Chapter Six Sloan started out before dawn the next morning. All his gear was packed and ready to go. He made sure that he had more than one canteen of water and plenty of beef jerky to sustain him. If his hunch was correct, he would have to take the long way into the woods in order to remain camouflaged. Once he found the men, he would have to assemble a posse to accompany him if he wanted to confront the men. He mounted the ebony quarter horse and started off on his journey. He would take the route along the stream, so that he could have access to water and remain unexposed. The sky was clear, with no cumulus clouds in sight.
