond me.
Sandra: I think I know why you don’t listen to your family and what they want you to do, but life is not fun when your family tries to control your life, and it's not your own.
David never knew that Sandra had a lot of wise words of wisdom in her. Why would David know he had never asked her for any advice in the whole time she had worked for him?
David: I told you why I came up here. Now it’s your turn to tell me the real reason why you went up to the rooftop.
Sandra wasn’t great at sharing things about her with other people, but David shared something with her, so it’s only fair to share one reason Sandra came up here.
Sandra: Uh, my mom has been constantly for years trying to control what I do, like you. "I never wanted to listen to her, so when I went to college for business, my mom hated me and I haven’t been back home since, but that’s not why I don’t go home. " I have just been for years trying to figure out why she didn’t want me to go to college.
David: Maybe she was scared something would happen to you while you were away from her, but to me, it sounds like we both have controlling families. There is always a bright side to what you have now.
Sandra: And what’s that bright side to what I know?
David: Well, you managed to prove to your mom that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
When David said that Sandra had proved my mom wrong, she felt much better about what she had accomplished in my life.
