Chapter 6: The Quiet Between Instincts The forest had finally gone still again. After the chaos of transformation, restraint, and healing, silence settled over Jiho’s garden like a soft blanket. The wind moved gently through the leaves, brushing against the wooden fence, carrying the faint scent of herbs and damp earth. Jiho stood in the center of it all, breathing slowly. Minho was awake now. That alone already changed the atmosphere of the entire place. Jiho had guided him back to the safe zone earlier without much explanation, mostly because Minho’s condition had still been unstable. The Alpha had insisted he could leave immediately after waking up—but Jiho had refused. “You’re not going anywhere in that condition,” Jiho had said firmly. Minho had looked at him for a long moment. Then, strangely… he didn’t argue again. Now, Minho sat on the wooden steps outside Jiho’s house, his back resting against one of the pillars. His posture was relaxed, but his eyes remained alert—always alert. That was the nature of an Alpha. Even injured, even calm, they never fully let their guard down. Jiho noticed that. “…You’re still planning to leave?” Jiho asked as he walked out with a small bowl of herbal medicine. Minho glanced at him. “I said I would.” Jiho placed the bowl beside him. “And I said you’re not leaving until your wounds stabilize.” A pause. Minho looked at the bowl. Then at Jiho. “…You’re very stubborn.” Jiho crossed his arms. “And you’re very injured.” That earned him a faint exhale from Minho—almost like a laugh, but not quite. Minho picked up the bowl and drank without further complaint. Jiho watched him carefully. The herbal mixture he had prepared wasn’t ordinary. The plants in his garden reacted to his abilities, meaning their healing properties were stronger than normal. Combined with his knowledge from the System, it created something closer to accelerated regeneration support. Still, Minho’s body was not ordinary either. Alpha physiology was stronger, faster—but also more unstable when damaged. Jiho could see it even now. The faint tension in Minho’s muscles. The lingering instability in his mana flow. The way his instincts still occasionally flickered beneath the surface like something waiting to wake up again. “…You need at least one more day,” Jiho said quietly. Minho raised an eyebrow. “Are you ordering me now?” Jiho hesitated for a second. Then: “Yes.” For a moment, silence stretched between them. Then Minho looked away slightly. “…Fine.” Jiho blinked. “…Really?” “I don’t like repeating myself,” Minho muttered. “And you’re annoying when you’re worried.” Jiho frowned. “I’m not—” “You are.” That ended the argument. Strangely, Jiho didn’t feel offended. Instead, he just sighed and turned away. Minho watched him. He really did watch him a lot. Not in a hostile way. Not even in a purely analytical way anymore. It was… different. --- The Garden After Dusk By the time the sun began to lower, Jiho had returned to his garden. The place had already changed since the first time Minho saw it. More herbs had been planted. Vines had begun to grow along the edges of the wooden frames. Some of the plants even glowed faintly under Jiho’s influence, reacting to his presence like living extensions of him. Minho stood at the edge of the garden, observing silently. “You built all this?” he asked. Jiho, who was kneeling near a patch of medicinal herbs, nodded. “Mostly.” “…In how long?” “A few days.” Minho didn’t respond immediately. That was fast. Too fast. Even for someone with resources, this level of growth was unusual. His gaze shifted subtly. “…You’re not normal,” Minho said again. Jiho sighed. “You already said that.” “I’m confirming it.” Jiho didn’t argue this time. Because honestly… he already knew. Instead, he focused on the plants in front of him, gently adjusting their growth using his ability. His fingers brushed over the soil, and faint green light pulsed outward. The herbs responded instantly, stretching slightly as if reaching toward him. Minho noticed that too. “…That power of yours,” he said slowly, “it doesn’t feel like an Omega ability.” Jiho paused. “That’s because it isn’t normal.” Minho stepped closer. “Explain.” Jiho hesitated. He didn’t fully understand it himself yet. The System had called him an anomaly. The forest responded to him in ways even he couldn’t explain properly. But Minho was looking at him seriously now. So Jiho answered honestly. “I can control plants,” he said. “Not just influence them. Control them. They respond to my energy.” Minho was quiet for a moment. Then: “…That should not be possible.” Jiho shrugged slightly. “Tell that to whatever brought me here.” Minho didn’t respond, but his eyes sharpened slightly. He was thinking. Always thinking. That was an Alpha trait too—analysis hidden beneath instinct. Finally, he said, “The world is going to notice you.” Jiho looked up. “…What?” Minho’s gaze stayed steady. “Omegas are rare. Omegas with influence are rarer. Omegas with power like yours…” He paused. “They don’t stay hidden for long.” Jiho looked down at the soil again. “…I didn’t ask for this.” “I know.” That answer came faster than Jiho expected. Minho’s voice was quieter now. “I didn’t say it was your fault.” For a moment, neither of them spoke. The wind moved through the garden. Leaves rustled softly. Somewhere in the distance, a bird called out. --- Night Falls Later, Jiho prepared a small bath area behind the house. It wasn’t a luxury—it was a simple stone pool fed by a natural spring the System had integrated into the safe zone. The water was warm enough to be comfortable, steam rising gently under the evening air. He needed to wash off the dirt and exhaustion from the forest. And Minho, despite his complaints, had agreed to rest nearby. At least… that’s what Jiho thought. He didn’t notice Minho watching from the edge of the garden path as he stepped into the water. The moment Jiho entered the pool, the world seemed to quiet even more. Warm water wrapped around him, easing the tension in his muscles. His shoulders relaxed for the first time in what felt like days. He leaned back slightly, letting the water rise to his collarbone. “…This is better,” he muttered. What Jiho didn’t know— Was that Minho had just turned back toward the house. And stopped. --- A Glimpse Minho wasn’t trying to look. At least, that’s what he told himself. He had simply… noticed the light. But when he turned his head slightly— He saw Jiho. In the pool. Steam drifting around him like a soft veil. Water clinging lightly to his skin, reflecting the faint glow of the garden plants. His hair was slightly damp now, falling softly against his forehead. His expression—calm, relaxed, almost vulnerable in a way Jiho never showed outside moments like this. Minho froze. For a moment, his mind went completely blank. Not instinct. Not analysis. Just stillness. “…Huh.” That was the only sound that escaped him. Jiho shifted slightly in the water, unaware he was being watched, and leaned back against the stone edge. The sight was… strange. Minho had seen strong Omegas before. He had seen fragile ones too. But Jiho— Jiho didn’t fit anything he knew. Soft. But not weak. Calm. But not harmless. And right now… He looked almost unreal. Minho’s throat moved slightly as he looked away first. “…Annoying,” he muttered under his breath. But he didn’t move immediately. --- Unnoticed Change Inside the pool, Jiho exhaled slowly, closing his eyes. For the first time since arriving in this world… He felt almost at peace. He didn’t notice the shift in Minho’s presence. He didn’t notice the way the Alpha had gone still. He didn’t notice the way the air between them had changed again. And he definitely didn’t notice— That Minho had started to see him as something far more dangerous than an Omega. Not because of power. But because of something far more unpredictable. --- End of Chapter 6
