Chapter 1

I sat straight up in bed, sweat covered my face and neck from the nightmare the night before. I groaned and threw the warm quilt my mother had made for me on the other side of my king sized bed and walked to the bathroom. I grabbed my toothbrush and started brushing my teeth, once I was done I rinsed my mouth out and looked at myself in the mirror. I had been told my whole life that I was a beautiful Queen to be but I never seen what they saw. All I seen was my reflections golden eyes staring lifelessly back at me, my raven colored hair sticking up in all directions indicating a night filled with tossing and turning. There were dark circles under my eyes from lack of peaceful sleep. My lips looked like they were beginning to get chapped, and then there was my body. Ugh, I was very curvy. My sister and cousin hell, even my friends and mother are slender and their curves aren't as pronounced as mine. Dresses had to be tailor made to fit, whereas my mother and sister could just order a dress and they never had to ask for their sizes because the dresses would fit and look gorgeous. A knocking on the door pulled me from my thoughts as I walked over to my bedroom door and unlocked it. " Come in." I said dryly. I didn't even have to look to know it was my sister Leila. She always smelled of jasmine and vanilla. " Well good morning to you to miss grouchy." She laughed as I glared at her. She was a little shorter than my 5'3 frame, she was about 4'11 with big bright blue eyes and beautiful dark brown hair that had been perfectly curled into ringlets down her back. She was very slender but curvy in all the places that counted. " And it isn't a good morning Leila, I had the dream again. I might need your help covering these dark circles. Mother deals with enough without me adding more stress." I told her walking into the large bathroom turning the shower on and stepping in. " Well mother would rather deal with the stress then to watch you punish yourself for something you had no control over." I heard her say as she sat down on the vanity chair in the corner. I rinsed the conditioner out of my hair and the soap off my body and reached for the towel hanging up on the towel rack. Wrapping it around me, I stepped out of the shower and walked past her to my large walk in closet. " I'm not punishing myself. Had I been trained to treat silver to the heart earlier father would still be alive." I said sadly, combing through the multiple dresses hanging up in my closet. " Wear the black one with the sequins, you know you are going with mother to visit the other packs in the kingdom today. Keep your head clear, you may find your mate today. Oh and please actually put a pair of heels on today, you need to look presentable as the future Queen." She said laughing. She knew me well, I've never been the one to wear heels. If I had my way everyone would walk around without shoes. " Ugh I guess. You know what, I'm going to sit down and curl my hair and you can just pick my entire outfit out. Make sure you pick a crown to match. I don't want mother to scold me again for not wearing my crowns." I told her as I walked back to the bathroom and plugged my curler in. I smiled when I heard the shoes being thrown around my closet. Knowing her I was going to look more like a model than a Queen to be. I was curling the last piece of hair when she walked in smiling. " Sounds like the maids are not going to like what you did to my closet." I said, looking at her through the mirror. She shrugged and laughed. Shaking my head I turned around in the chair and closed my eyes knowing she wasn't letting me out of the castle until she was done with my makeup. " There! You look fabulous, if I do say so myself. Now let's get you in that dress and laced up." Leila said turning on her heel walking back to my couch where she had draped my dress across the arm. The heels she picked out were going to make me about 5 inches taller, and she had picked a golden crown with many diamonds on it. I shook my head knowing that today was going to be a very long day. " Damn Leila, do you think this dress it tight enough? Mother is not going to like it hugging my figure this much. Especially with me unmated, she's not going to let me out of her sight now." I growled, knowing mother told me to make sure I looked presentable, like a Queen to be not some unmated shewolf wanting attention. " Oh please, you look amazing and if she says anything then I will tell her you can't help that wolves don't have any manners!" Leila said shrugging. Her and mother were always arguing when it came to me. Mother wanted me to be more conservative and Leila wanted me to ' flaunt ' what I was given by the Moon Goddess. " Ugh I guess it's now or never." I said as I stood up and looked at myself in the full length mirror on the wall next to my closet door. Leila has done it again. My eyes stood out against