The air in the secret underground lab was heavy with dust and the smell of metal. My boots echoed on the cold concrete floor as I walked through the empty room. My heart was beating fast. The flickering lights made strange shadows on the walls, showing old computers, rusty medical tools, and piles of forgotten papers.
Sophia walked next to me. I couldn't read her face, but I felt the weight of the things she still hadn't told me.
I stopped in front of some metal file cabinets. The drawers were a little open, as if someone had left in a hurry. I grabbed a handle and pulled it open. The papers inside were yellow and old, but the names on them made me freeze.
