Chapter 5

Cassandra...

I couldn’t believe the stupidity some people go to, Elena to be specific. After what I did yesterday to help keep Bonnie alive Elena went and did the most stupidest thing I’ve ever known a human to do, especially after all the hard work we went through, she went and pulled the dagger out of Elijah, meaning there was a vengeful original who wanted our hearts in his hand.

Of course Stefan was freaking out that his girlfriend was alone with an original, the same original she daggered, the same original who will use her to get Klaus. Stefan believed that if anyone could get Elijah back on our side it was Elena, I believe that Elijah will do what he has to to get to Klaus which included killing Elena.

So while the three of us stayed at the house waiting for her return Jenna phoned Stefan worrying about where Elena and Jeremy was along with telling him about some messages she received about staying away from Ric, and of course because she wasn’t in the know she was confused seen as though she was back at home from campus. Stefan wanted my help but seen as though I was told to not do anything stupid I decided to sit it out, leaving Stefan to clean up his girlfriends mess.

Me and Damon had a plan of our own, go to Alaric’s apartment to see Katherine, which is exactly what we did. “Thank god” me and and Damon looked at each other as we stood at the threshold seen as though we wasn’t invited in by Alaric. “Thought you might be dead” Damon spoke looking at the vampire doppelgänger. “Unfortunately not. What are you doing here?” She questioned making me chuckle. “We’re here to see if you deserve our help” Damon answered making me roll me eyes, the b***h deserved to be dead but either way she could come in useful but something tells me she’s gonna stab us in the back as soon as she gets the chance.

Katherine looked at me making me smirk. “We figured you still might be kicking, you know with Klaus blending in way too easy, who better to coach him then Katherine” I spoke as I held up a small bottle of vervain. “Is that?” Damon cut her off. “Vervain, your salvation?”

“It’s not gonna undo anything” She shook her head making me roll my eyes. “There’s always a loophole, let me guess he told you stay in this apartment until he says it’s okay to leave?” She went to answer but nothing came out. “You can’t say” I smirked at her making her sigh. “Did he tell you to do absolutely everything he says until the end of time?” Damon questioned making her say “No” I laughed shaking my head. “Oh look there’s the loophole. Now drink this and it’ll prevent any further compulsion” She walked over to the door to grab it but I pulled it away before she could. “Answer me this, you double-crossed us with Isobel, why?” Damon asked her. “I didn’t think you stood a chance against Klaus I was looking out for myself” I laughed at her answer. “And look where that landed you. Here” I threw the vial of vervain at her. “Make sure he doesn’t catch you with it, otherwise you’ll never get out of here, not that it’ll bother me” I shrugged before we walked out. “You owe us” I called as we made our way out of the apartment building.

As we got back to the house everything had gone pear shape, Klaus had gone to the Gilbert’s house and tried to attack Jenna making Stefan reveal himself to her so now she knew all about the things that go bump in the night. Elena had told us that the sun and moon curse was in fact a curse that was placed on Klaus, if he breaks the curse he becomes a hybrid, both vampire and werewolf. To make things even worse Elena had invited Elijah in to the house meaning he could enter whenever the hell he wanted, but apparently her and Elijah had made a new deal, apparently myself, Damon and Stefan will come to no harm at his hands, for an apology in return, of course Damon doesn’t do apologies but Stefan apologised straight away for shoving a dagger through the originals heart.

“The sacrifice is going to happen” Elena spoke as me and Damon didn’t say anything, Bonnie will kill Klaus without hurting herself and Elijah knows how to save my life. I told you I’d find another way” Elena spoke sounding very smug of herself. “Is that true?” Damon questioned getting a small nod from the original who stood in the library with us. “And you’re trusting him after we daggered him twice?” I asked crossing my arms over my chest. “I am” Elena nodded. “You can all go to hell” Damon spoke before walking off. “That was fun” I spoke making them look at me. “Well, you won’t be getting an apology off of me Mr Original, but if you can keep Elena alive then fine, it’s all I was brought in to town for” I shrugged before following after Damon.