the smoky eye she did, my lips were a dark red and she always put to much highlighter. Around my neck was a beautiful diamond necklace with matching drop style earrings. The crown matched the entire look, it was just as much as the necklace and earrings almost dulling the silver sequins on my black form fitting dress that had a much longer train than I would have personally picked out. I looked like a very confident Queen to be. " I'll meet you at the kingdom gates with mother. That way you both are already outside and you won't have time to change." She said smiling like she had just won the battle. She closed my door and I could hear her calling for mother, I took a deep breath and cautiously walked out of my door leaving it open for the maids. I always tried to help them when I could, mother not so much. She preferred me not to help them but that is one thing that will be changing once I take over the throne. I walked down the hallway to the stairs and took them two at a time. Something I rarely did while anyone was around. I walked swiftly past the guard standing at the end of the stairs. " Well if it isn't my cousin the Queen to be, trying to sneak past me dressed rather questionably. Leila should have known better than to pick that particular dress out for you, especially when you are going to visit the packs of the kingdom today." Sneered my b***h of a cousin, Daphne. She has been jealous of Leila and I since I can remember. I stopped and stood straight up, I didn't even look at her as I spoke. " Well, if it isn't Daphne. What do you want now? You will have to walk and talk, I don't have time for your bullshit this morning. Since you know I have a busy day today. And for the record, what I wear is none of your business." I sneered back as I continued walking to the large front doors of the castle. " Oh I will walk with you. I can't wait to hear what your mother has to say about how your dressed for such an important day." Daphne laughed, as she caught up with me. I rolled my eyes. Daphne was not a ugly girl, she was about 5'5 and was very thin. She had hazel colored eyes and blonde hair that was straight as a board. She could never get it to curl. I looked at the guards and nodded my head as they opened the doors for me. I stood straight up and walked as I had been taught but all my tutors, we used to joke and call it the Queens walk. Leila's eyes narrowed when she seen Daphne walking next to me. Mother was talking to the driver about the first 8 packs we had to visit. I raised my eyebrow at Leila and rolled my eyes. ' She is such a b***h, I don't even know why or how father put up with her and our aunt.' I mind linked Leila. I saw her snort and cover her mouth trying to stifle her laugh. My mother noticed my sister and looked in my direction. ' What the hell are you wearing Genevieve? I told you to look like a Queen to be, not a mate less she wolf.' My mother said in the mind link. Her tone was very disapproving. Leila touched her lips and acted like she knew nothing of the conversation happening. ' If wolves had manners, then what she is wearing wouldn't be a problem mother. I think she looks hot.' Leila responded, giving me a thumbs up. I shook my head smirking. " You know, my mother would never let me go anywhere dressed like this with her. Especially not out to visit the packs in the kingdom." Daphne said breaking our mind link conversation. Leila rolled her eyes and started to speak but our mother held her hand up. She turned to face Daphne and I. " Daphne, I'm very capable of handling how my daughter dresses. But I know for a fact that you've worn much less than what Genevieve is currently wearing. Are you implying that you would be a better Queen to be? Or that your mother, my sister would be a better Queen?" My mother asked calmly. But I knew there was a storm brewing under all that calm. " No, Cordelia I would never say that. That's not what I meant." Daphne said, bowing her head. She knew she had caught my mother on a bad day. " Then I suggest you run back to the castle, I don't have time for your ridiculous drama this morning." My mother said, turning around and motioning for the driver to open her door. I laughed and looked at Daphne. ' You'll learn to keep your mouth shut one day. Hope she's not still pissed when we return.' I mind linked Daphne, letting my laughter fill her mind before cutting the mind link off. I could see her fuming before she turned around and walked back towards the castle. My mother sat in the car and the driver closed her door and walked around the other side of the black limousine and opened my door. I smiled at him and slid into the seat. Leila sat on the opposite seat in front of mother and I. They instantly started making small talk about Daphne. I just sat there and admired my mother. She stood up for me when I thought she was going to call me out in front of Daphne. My mother was