Trust The Shadows (2027 Words)
Remember the fairytale Little Red Riding Hood?. The story our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles used to tell us. You know, about the girl who had been called Red because of a cape she wore. She brings food to her sick grandmother. She wanders off the trail and meets a weird talking wolf standing on two legs, who kept being creepy and asking her personal questions. When she got to her grandmother's house, her grandmother had canines like features. Turns out it was the wolf, who ate her grandmother and wanted to eat here also. Only a hunter came and killed the wolf and they lived happily ever after.
You get the point. Only that, that version of wasn't the true story though. They only told you that to scare you and try to get you to listen to them. Well her name is really Reign Aspen. Oh, the wolf?. Yeah, he's actually a werewolf. His real name Kiba Totem or Rune if were talking about his wolf form. His name is NOT the big bad wolf. In fact, he had no ill intention. He just smelled an intoxicating scent and decided to follow his nose. Only to be led to a beautiful girl walking alone.
Well... I mean Yes, he was asking weird personal questions and being creepy overall but he had not wanted to bring her to any harm, he wanted to help her. Only Red was infuriating him with her short, blunt answers, so he left. Petty, I know (he has a huge ego, another thing no one told us). Oh, and what happened after?, again, No one actually knows what happened to the wolf after he left her. Anyway, that's enough introductions. Here’s an accurate portrayal of how they came to be acquainted.
It was the day the moon fell. All she wanted to do was take a short, calming walk to her grandmother's house. However, her plans quickly got disrupted.
It was a bright and beautiful spring day. The flower was blooming, and the birds were chirping. The girl decided to take a walk to her grandmother's cottage and pick some flowers along the way. She went inside her cabin to grab the red poncho coat her mother had made for her, which she cherished and adored. She decided to grab a couple of other supplies, like water and food to snack on, as she made her way there. She put them in a small bag to carry on her shoulders. She grabbed her boots and walked outside, locking the door behind her.
She started towards the path but realized it was flooded with water. So she decided to take the longer route. This new route she will be taking will have her pass a beautiful meadow. That is filled with exotic flowers of different kinds and a lake that had a waterfall with natural stone steps.
As she continued to walk, she heard a rustling noise near her. She brushed it off, thinking it was deer, but the noise got closer and closer. She looked over to see a pair of glowing eyes staring back at her. It looked like a tall human male. Although, as the shape got closer, it got, the more it looked like a wolf. The figure walked out of the brush, towards her. She c****d her head to the side, surprisingly not feeling any fear.
"Little girl," he said.
"What are you doing all by yourself, alone in the woods?" he finished, looking her in the eyes. His eyes filled with emotions she couldn't decipher before his eyes turned hard.
She replied back with, "My grandmother's home, as she doesn't live too far away."
His eyes softened for half a second, as he saw her smile before they hardened again.
"May I accompany you?" he asked in a coy voice, a smirk creeping onto his face.
Her eyes opened in slight fear, for his smile was intimidating her.
"I-I... no, you may not," she falters at first, but her voice grows more solid as she picks up her sentence again. Her eyes opened in slight fear, as his smile was intimidating her.
He looked at her, now getting annoyed. He walked around her, eyes assessing her like she was prey.
"And why not?" he questioned, a hint of anger in her voice.
She straightened up and confidently, yet calmly said, "My grandmother would not appreciate your company, for she does not like being around unknown people."
He stops in his tracks and stares a hole into the back of her head. After a couple of minutes, she turns around and looks him in the eyes. He stared into her honey grey eyes as she stared into his amethyst colored eyes.
After a while, he got frustrated, looked to the ground, and let out a sigh. When he looked back up, he had a burning look in his and another smirk plastered onto his face. "Until next time, my Red Rose," he says in a sultry voice.
He turns around casually, picking a rose and taking a deep breath, inhaling its fragrance. As he starts towards the brush again. He lifts his other hand as a goodbye. He then looks over his shoulder with a smoldering look, with a bright smile, showing his sharp canines, before he slips back into the cover of the trees.
Reign continued on her way.
After some time of walking, she felt raindrops beating down on her as the thunder started rolling in. Cold and wet, weak, and exhausted, she made her way through the forest.
In the distance, she saw the silhouette of the little house.
The girl started getting cautious as she closer, for something didn't feel right. The door was slightly ajar and damaged as though someone had forcibly opened the door. There were abnormally large animal tracks that lingered around the house, almost as if the creature were stalking its prey. Windows were smashed in. Trees were torn apart and laying astray. Everything lay dormant, not a single sound was heard, but the growling noise coming from inside. The tracks lead into the house, she realized.