I didn’t know what was bothering him so much, but I was gonna find out. “Leave it alone Cassandra” He sighed as I walked into his bedroom closing the door behind me. “Like that’s gonna happen” I chuckled walking over to him. “Cass, please, not now” I shrugged as I stood in front of him. “Since when have I ever done as you asked?” I smirked as he glared at me. “Now tell me what is going on with you, because I know you” He looked at me before putting his hands on side of my face. “You don’t understand” he whispered making me sigh. “We’ll make me understand Damon” I whispered back.

“I brought you in to town Cass” I nodded not understanding where he was going with this. “Yeah and I came on my free will” I raised my eyebrow still confused. “If you get hurt or die it’s my fault” I chuckled shaking my head. “Nothings going to happen to me” I promised him. “You don’t get it. You’re all I’ve got Cass, that’s why I left with no goodbye. It’s you, it’s always you and it drives me insane because no matter how hard I try, no matter how much distance I put between us I can’t get you off my mind” I stared at him not knowing where he was going with this. “If I lose you, I lose myself. I don’t wanna lose myself so me keeping my distance is what I had to do, but now your back and your driving me crazy” He spoke as he stared at me. “I don’t know what you-“ he cut me off by pressing his lips against mine, it wasn’t like our usual kisses, instead of him been hard and dominant he was gentle making me realise what he was trying to say. “I need you Cass, more than I’ve ever needed anyone” I stared at him shocked because I wasn’t expecting this. Instead of saying anything my lips smashed against his making him speed me towards his bed.

This was a whole complete shock, I knew Damon didn’t do feelings, he never put his heart on the line in fear of getting it crushed again. “God I love you” He whispered against my lips making me pull away to stare at him in shock, it was alright him telling me he needed me but to tell me he loves me was something I never expected to hear out of his mouth. “I love you” I whispered back before I pulled his lips back to mine. We was a tangle of limbs and sheets with our clothes scattered across the room ripped.

We didn’t end up going to sleep until stupid hours in the morning but as I woke up I couldn’t help but smile as my head laid against his chest and his arms was wrapped around me. “Morning sleeping beauty” I snorted at he cheesy greeting. “Morning” I whispered not wanting to disturb our peace but of course that didn’t happen as we heard the conversation going on downstairs.

Knowing we had to get up Damon placed a kiss on my forehead before we got up and shared a quick shower before getting dressed and heading downstairs. “Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline, the curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting, but if he breaks it he’ll be a true hybrid” Elijah explained the curse as we walked into the library. “Then why the hell are we letting him break the curse? Vampires running around town okay” I shrugged as I walked towards a spare seat. “But a hybrid no thanks” I finished as I looked at Elijah knowing he might not be too happy with us plotting his brothers death. “We can kill him today, with Bonnie” Damon spoke up from behind my chair.

“No, Bonnie can’t use that much power without dying. It’s not an option” Elena spoke making me sigh. “So what we just let you get sacrificed with a short chance you come back to life?” I asked because I knew it would hurt Stefan if she died and I didn’t wanna see that happen, I’ve seen what happens when he goes off the edge. “All right, how do we break the curse?” Stefan questioned Elijah getting back on to the topic.

“Well the ritual itself is straightforward. The ingredients so to speak you already know” Elijah spoke as he walked across the room. “The moonstone” Stefan nodded. “Yes, a witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that’s bound within the stone. After that Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire will sacrifice one of each” Elijah explained making me share a look with Damon, so he also needed a werewolf and a vampire. “And where do I fit into it?” Elena questioned. “The final part of the ritual. Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger to the point of your death” Once Elijah finished I looked over at the love birds, Stefan looked like he wasn’t going to cope much more as he held on to his girlfriends hand.

“And that’s where you come in” Elena sighed looking back at Elijah who opened a box. “This is an elixir that I acquired some 500 years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation” He explained as he looked at the bottle of elixir. “So I’ll be dead?” Elena questioned now finally seeing she might not survive this. “And then you won’t”

“That’s your plan? A magic witch potion with no expiration date? You wanna come back to life? What about Johns ring?” Damon spoke up as he looked at the doppelgänger. “Dame the ring only works on non supernaturals, Elena being a doppelgänger the chances of it working are slim” I explained to him as I looked over at him, I could tell he was more on edge since Elijah explained that Klaus needed a vampire to sacrifice. “What if it doesn’t work Elena?” I asked her because she needed to know that it might not. “Then I’ll be dead” She looked at me making me look at Stefan to see what he had to say about his girlfriend talking about her death, but he didn’t say anything making me scoff. “I come into town to help save your life and all your doing is purposefully walking to deaths door” I shook my head before walking out.

