And You Want Me To Do What?

1808 Words
Madalyn     Waking up, not knowing where I am, and not exactly sure what just happened. Honestly, I don't know what day it is. Okay, I need to focus on what I do know and get my bearings.  Alright, Maddy.      Talking to myself. And in third person nonetheless, Great... You're Madalyn Cooper, 20 years old. Born and raised in small town, USA. You're a thief and criminal, trying to find and save your little brother, who is almost 16, Sebastian. You recently discovered you have some weird super powers. It enables you to move and maneuver like nothing ever seen before, but it helps with your thieving career for sure! It also allows you to 'mind control' people and the general space around you.  Now it seems that you also have some crazy explosion power too. If that isn't insane enough for you, your BFF, Jasper, you now think is yummy. You took it upon yourself to have an intense kiss with Jasper not too long before you decided to walk into the Tavern and get the hots for some hunky bad boy stranger... at a bar!  You exploded s**t, passed out, and now you're in what looks like a dingy hotel room.     "Yup, that about sums it up..." I groggily manage to mutter as I try to sit up.     "Whoa there Boomer. Easy now, you wiped yourself out pretty good back there. You're gonna need some rest after that display." that husky voice from earlier...     "Who are YOU? And where am I?" jumping up I stand toe to toe with the ruggedly handsome man from the Tavern, and who obviously saw the explosion thing I did.    'BOOMER'? Really? I saw what you did there. Because you saw me explode, made things go 'boom', I'm 'Boomer'..... I'm sure you think you're pretty witty, and being so damn handsome, I bet it works on the ladies quite often.     Standing so close to him, I notice how tall he is. I'm slightly average height for a woman, 5' 7", and I still have to look up at him. He's probably in the 6'3" range. He's lean but has a strong stature about him. I'm close enough to smell him. Breathing in his sultry scent, I can feel myself soften. Without meaning to, my walls begin to fall. It kind of catches me off, I'm normally so guarded with pretty much everyone. But with him,... I don't know. It's something so different than anything I've ever felt. Almost like he sees me, all of me, and welcomes me completely.     "Okay, maybe we started off kind of weird. How about this? A redo?" he takes a step back as his voice softens and loses it's sarcastic, playful tone.     "A redo?" I ask.     "Yes, a redo." he extends his arm out and offers his hand, "I am Wyatt Rogers, but my enemies just call me Wyatt."     "Your enemies?" raising an eyebrow, but I can't keep from hiding my smirk. I reach out to give him my hand in return, "So what do your friend's call you then?"     "Friends?" he laughs, "Oh, you're assuming I HAVE friends. Yeah, no... No friends."     Placing my hand in his and giving it a nice, firm handshake, "Well, maybe we can remedy that." Maddy! Are you flirting with him?     Chastising my boldness, and coy flirtation, I quickly try to pull my hand from his grip.     "Well now isn't that a little difficult since you haven't even given me YOUR name?" he tightens his grip on my hand, not allowing me to let him go. He steps in closer and releases my hand and places it on his chest, pressing his hand on top of mine.      "Oh, um... sorry. I'm uh.... I'm..." stuttering and scrambling for my name.      "You're?... You're who?" he is enjoying this.     "Eh hem," I clear my throat, and try to clear my thoughts. "I'm Maddy. I mean I'm Madalyn, Madalyn Cooper." I blurt out.     "Hahahah!" His laugh bellows, "Okay, let me guess. You're Madalyn, but only your friends call you 'Maddy', but you're not quite sure you want me to call you 'Maddy', right?" he chuckles, but I can tell he is actually trying to be understanding and sincere. How does this guy get me? He doesn't even know me, and from the looks of him, he has 'Bad News' written ALL over him.      "Yes," finding my words and calming my nerves, "But I did already say we might be able to remedy your 'friend' situation. So I guess you can call me 'Maddy'. I hold the right to revoke that privilege if you deem yourself unworthy of it, got it?"     "Got it Maddy." he says with a smile, and releases my hand from his chest.     I'd be lying if I said that I didn't like having it there. But it is much easier to concentrate without being so close to him. I step away and take a seat on the bed. He follows suit and takes a seat in a nearby chair, pulling it closer to the bed. When he sees me give him a questioning look, he smirks and gives me a wink.     "Excuse me?" I respond and watch the look of bewilderment come across his face.     "Really? That did nothing for ya?" he is astonished.     "Was it supposed to?" as it dawns on me, I burst out in laughter, "Oh! You thought...? So that actually works for you?" I can tell he isn't as amused by this as I am, so I stifle my laughter and clear my throat, "Eh hem... Okay well, I do think we need to discuss what happened earlier."     "Uh, yeah. There are actually a few things I wanted to ask you, and discuss as well." he nods and takes a seat, leaving the chair pulled closely to the bed.     I give him a side glance, wondering why he is still positioned so closely to me even though his 'wink' didn't do what he had obviously hoped it would.     "These walls aren't very thick and they could have ears, if you know what I mean. And I have a feeling some of the things we are going to discuss don't need to be heard by anyone who ISN'T in this room. Catch my drift?" he leans in and his voice takes on a hushed tone.     "You're right... Where are we anyways?" looking around, I really don't notice anything in here that shows anyone is even staying in here.     "It's my room. If you go into the hallway, walk to the stairwell and go down. You will find yourself in the Tavern. You know? The one you ran away from because of me last night." he runs his hand through his well-kept beard every so often as he speaks.     "Okay, wow. Um... So YOUR room? The Tavern? Last night?" putting a few pieces together, I think for a moment, "Okay, if this is your room, where are all your things? And who says I was leaving the Tavern because of YOU? That was LAST night? So I haven't been out for like days or anything?"     "Yes, it's my room, I assure you. As for my things? I travel lightly. Keep what I need on myself at all times." he looks at the bed and smirks, "Well... most of the time anyways." Seriously?     I don't know why, but the way he said that and how husky his voice sounded... The smirk he had while he licked his lips after saying it... It sent a rush throughout my body. Hating myself for that, I roll my eyes at him. Hoping he couldn't tell that he did get a reaction out of me that he was probably trying for.      "Yes, it was last night. You've been out for probably a few hours, but I wanted to let you sleep. What you did back there... That exerts a massive amount of energy. I've never seen anything quite like it actually. And yes, I know it was because of ME that you ran out." he speaks directly but with a softness I know is meant FOR me. He places a hand on my knee, not in trying to make a 'move', but in a supportive way. How is he doing this? Where did he come from? It's as if he knows what I need, even before I know what it is that I need.     "Alright, so maybe me taking off from the Tavern had something to do with you. I promise the explosion thing didn't though. Whatever that was. Thank you by the way... For not just leaving me out there last night."  looking down at my hands and feeling a twinge of guilt for being so reckless with what I had done out there last night.      "Seriously?" he slips down on his knees, placing himself kneeling between my legs as they bend at the edge of the bed. He grabs my chin and tilts it up for me to look at him. We are about eye to eye like this. His body is warm, his hands are rough, and his smell is sultry. I feel my insides warm to him being so close.  He makes sure my eyes are right on him, "Maddy, you didn't do anything wrong. In fact, you did something so incredibly wise. You need to know what you're capable of, and you need to learn how to harness and use your powers. Last night, when you allowed yourself to let go, you made sure to do so somewhere that was away from everyone else, well... except for me." he chuckles, and so do I.     "Okay," I nod.     "Okay? And there was no way in hell I was going to leave you out there, especially like that. It was my choice. Got it?" He waits for my response.     "Got it," I agree.     "So, Maddy. I want to hear your questions and discuss the things you would like to discuss, but I have two questions to ask you real quick." he releases my chin but he is still so intently focused on me.     "Okay, Wyatt. Let me hear it." I say and then wait while he stands up and repositions himself back in his chair.     "First, have you ever heard of The Hunter?" his eyes begin to take on a hint of a blue glow at just the mention of the Hunter's name. Judging from his nod, he can tell by the look on my face, my silence, and my blue glowing eyes from even hearing The Hunter's name,..... he knows that I have.     "I'll take that as a Yes," he concludes, "Well then Maddy.... That brings me to my next question.  How would you like to join me on my mission? I'm going to Kill him Maddy, but I think I sure could use your help doing so."  Join him?
