Chapter 1
A wolf with a large body stepped on a young man's back with one foot. The people around seemed unconcerned. "Holy, you're seriously going to marry him." The youth raised his head. "Do you know who he is? You'll regret marrying the beast." "Don't," Holy said when the wolf was about to bite the young man's neck. "Please." Holy looked at Declan, then she took a breath. She had made her decision, it was probably for the best. "I love Declan, whatever he is, I love him sincerely. You have nothing to worry about," Holy said to the young man. She took Declan's hand, the man smiled at her. A man with a large build stood beside the two. The man had quite bushy sideburns. The two were at the stone podium, around which there were several stones embedded in the ground. It was a sacred place, where werewolf clans performed wedding ceremonies and offerings. There were no dresses or food dishes. Even the people were dressed casually, wearing jackets and jeans. "We will begin the wedding procession." Declan glanced at the man. The woman in front of him looked nervous. Holy started to doubt her decision. She hadn't even told her parents about the wedding. "It's okay." Declan tried to calm Holy. He also rubbed the back of Holy's hand with his thumb. "Declan. Do you promise to make Holy your only mate?" The man in his forties asked. "I promise." "Holy, are you willing to be Declan's mate?" Holy turned her head briefly towards the man. "I do." Suddenly, a strong wind blew, distracting some people's attention. They looked up at the darkening sky. A white-haired woman looked worried. "Declan. Do you promise to protect your wife and all your descendants?" "I promise." Declan tried to get Holy to look at him and not think about their surroundings. "Holy, are you willing to be loyal to the clan and obey all the rules?" They waited, but Holy was silent and kept her eyes on the blackish clouds that were moving quite fast towards them. The place became dark immediately. "Holy," called Declan. "I, I'm willing." Even though he did not hear what the man was asking, he answered confidently. "Now you must unite the blood as a final procession." The man handed Declan a knife. "Are you ready?" asked Declan. He had to make sure that Holy didn't panic because Holy could get seriously hurt if she didn't calm down. Holy just mumbled and gave his thumb to be slashed. Declan held it and scraped her thumb quickly. Holy moved backwards against the pain. Declan did the same quickly and brought their thumbs together. "Please take the vow, Declan, have you memorized it?" Declan nodded, his other hand grabbing Holy's back to bring her closer to him. Holy was still enduring the pain. "Follow me. We swear." "We swear." Then Holy cried out as Declan accidentally pressed on her wound. "I'm sorry. Let's start from the beginning." Declan tried to hold Holy's body upright. "We swear we will love each other." "We swear we will love each other." "We swear we will protect our clan and our descendants." "Holy!" the young man shouted. The wolf turned him around and kicked him in the stomach. The young man felt so much pain, he could only stare at Holy's back and couldn't make a sound. "We swear to protect our clan and our descendants," Holy said. "For the sake of the forest and the ancestors, please bless this marriage." Declan took his thumbs to the round stone, a single drop of their blood hitting the stone. Immediately, rain poured down on them. Holy was screaming when she saw his palms were black. The rainwater was dark. Everyone seemed confused by the incident. "What's going on?" Declan asked the grown man who was staring at the sky. He put his arm around Holy. "This is not right. It looks like this marriage has just been cursed," said a woman with white hair. Holy turned to Declan, but the man tried to be calm in front of her. "I want to go home," Holy said. "You may leave." The old man felt Holy needed time to settle down with the Declan family. "Alright." They finally left there. The rain was still falling, Declan couldn't go fast enough, his vision impaired as the black rainwater partially covered the windshield. Once they got out of the forest, it was still dark. Declan stopped the car in front of the house. Holy got out and looked at the man. "See you at college," Declan said. The man turned the car around and drove away. The wind was blowing hard. Holy kept thinking about the rain and the wedding they just had. She rushed inside as her body felt shivering. "Holy." Her mom was in the kitchen when Holy walked hurriedly into the room. She looked at herself in the mirror, some of her face was black. The blue t-shirt she was wearing also looked dirty, as if God had thrown ink at them. Holy undressed and saw a bite mark on her shoulder, bluish. Although it didn't hurt to touch it, she was bothered by the mark. "Holy." Holy immediately turned around when she saw her mother open the bathroom door. She also took a shirt and covered her chest. "What are you doing?" Her mother gave Holy a suspicious look. She quickly walked over. "Mom, I want to take a shower, can you come out--" Julie twisted Holy's body forcefully. Her eyes widened at the mark on her daughter's shoulder. "What happened?" Julie held the mark and there was no pain for Holy. The temperature was not even warm, like most bruises. "I fell, but it's okay." Julie thought she recognized the mark, but there was no way. She hoped Holy would not have to deal with the furry creature. As night fell, Holy couldn't sleep and just lay with the curtains open. He looked up at the dark sky. The bad weather seemed to continue until tomorrow. Meanwhile, someone knocked on the door. Julie, who had been knitting, stood up and looked at the guest standing at the door through the glass. "What's wrong?" Julie opened the door, glasses still perched on her nose. The man came in and rubbed his palms together. He looked a mess. There was a cut on the corner of his lip and a bruise on his cheek. The man grimaced, holding on to the wall to keep from falling. "You should take Holy away." The young man coughed. "Why? What happened?" Julie was getting worried. "Holy." The young man saw Holy standing on the stairs. Julie immediately turned around. Holy wanted to stop the man, but nausea suddenly set in. She was about to vomit, but managed to hold it in. Holy hurried back upstairs. Julie was confused whether she should listen to the man first or follow Holy?
