The Bad One or The Nerd One

Chapter 5

Katie's P.O.V

"Uncle Cody. Do you still remember your way around the area? It has been about 5 years since you were last here. Cause if you don't I can help to remind you tonight." I asked him. I knew my mum was going off to do something later and I didn't want to be part of it.

"Katie, I still remember my way around but I would happily go around with you later." He was giving me a questioning look as he answered though. He knew that there must have been a reason for asking the question. Anyway, thank you, Uncle Cody. I now have an excuse to not be part of the plan of my mothers. 

"Honey, I know that you are hoping it will you get you out of the plans for tonight but it won't. Uncle Cody will also be involved in them as he is staying with us for a couple of months!" My mum shouted from the kitchen. 

"Damnit!" I shouted under my breath. Uncle Cody must have heard as he started to laugh and shook his head at me. From the look in his eyes, I could tell that he now understood why I had asked to show him around. "What are the plans for tonight mum?" I shouted back at her while pinning Uncle Cody with a death stare to tell him to shut up. It actually worked!

"The new neighbours are coming over for dinner!" She shouted back. I could hear her walking and she looked around the doorway. "You had better behave yourself missy." She actually looked scary as she waved the spatula she was holding in her hand at me. So I reluctantly raised my hands in a form of surrender.

"Can Zac come round to please mum so I'm not alone with a bunch of adults." I gave her my best doggy eyes that I knew she couldn't resist. 

"They have a child your age but yes Zac can come round to keep you company." I ran up to her and hugged while mumbling thanks. I turned around to be faced by Uncle Cody with a loving look on his face yet he also seemed to be in his own world. It seemed like he was in bliss. I didn't want to disturb him so I went up to my room.

I lay on my velvet sheets and brought up Netflix on my TV. I had a couple of hours before I needed to be ready for dinner so it was time to binge a series. I could have resorted to the classics of Vampire Diaries or Jane the Virgin; I could have also gone for the film series classics but I decided it was time to soothe my need to see my crush. There was no longer the want to binge but instead to watch a film. I put on To All The Boys P.S I Still Love You. I love Noah Centineo and Jordan Fisher. I am most definitely team Peter but I don't know who I prefer as an actor. They both are my crush and I could never choose one of them. Like I knew it would it had me crying with sadness and happiness by the end. I love LJ and Peter together and the more I watch it the better it gets.

I was trying to get myself together when I felt my bed dip and voice behind me. "Why are you crying Kat? Is it my fault? Please tell me how I can help fix it." I simply pointed to the TV where it was showing the credits and Zac immediately knew what had me in this state. "Why do you keep watching it when it makes you cry, Kat? It doesn't make any sense."

"It is the best selection of films ever made and I love them. If you can't see that you are truly the dumbest person I have ever met. It is just like you watching your favourite film except yours is a stupid yet terrifying horror." I started shouting at him while hiccuping. Getting angry and crying is not a good combo. "Now get out so I can get ready for the dinner and hide the fact that a film just made me cry." I saw the signature smirk appear on Zac's face as he knew I was returning to me and recovering from the emotional rollercoaster. He slowly backed away from me and towards the door with his hands in the air as a mock surrender. That must have been what I looked like to Uncle Cody and mum just a few hours ago I thought and immediately started to laugh.

Once Zac had left my room I went into my wardrobe to pick some casual but cute clothes to wear to dinner. I had been looking for an occasion to wear my simple off the shoulder white playsuit and my beige flats. I quickly got changed and started to correct my blotchy face. I had to use yet more concealer, powder and mascara to make myself more presentable. I finished the look with a light pink lipgloss and brushing out my hair.

As I left my room I could hear my mum talking to someone at the door so I knew that they must have arrived. "Katie honey. Come down our neighbours are here!" mum called up the stairs. When I got down into the lounge I looked over to Zac who looked worried to be here. I wondered what had got him like that but that didn't last long once I had followed his line of sight. I gasped and had all eyes on me so I ran out of the room. They had made me feel so conscious of my body in this outfit that I couldn't stay there.