The girl felt fear strike her, but she had to continue. She tiptoed through the mud, not making a sound. As she got closer, the louder the roar became. The harder her heart was pounding against her chest, trying to escape. The more her eyes started to fill with tears, as she was fighting the urge to sob loudly. She took a sharp intake of breath as the stair creaked loudly, and she heard the noise go silent just as quickly as she stopped moving. The girl stood there, shaking in fear, but she dared to continue.
Creeping up the stairs, she reached the doorframe and peeked inside. She let out a piercing scream so loud that the animals from a mile away ran in fear. The beast turned hastily towards her and dumped an indistinctive object on the floor behind it. Her eyes trailed back up to the beast in fear. It smiled a joker smile with a wet, stained muzzle and crept towards her on crooked limbs.
"Excuse me, miss?" it croaked in an eery voice, not expecting her to answer, he continued
"I'm lost, and I was wondering if you would be able to help" Its voice changed to one that someone would use to gain pity.
Reign started to shake, her eyes growing wider. She let out another scream and tried to bolt to safety.
The beast, who was expecting this, just grew an even bigger smile and slowly crawled towards her knowing that no one was around for miles and they were too far away from human life even then, that wouldnt save her.
Cracking his neck, he gathered momentum and leaped over her, quickly turning around, leading her back to the- what used to be a- cottage.
She stumbled and fell on her bottom. Crawling back on her hands and feet, she tried to find a way out.
At the last minute, she saw a thick branch. She quickly grabbed it and held it out in front of her as the creature dove towards her face. It latched on to the brach, and she pushed him back after knocking him off balance. She scrambled back up and screamed,
"Wait"
The brute paused and raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, what is it" he replied curiously but also annoyed.
"What are you?". This all happened so quickly she never got to process what was happening.
"Why-" he paused, waiting for her name.
"Reign," she replied.
"Ah," he said with interest, "Why Miss. Reign, I am what you would call a rouge, I'm a werewolf who was outcast by their pack because I was as accused of treason, but I was helping if you ask me." as he answered his voice changed from anger to thoughtful.
"W-werewolf" she managed to say. "You're real?"
"Yes, we are."
She felt dizzy and disorientated but wanted to know more.
"Why are you doing this?"
"You see Reign, as I said, I was kicked out of my pack for some silly reason, which caused me to realize my true nature and lt the beast inside of me free." He paused for a second like he was thinking, "Say?, I was wondering if you would like to help me?"
Reign just stared at him blankly with no emotion
He sighed and continued to speak, "As I said before my pack kicked me out for treason, but we all know it wasn't, so I was wondering if you would care to help me regain my status"
Reign was still extremely confused and began to see black spots dance across her vision. She shook her head in confusion,
"But you said you caused treason. why would your pack kick you out if it wasn't that serious? You are making it seem like nothing happed when clearly it did"
The rouge smiled and said, "Did I say treason?. I meant a small, petty crime that was overlooked as a big one"
Still confused, Reign started to believe the mangy wolf in front of her.
"Oh, well I guess I could try to help out" she replied.
With her vision unstable, she didn't catch the grinch of a smile the rouge had or the advancement towards her.
"Good," he said
"What do I need to do?" Reign was now fully committed to helping this criminal.
"You just need to follow me back to my pack and give a testimony."
"But I don't even know what you did."
The beast paused a bit while circling her and said, "That won't matter. They will understand." and continued his pacing
"I can't walk. I can barely even see, so I don't know if will be of much help," Reign replied, still confused as to what she was doing.
"It's alright, I can carry you then," the beast said hurriedly, wanting to get this over with. He had been waiting for too long. Reign, who was starting to think clearly suddenly exclaimed
"No."
"Excuse me?" the beast roared, angered and baffled.
"I said no."
"Well, I didn't want to have to do this, but it seems you leave me no choice, but there must not be any witnesses."
Reign, who was pretty much lost to the world, didn't process what was said and became lost in her thoughts 'I'll protect you', some unknown voice said in the back of her head. It sounded do close but so far away, so familiar, yet she had never heard it before.
The beast raised its haunches, ready to advance, to focus on trying to eliminate the girl, he didn't sense the change in atmosphere. A branch snapped to his right, but he paid no mind.
Meanwhile, Reign started swaying back and forth feeling nauseous, as she sways, the rouge advances on her with a not so friendly expression. All of a sudden a big figure crashed into the rouge from the side, out of her eyesight or peripheral range. The last thing she sees before falling into unconsciousness was two bright amethyst colored eyes.