What was the point of me coming to Mystic Falls? Every chance we’ve taken to try save her life she’s gone against, so honestly what’s the point?

As I walked out I could hear the rest of the conversation making me listen in. “Do we know if Klaus had everything he needs to do this? Does he have a werewolf?” Elena questioned as I walked upstairs to Damon’s room and pouring myself a glass of whiskey. “Klaus has been waiting to break this curse for over 1000 years. If he doesn’t already have a werewolf my guess is by tonight he will”

I sighed rolling my eyes, he definitely had a werewolf he wouldn’t let this chance go not if he’s been wanting it for so long. As I sat on the bed I could hear Damon and Stefan out in the garden arguing about Elena’s instincts of trusting people.

Deciding enough was enough I walked back downstairs to see Elena and Elijah stood talking. “You’d think they’d understand why I’m willing to do this” I rolled my eyes as I joined them. “No we don’t but please enlighten me as to why you are” both she and Elijah looked over at me. “I’m the key to breaking the curse, Klaus is here because of me. If I don’t stop him then he’s gonna hurt people. It’s that simple” She tried to explain making me chuckle. “He wouldn’t have know of your existence if you didn’t go to Richmond and basically shout to the whole supernatural that you was alive” I told her making her sigh knowing I was right.

“There’s a chance this elixir won’t work. I don’t wanna mislead you” Elijah told the doppelgänger who flicked her eyes towards me. “I know the chances I’m taking” I chuckled shaking my head. “And what about Stefan if you don’t survive this?” I asked her just as the front door slam with Jenna telling whoever to get out.

Turns out Klaus had stopped using Ric’s body and sent him back to us with a message that the sacrifice happens tonight making us all on edge because let’s face it we couldn’t do anything now. Everyone started questioning him but Ric couldn’t remember anything he did. Damon fed Elena his blood so there was a definite chance that’s she’s come back and when I asked him why I was scared of the answer as I thought he was in love with her but he did it for Stefan knowing how his little brother would react without her in his life.

“I screwed up” Damon spoke before Ric could grill him as we sat at the bar day drinking. “Yeah, yeah you did” Ric agreed but before we could carry on with our conversation a British voice joined us. “Gentlemen, lady. Why do glum?” it didn’t take a genius to figure out who joined us. “Klaus I presume” Damon groans as he looked at the original stood next to him. “In the flesh. Thanks for the loner mate” Klaus thanked Ric even though Ric didn’t exactly give him permission to use his body.

“Any reason you stopped by to say hi?” Damon asked standing up to look at Klaus properly. “I’m told your brother fancies my doppelgänger. Just thought I’d remind you not to try anything you’ll regret. Especially Cassandra over there” He looked at me making me raise my eyebrows, how the hell does he know me?

“Thanks for the advice” Damon chuckled after looking at me in question but I was just as confused as him. “I guess you wouldn’t agree to a postponement the, eh?” I questioned looking at the soon to be hybrid. “You’re kidding right?” He questioned making me shrug. “I mean what’s one month in the grand scheme of things?” Damon added making me nod agreeing with him, surely it wouldn’t hurt.

“Let me be clear, I have my vampire, I have my werewolf, I have everything I need. The ritual will happen tonight. So if you want to live to see tomorrow with you girlfriend over there, don’t screw it up” Klaus smirked at us before leaving making us all share a look. “You’re gonna screw it up aren’t you?” Ric looked at his best friend. “You think that if I took his werewolf out she might get over the fact that I tried to turn her into a vampire?” Damon looked over at me raising his eyebrows. “I don’t think it’ll matter because you’ll be dead, and I don’t fancy having you die on me just yet Damon” I told him before giving him a kiss and walking out of the grill.

I needed to go speak to Elena and Stefan and try explain to them why Damon did what he did because even though he doesn’t show it Damon really does care about his little brother. But as I arrived back at the Salvatore house I realised nobody was in but I decided to stay seen as though I’m sure they’ll be back before the ritual goes on meaning I can try and stop Klaus from taking Elena, all I had to do is wait.
