getting the job
1983, Manhattan
The streets, crowded with many people, people who seemed to always be in a hurr. The atmosphere of the street was constantly infected with different sounds. Noises from cars, building and carefree people walking like it was a rush hour. For most outsiders it would confusing or a bit overwhelming but for the people of Manhattan it seemed like every other day.
“I am sorry miss but you seem to fall short in some places you are not qualified for the job”, said a middle aged woman. She looked very young from afar. With her dyed black curly hair and glossy lipstick, you would easily pass her age off as a thirty years old but on closer inspection she looked older from the wrinkles around her eyes and skin.
“ But I met everything on the requirements, I do not understand I filled out all the details of my portfolio, you must be mistaken ma'am ”,replied a young lady who had an obviously disappointed expression.
“miss...Michelle, Michelle Robinson, though it is true you might not be lacking, the scheduling you gave us is unacceptable there are too many loopholes ”,the old woman said with an indifferent face. She had to remain professional but this lady was making it hard.
'what a joke ',the old woman thought concealing her smile with the back of her palm.
“but, what is the problem according to this, I can work from ten Am till eleven then I'll come back to work from five pm till eight pm”, Michelle said not noticing any flaw in her plan.
“... Miss, your schedule is not very professional don't you think, we require utmost concentration from our employees and not this”, the old woman told Michelle.
“okay I'm going I know when I am not wanted”.
'high maintenance for just washing dishes ', michelle thought as she walked away.
'These people are obnoxious, so I need to standard CV to do dishes . Well, that what you get for applying for a job at a big shot restaurant, then what of five star', Michelle thought as she walked out of the restaurant.
Michelle Robinson was a very young lady she was 24 years old and still had many good years ahead of her. Seven years ago she had finished high school and had a great deal of schools she could attend but she did not. She threw it all away to elope with her high school sweet heart Ethan Brown. They were both young, I love and inexperienced they made mistakes, many they could not take back.
She was young and like most of the girls her age, she was very impulsive.
“Today is kinda hot, man I have gotta find myself a place to work with an ac”, Michelle said to herself she was used to talking to herself and occasionally gave herself a pat on her head. To some, it was weird, but to Michelle it was quite normal.
She 'walked' across the road occasionally glancing at her watch to check the time till she reached her destination panting while using a Kleenex to wipe her forehead.
She entered into the restaurant, it was not as pretty as the first and definitely not as high in standard, but it would be easier to work in, or at least she thought.
“Hi, I am here to apply for a job, I saw the sign there for an opening as a kitchen aid on the wall there”, Michelle said pointing at a wall with a banner conspicuously laid.
“you're a beauty, are you sure you came here to work as a kitchen aid ”, a young male host asked. He was a little older than her and had the most beautiful shade of blue eyes she had ever seen.
“yeah, that is what I am here for. Do you need to see any qualifications ”, Michelle asked wary of her last interview.
“qualification, for a kitchen aid not really were not high maintenance, come on, I'll show you the ropes”, the man ushered her into the back of the restaurant.
Michelle was surprised to see how easy it was to get a job here and regretted she did not come here sooner.
'would have saved me from the sun' , she thought while following the man.
After a few minutes of introduction, Michelle became accustomed to the new environment.
“you can start working from today if you want your shift starts from 5 pm till 8 pm, that is the shift we really get busy ”, the male host had a lazy aura , coupled with his poorly knotted tie and uneven shirt he was obviously a carefree person, but he was handsome.
“like you read my mind, it totally works for me , I will start today it is 4:40 pm anyways ”, she responded with an enchanting smile her tiredness completely fading.
“By the way my name is Justin, if you need anything call me okay, your name”,
“ Michelle, Michelle Robinson. So, where do I fill in my employee details.
