Chapter 2 The Shift

1232 Words
I feel immense pain and I’m instantly doubled over, I can feel every bone breaking and moving into place as I shift. I’m not sure how long this last, but I do know that I black out from the pain. All I see is darkness. “Hello There” I hear. “Are you my wolf?” I ask the strange voice. “Yes, my name is Bellona. Here in a minuet I’m going to take over because I am extremely hungry, but I promise you will be okay." I feel myself shake my hair and my legs start moving. I’m running on my four legs and I am so so fast! I hear Kasey shift and take off after me. All of a sudden, I’m crouching, I’m stalking the rabbit. I pounce, grabbing by the throat, killing it instantly. I tear into it, eating when I smell Kasey by me, I look at her and let out a low growl. This is my rabbit and I’m not sharing. She lowers her head to me with fear in her eyes to show that she is just watching. I finish the rabbit and start to head towards the pond that’s nearby. Kasey mind links me “Dude! When we get to the pond you have to see what you look like!” I link her back “I am so excited to see what I look like but, why do you look so fearful?” “You’ll see and when you were eating that rabbit your eyes were a golden color, not blue like they are now.” She links me. We arrive at the pond. I look down and my jaw drops, literally. There’s no way, this is impossible. I’m a black wolf with sliver tips, my right paw has blood red on it but only about my claws were the connect with my paw. I dip the paw in the water, slightly hoping its blood. However, no red comes off. My eyes are so blue against my fur, they look like they’re almost a topaz color. I cannot be a warrior, let alone a moon warrior. Only males can be warriors, “You are a moon warrior because the Moon Goddess chose so, and she does not make mistakes.” Bellona tells me. “I am a warrior, Kasey.” Not just any warrior, a warrior that has been seen in like a hundred years, I thought it was just a legend!” she tells me. “Were going to have to start training more! And nobody can know what my wolf looks like” I tell her. “We will just tell them that you are a black wolf, if they ask.” She says. “I wonder what I’m supposed to do or if there is a war coming?” I say to Kasey. She says “I don’t know girl, but we will figure it out. Hey, do you know why your eyes changed to a golden color?” “No, I don’t but I can ask Bellona”. “Is Bellona your wolf?” she asks me. “Yes, she is.” “Bellona are you there?” “Yes, young one?’ she says. “Why were my eyes golden?” “Your eyes were golden because I was in control. Unlike most werewolves you are closer to your primal instincts. Well I am, your wolf.” “Oh, that’s really neat, how come everybody else isn’t close to their primal instincts? I ask her. “Well, used to be they were back when werewolves were fairly new but, after many decades and mating with some humans, they have been somewhat domesticated, hence the black eyes instead of golden like yours. You sense are also better because of this too.” “that makes sense. Thank you, Bellona.” “Kasey, my eyes were golden because Bellona was in control and my wolf is closer to my primal instincts.” “Okay, that’s kinda weird but cool.” I stop and start looking at the border, trying to pinpoint the smell of the rogue. As I am looking, I hear a snap of a branch and I see the dark brown of eyes of a little wolf. I get up with my hair raised and pull back my lips to show my teeth and let out a growl. Kasey gets up and growls too, in the same direction I’m facing. The little wolf runs off. “That was a little rogue, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen one that small.” Kasey says. “When have you ever seen a rogue?” I ask her. She says, “On my dad’s laptop, of course.” “We should head back there could be more. We run back to the shifting grounds and change. On the drive back home, I fall asleep. I didn’t realize how tired I was. “Elle. Elle. Elle! Were here.” Kasey yells at me. “Ugh, I’m up!” We walk into the house making sure to lock the door, as soon as were in my room, I climb in my bed and pass back out. I feel the warm sun hitting my face, I open my eyes and grab my phone. It is one in the afternoon. I get up out of bed and go to my bathroom and take a nice long shower. I get out and put some grey sweat pants on and blue tank top. “Your finally out of the shower! Let’s go get some food!” Kasey jumps off my bed excitedly. Running down stairs, we smell cheeseburgers! Yum! I am so hungry! We make it down stairs and each grab one! “Hey dear, how was your shift last night.” “it was rough but good mom” “That’s good honey, what does your wolf look like?” she asks me. I look at Kasey nervously, I hate lying to my mom. “I am a black wolf with blue eyes.” “That’s great honey, your father and I want to go on a family run this weekend with you.” “sounds like a lot of fun mom but what about Kai?” “Kai will be staying with his friend next weekend.” ‘Oh okay, mom.” We finish our burgers and run back upstairs. “What am I going to do Kasey?” “you are going to pretend sick a few days before so you can’t go on a run.” “okay good plan Kasey?” School has been really boring this week but since its Wednesday, I must wake up acting sick tomorrow so I can’t go on the family run on Saturday. The day passes by really slow and finish my homework and decide to go to bed early. I wake up with the urge to shift, so I run outside fast and get as far away as I can from the house.
