Later, Dedrick and Mandy dropped the boys off and when they both got to the site it was horrific. Most of the building was under a big pile of snow. Mandy started to cry and people turned and looked at them, but Dedrick was there for Mandy.
Dedrick: Haven’t you ever seen somebody cry before, and you would cry too if you knew that your family was stuck inside a collapsed building, wouldn’t you?
They all turned away and left me alone, but one came up to us.
Worker:”Miss. Torres, I worked for your brother, and I’m positive that he will be OK and so will Sandra. How she was able to keep your Mr. Tatura. Inline was surprising because he would never listen to anyone else. I think he has a soft spot for Sandra, but you didn’t hear that from me.
Mandy started to feel better after she heard that, and was happy that David had someone to keep him in line even if David was her boss.
Mandy:Thank you for that. It meant a lot to you to say that to me.
Worker: You’re welcome to miss Torres. It was my pleasure to meet you for the first time.
Terry:”Miss. Torres, I have good news and bad news for you.
Dedrick: Terry, what are you doing here? I thought you were busy with something that was important for you to do.
Terry: That’s what I was going to tell you. There is still cell phone service in the building because, before the building collapsed, Mr. Tatura called me and asked me to go take care of Sandra's dogs, Luna and Leo, for her while they were stuck in their home, but the bad news is that now the cell phone service is out, but the air conditioning still works, so I had to go and tell the boy's hi for me.
David and Sandra were sitting down under a desk, but then the floor started shaking, and it fell down from under Sandra. But she got caught by David.
Sandra: Don’t let go of me, please, I don’t want to die in this building under a lot of snow. Please don’t let go.
David looked at Sandra in the eyes and looked scared that he was going to lose grip and drop her and Sandra would fall down onto the ground and either die or fall unconscious and break something.
David:I don’t know how long I will be able to hold you for, but I’ll try as long as I can to pull you up. Just hold on to me.
Sandra: I’m going to die right now. You know that you won’t be able to hold on to me, so if I let go, tell my mom, if you don’t get to the bottom in time, that I didn’t lie about what happened and that I’m sorry I’m a disappointment to her.
Sandra was not going to die as long as David was around, because if she went, then David would have to live with the site of her falling down.
David: You are not going to die in this building under snow. If you let go, we will both fall, so hang in there with me? Will you, plus you never told me why you didn’t go home on Christmas?
David and Sandra both just laughed, and David slowly pulled her up to him, but the floor under David turned to the slide, and they both went down like they were on a roller coaster.
Sandra: DAVID LUIS TATURA, don’t you dare let go. If you do, I will haunt you.
David:I won’t let go, OK.
" Mandy heard a loud crash in the building and ran to see what it was, and it looked like the floor was moving and giving way from underneath the furniture.
Mandy:Dedrick, what if they were on the ground when it gave way? "What do I tell my parents I’m scared? " Dedrick, what do we do?
Dedrick: We need to dig our way into the building through the snow and ice. Everyone, I need your help to get them out. All who can help will be fine.
Mandy looked around to find everybody there was getting shovels to dig through the snow and ice to get them both out.
Mandy:Dedrick, how long do you think it’s going to take for you to get there?
Dedrick: If we continue at this rate, probably take Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, probably. I don’t know, but we will get them. I promise you that.
After that promise was made, there was more crashing in the building, which was just too much to handle alone. Mandy needed her parents and kids to be with her at that moment.
