Chapter twenty three - hard to say goodbye!!!

It's been a pretty long day today and so far, it's only noon now. Why does the time always have to deceive me when I'm waiting for something special. My parents have promised to take me out today, that's why I'm really excited. I haven't gone out since that day that I sneak out of the house and met that mysterious stranger who seems familiar at the same time.
"Why hasn't mom and dad come back yet?" I ask no one in particular.
"So you didn't heard the part that they said they won't be coming back until late in the evening" star light says.
"They said that?, I didn't hear" I say.
"That's because you were so excited about going out and you didn't even heard when they are coming back" she says.
"Please tell me" I plead with her.
As it is, I'm already in my beautiful black gown.
"They said around five or six in the evening" she answers.
"Oh come on! you're kidding right?" I ask, whining like a child.
"Do I look like I'm kidding" she says and stares at me.
"OK you're not, but what am I supposed to do now, I'm tired of waiting" I complain.
"Let's play chess" she says.
Funny cats can play chess huh! Sometimes I also used to wonder how extraordinary star light is.
"OK" I say.
I bring out the chess board and arrange everything, then we start playing.
After what seems like forever, star light finally does check mate.
"No that's cheating, how did you win?" I disagree.
She always wins most of the time we play.
"That means I'm better at playing" she defends herself.
"Whatever, I don't wanna play anymore, let's do something else" I say.
"Let's watch the news" she suggests.
"Great idea, it's been like forever since I watched the news" I say while getting up from the floor.
I pick up star light and head out of my room to the living room down stairs.
How I wish I didn't, because that news that I'm about to watch would would change my entire life forever and ever, literally.

"I'm really sorry, I never knew that it would hurt you like that when I left without informing you, I promise I'd never do that again, ever" I apologize.
I left Port's ville a bit late than expected, I kinda overslept after coming back home late from the mayor's party. When I reached the pack house that I left my sister, she was about to burn herself alive but thanks to my fast reflexes, I stopped at the nick of time.
Here we are now, in her bedroom.
"You said you would come back early in the morning but you didn't" she says angrily.
"I'm sorry, I overslept that's why I didn't come home early, but now I'm here that's all that matter" I say.
"If you think that's all that matter, well it's not" she says and draws away from my hug.
"What do you want, I promise I'd do it for you" I promise.
"Even if it's my life" I add, well, I am the Alpha so my life is out of the question.
"How would I ever think of taking your life, you're the only support I have left" she says.
She sits down at the edge of her bed and I walk over and sit besides her.
"What is it, tell me, I'm your brother" I say because I feel like she's hesitating.
"OK brother" she finally look at me and this time there's no anger in her eyes, is like she is pleading for something.
"I know you all think that I'm dangerous in this situation but please don't send me back to that basement, it's killing me" she pleads.
"I promise I won't cause any trouble but please let me stay here, with you" she holds my hand tightly.
In the condition that my sister's in, even the slightest mistake would make her go out of control. I can't risk the safety of my pack because of her but I also don't want to be away from my sister as well.
"OK but promise me one thing" I finally say after some deep thought.
"Whatever you say" she answers eagerly.
"Promise me that you would not leave your room, I'd always be with you through out the day" I say.
"I promise" she says.
I hug her tightly again.
"I really miss you" I say.
"I miss you too brother" she says.
"OK now, let me go and address my pack members, they're waiting for me" I say.
I get up from the bed and walk toward the door.
"I'll be back before you know it" I say and finally exit the room.

I switch on to the Port's ville network news. I walk back to the chair and sit.
"I don't think that there's anything important here" I say.
I'm getting bored already. I stand up and get some popcorn from the kitchen. It'll boost my mood a bit I guess.
"Come and join me" I say to star light.
"Nah, just keep eating, I don't like popcorn much" she refuses.
"Have it your way then" I say.
I'm about to change the channel when something caught my attention. They are about to start some breaking news or something.
"Here from Port's ville network news, we're going to give you update about the recent attacks in the town" the news caster says.
"Just earlier this morning, someone came in and gave some leaked video about the suspected people attacking our town" she adds.
Oh my gosh! I didn't think that those attacks were that serious to be even talked about in the news.
"Here's the short video" she says and then they start playing it. In the video, there was a man ripping the life out of an innocent citizen, with his mouth, literally.
Is that what I think it is?, before I could even finish processing the scene in my brain, a wolf like creature creeps out of no where and attacks another innocent soul.
"Oh my goodness! Is that who I think it is?" Star light gasps.
"This footage was taken secretly in Port's ville college, before the school was put to total lock down, and there are rumours that those monsters are also attacking us door by door now" the news caster woman says after the video.
"What all people are wondering is that who are those people? Are they monsters?" she asks no one in particular.
"This is the end of the attacks update but I'd like to advise that you stay at home and keep your doors and windows closed all the time" she says and the news goes off.
This is it. The end has really come. They have finally found us, and they won't rest until they have finished everyone of us.
I summon all the courage that I could get and get up from the couch. I drag myself to my room. What am I gonna do. What if they are looking for me, that's why they started to attack my school. If that's the case then, the lives of those innocent people were taken because of me and many will be taken because of me.
"Think! Think!! Think!!!" I shout.
Then an idea struck me. If they have come to this town because of me, then if I get out of it, they will follow me as well. I guess. I quickly grab my traveling bag pack and start putting all the things that are essential to me. My clothes, my drugs and all.
Within thirty minutes, I have put everything that I need in the bag. I pick up a pen and a paper and start writing this.
'Hi mom and dad, I know you'd be worried when you come back home and find out that I'm missing but don't you worry because I'm perfectly safe. I'll be back with you as soon as everything subsides, I hope. I don't want you to be worried so please I would ask you this one thing even if it's my last wish, please try and forget about me.

I wipe the tears off my face. I get up from my bed and head to the exit.
"Where are you going now?" Star light asks as I walk down stairs with my bag.
"I'm leaving" I blurt out, trying to hide my pain.
"Where?" she asks.
"I'm leaving this town, I can't risk other people's life anymore" I cry out.
"If it's because of that news we just watched, let me tell you, you have nothing to do with what's going on in this town" she says as she walks toward me.
"Hunph! You think so, can't you tell, this town is perfectly safe till when I came back, I over heard my parents talking about it in the hospital but I refused to believe it but now all evidence has been shown in front of my eyes, they are the same creatures that attacked us in the forest" I say.
"Are you sure?" she asks.
"Yeah, I'm perfectly sure, they have found out that I'm here and it won't take them long to find me now, so I'm leaving, take care of my parents" I say as I walk to the door.
"Hold on a minute, if you're leaving, I'm leaving with you" she stops me.
"What! no, I can't put your life at risk" I refuse.
"It's not your decision to make, I'm coming with you and that's final" she says with absolute clarity.
I don't want to put her in danger as well but I also need a companion in this journey of mine.
"OK fine" I give up.
She runs toward me and we exit the house after I have keep the letter on the centre table. I turn one more time and have a last glance of my childhood house.
"Goodbye" I whisper in tears.
I pick up my phone and text Martha and Carly that I'm leaving and they should not worry about me. I also promise them that I'd give them a call if I get the chance.
"It's time to leave" I say.
"You OK?" she asks.
"I will be" I answer and walk away but I know I will never be OK, nothing will be.
Goodbye home, Goodbye Port's ville, Goodbye life as I once knew it.
