Jason’s Pov

I followed her sent and chased her as soon as I got close to her, she stopped but didn't sense that I was there she must be talking to her wolf. “She is and I know she said something about being damaged goods and something about being strong, but I sensed her wolf, and she is strong, so I don't know what she is talking about.” Damon my wolf says. I looked back at him and replied “I know she's strong I knew she was strong from the time I met her she was so beautiful sitting down her back pressed against the tree. she had this notebook in her lap, and she was drawing something until some kid came up and called her some ugly names.” Damon growled in my head looking back on the moment I knew I wanted Haylee the sweet innocent little girl. I looked up at the back of her head she still had that long brown hair she never cut it off and I just thought about how good it would feel wrapping it around my hand while I pulled her head back towards me. I mentally slapped myself this was no time to be thinking like this. she wanted to leave me, and I needed to change her mind before I could even think about mating and marking her. I slowly started to walk up to her when she suddenly turned around and ran face first into my chest. I reached out to catch her, but it was too late she had already fallen and landed on her a**. I bent down to help her up when I saw that her shirt had raised up and was showing some nasty bruises on it. Damon was growling and scratching in my head to be let out to kill who ever laid a finger on our mate. “Who the f*ck hurt you.” mine and Damon’s voice came out together.

She jumped up and started to pull her shirt down but that was not happening. I rushed her and pulled her shirt up until it was right under her bra. There where bruises on top of bruises somewhere already yellow but you can tell that the back and blue ones were newer. She started to back away from me she looked like she was about to make a run for it, and I couldn’t let that happen. I reached out and grabbed her arm but not hard enough to hurt her. She turned her face towards me and looked me deep in the eye’s. “Please tell me who hurt you.” I asked calmly.

She searched my face to see if I was lying or if I was going to hurt her before she answered. “I can’t tell you that, you wouldn’t believe me even if I did tell you.”

I shook my head “No I will believe you; you have no reason to lie to me. And I want to give you a reason to trust me and give us a chance.” I replied

She took a deep breath and pulled me down to the grass with her before she got comfy and started to talk. “I want to give you a chance so does Harley my wolf, but I always promised myself and my mother that I would leave this pack and never look back there are something's that others can't know about and things I need to keep hidden and I can't do that hear. I need to go to the humans and live like them so I can survive. and as for who hurt me that is a long story that I’m scared to tell anyone even my mate. the only other person that knows is the gamma because he found me one day and made me tell him and since then he has been training me in secret.” she finally stopped to take a breath. I loved hearing her voice I could listen to it all day.

I took her hand in mine before answering “I can’t help unless you tell me what is going on and what is it that you need to hide so bad? I am your mate you can tell me anything and I will try my best to understand and/or help you with it.”

it took her a moment to look in my eyes to see if I was being truthful and she must have seen that I was because as soon as she started to talk, she didn’t even stop to take a breath. “You saved me from the bullies when we were younger, I remember that, and I will always be thankful for that but as soon as you got with Daisy you forgot about me. You fixed my heart and made me fall for you just for you to break it again.” Tears started to form in her eyes as she continued “After that I really wasn’t bullied by anyone anymore besides two people, but no one knew because they always punched or kicked me where no one could see the marks and honestly I didn’t know if my father knew and just didn't care or if he didn't know at all.” She tried to wipe the tears away, but they just kept coming. I pulled her closer trying to help her calm down, I rubbed small circles on her thigh. I felt the tingles go through my arm and all over my body and I saw her relax a little more and I knew that what everyone said about the touch of a mate calms them was the truth. I really just wanted her to tell me who hurt her, but I didn’t want to push her to far because if I did, I might just push her all the way out of my life, and I couldn’t let that happen. She played with the grass as she said “The gamma found out and trained me in secret so I could protect myself but also so that when I did leave no one could stop me, I was going to leave tomorrow night while everyone was at the moon ball but then when I saw you tonight I knew I had to leave, I figured you would reject me and I would have to leave anyways so I was just trying to saving myself from a little heartbreak.”

“I will not be rejecting you I have had a crush on you ever since I could remember I just thought you didn’t feel the same, you never told me. the only reason I was with Daisy is because she knew that I had a crush on you and she told me that if I wanted her not to hurt you then I would have to be with her. I just wanted to keep protecting you that is all. and please remind me to thank the gamma for helping you when I couldn’t.” I was finally able to get a word in.

“I did have a crush on you, but Daisy always told me that you would never like someone like me. My stepmother told me that I would have to reject my mate tomorrow night if I even met him because he would never want someone that is damaged and have all the scars that I have. What you see on my stomach is not even the worst of it all. and as for the things I need to keep hidden I would have to show you something first and then tell you everything, but you need to keep an open mind please.” she begged.

I nodded “I promise but before that please tell me who hurt you and don’t lie to me, I will know.”

She let go of the grass that she was playing with and looked into my eyes with determination “I will tell you, but I need you to believe me because no one else will.”

I nodded my head for her to continue “It was Ava and Daisy.” As she said those words I felt the air leave from my lungs, I left her in the hands of the people that hurt her the most. I needed to fix this and I knew exactly what to do.