a beautiful woman, she had long blonde hair it was almost white it was so blonde. Her eyes were a beautiful silver color, she was slender but had slight curves. She and I had our differences but she never let me down. Even after losing her mate our father King Alford. She hasn't been the same since. " Your father would be so proud of both of you girls. His death hasn't been easy, and for that I'm sorry. I heard you last night Genevieve, I tried to come to you but your door was locked. You don't have to deal with your nightmares alone." I heard my mother say as she placed her hand on my thigh. I looked up at her and give her my best smile. " I don't want to burden you with my nightmares, you have them yourself. You don't need to worry about me. I'll be fine, you and father raised me tough." I told her as I patted her hand. I looked out the window and seen a big sign that read ' Blue Crescent Pack'. " Now Genevieve, since your sister decided to pick something this revealing out-" My mother shot my sister a death glare, as Leila just rolled her eyes and laughed " I want you to stay by my side. These men are very strong warriors and I don't want any mishaps. Understand?" She asked looking me in the eyes knowing that I knew it wasn't a challenge. It was never a good idea to stare any Alpha in the eyes, but especially not the Royal Alphas. " Yes mother. I hope I find my mate today. I don't want to be viewed as a weak Queen because I don't have a mate." I said refusing to look at my mother. She laughed and it made me look at her. That was the first time I'd heard her laugh since our father died. " My dear, you could never be mistaken for a weak Queen. Mate or not, you have your fathers temper though I wish some days that you didn't. Nobody will view you as a weak Queen. That I promise you. Try to have fun today, not to much but try to enjoy your loyal subjects as much as possible. For they are the ones that will be there to fight with you should there ever be a war." She said looking out the window on the last part. I looked at Leila who looked as confused as I was. ' Do you feel like she's hiding something?' I asked in our mind link. Leila narrowed her eyes slightly and nodded. ' My wolf senses something is off with her, I thought maybe it was just her having a bad day without dad. But now I'm not so sure honestly.' My sister said. I shrugged my shoulders, it'll come out eventually. We pulled up to a beautiful stone three story house I assumed to be the pack house. There were a lot of very good looking men, I didn't want to get caught staring but Goddess they were all shirtless with just jeans on, none of them had shoes on. They all seemed to drop everything they were doing and bow. The driver got out and opened our mothers door and she looked at me and smiled before climbing out of the car. I watched her walk to the front of the limo and wait for us to get out. The driver opened my door and Leila climbed out first adjusting her long silver dress a little before walking to stand next to our mother. I took a deep breath and squared my shoulders and climbed out and smiled at the driver. He was always so sweet. I felt every eye on me. I kept my head high and never took my eyes off my mother. I silently cursed Leila for the heels she forced me to wear. Leila smiled at me as if she knew. " Hello Blue Crescent Pack, you have only seen my late husband King Alford, but it was time for that to change. I've brought the Queen to be Genevieve to meet and greet with every Alpha of the biggest packs in our kingdom. Where is the Alpha?" My mothers voice rang out loud and strong. They all stood up and dropped their eyes. " He's not here at the moment Alpha Queen, I do apologize. He should be back in a few hours. You are more than welcome to wait in the pack house for his return." Said a tall dark skinned man. He had unusual green eyes and short black hair. ' Beta.' My wolf Ariel said, she was pacing back and forth in the back of my mind. ' What's wrong with you? You've never been this active.' I asked her, curious. ' You don't smell him? Take a deep breath.' She said, irritated. I closed my eyes and inhaled deep, then it hit me. The scent was very faint, it smelled like fire wood burning mixed with a warm cinnamon. I opened my eyes and I instantly knew my wolf was on the surface. " Mate." Everyone's eyes were on me in a flash, my mother smiled and my sister was practically jumping up and down in one spot. I took another deep breath and closed my eyes. When I opened them I could feel everyone staring at me. The Beta's eyes were widened and milky colored. He was mind linking him. My mate. He blinked his eyes and smiled at me. " He is on his way, Princess." The Beta said looking at me smiling. He was coming. He was coming for me. I could hear my wolf howling in the back if my head ecstatic. But a quick fear crossed my mind, what if he doesn't like me.
