Chapter 1: Passion in Purgatory
Lissie Wickner huddled on the cold floor, every inch of her skin screaming with pain. The air was thick with the smell of disinfectant, yet it couldn't cover up the despair that seeped into her bones.
Abed Tustin looked down at her with a superiority, his deep eyes devoid of any warmth, as if he was looking at a worthless piece of trash. "Lissie, do you think this will win my sympathy?" His voice was as cold as ice. "Don't forget, you're just a tool for me to take revenge on the Wickner family."
Lissie struggled to lift her head, her chapped lips moving, but no sound came out. She couldn't understand how the man who used to smile gently at her had become so cruel. When did their love start to go wrong?
Memories came flooding back. Their first encounter was at a grand banquet. Lissie, dressed in a white gown like a snow lotus untouched by dust, instantly caught Abed's eye. At that time, his eyes were full of amazement and tenderness as he took the initiative to strike up a conversation with her. They talked happily, as if it was a destined fate.
But who could have thought that this seemingly beautiful encounter was a carefully planned conspiracy. Abed's family had a deep - seated feud with the Wickner family, and he approached Lissie only to use her for revenge.
Married life became a purgatory for Lissie. Abed tortured her both mentally and physically. He often locked her in the room, denying her food and water, making her struggle in fear and hunger. He would also deliberately flirt with other women in front of her, especially Tino Yinvile, the woman who had always been infatuated with Abed.
Tino Yinvile always appeared in front of Lissie with a victorious air, sneering at her. "Lissie, stop daydreaming. The one Abed loves is me." Her words were like knives stabbing into Lissie's heart.
Lissie had tried to resist, but her strength was so insignificant in front of Abed. Her family was on the verge of collapse under Abed's suppression, and she had no way out.
As the days passed, Lissie's body grew weaker and her spirit was on the verge of collapse. She no longer cried or struggled, but just lay quietly on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. She knew that her life was coming to an end.
On a stormy night, Lissie's life reached its end. Before she died, there was no hatred in her eyes, only a tinge of faint regret. Perhaps she regretted not being able to wait for the day when Abed would change his mind.
When Abed learned of Lissie's death, he was celebrating with Tino Yinvile. At that moment, his mind went blank, as if all his strength had been drained. He stumbled to Lissie's room and saw her lying quietly on the bed, her face as pale as paper, no longer having the charm of the past.
"Lissie, wake up. I was wrong. I was really wrong." Abed knelt beside the bed, crying bitterly. Only then did he realize that he had unconsciously fallen in love with this woman who he had tortured to be covered in bruises. He thought of her gentleness, her strength, her forbearance, and his heart was filled with endless regret.
He drove Tino Yinvile away and locked himself in the room, spending his days with alcohol. His world lost its color, leaving only boundless darkness and pain. He began to miss Lissie crazily. Every night, he would dream of her smiling at him, but when he woke up, there was only the cold reality.
In the end, Abed died of depression in endless regret and longing. When he died, he was still tightly clutching a ring that Lissie had once worn.
