Today is my 16th birthday and tonight I will shift for the very first time. There will also be a blood moon, which is rare for a wolfs first shift. I cannot wait for my first shift! I am so excited to meet my wolf. I am the Betas daughter of the Evergreen Pack, we are the third strongest pack in the world. Hopefully to be the second strongest after the IWW or International Wolf Warriors. The IWW is where all the packs send their strongest warriors and soon to be Alphas to compete in a series of events to decide which pack is the strongest. The world council started this about 50 years ago, to helped lessen wars against each other and to have a stronger front against the ever-growing rogue population. Our pack is in Montana, deep into the mountains. Our pack is known for our green eyes, hint the name of the pack. I have straight black hair and blue eyes, I am about 5’7.  I have a younger brother, Kai. He is two years younger than I am. He looks just like our mother with his red hair and blue eyes. Nobody knows where I got my black hair because my father has brown hair and his eyes are green. I have two best friends, Kasey and Jax. Kasey is 17, a she has beautiful chestnut hair and green eyes. Her wolf has a beautiful chestnut fur and green eyes, she of average height and build. Her wolf is a little bit more muscly than most wolves since she is the generals daughter. Jax is big and stout, but that is expected of the Alphas son. He has blond hair and green eyes too. His wolf is a beautiful sliver/grey and is also bigger than any other wolf except his fathers. That’s the alpha blood though, just like I am slightly bigger than the average wolf because I have beta blood. Even though I have beta blood in me and am the firstborn, I will not be next in line to be the beta. My younger brother, Kai will get that title. Instead I will be the future Lunas assistant, pretty much anyways. The female wolves are not allowed to take any dangerous high rank, such as Alpha, Beta, Third, or Warrior positions. However, the female wolves can be the pack doctors, nurses, teachers, and are expected to be mothers, caretakers, and keep the houses looking nice. If for some reason a female cannot reproduce, she is given the role to foster orphan pups and to help mothers in need at any time. Kasey and I both think that it sexist and unfair for females to still be treated this way, especially now in modern times. I mean we have all sorts of neat technology, like tablets, smartphones, alarm systems, vehicles with touchscreen radios and backup cameras. Its not like we are back in the 1800’s. Since Kasey and I are both females it also means we cannot compete in the IWW, which we so badly want to do. Kasey will be here around 9pm to help me prepare for my first shift tonight. For the first shift, you must have somebody with you that has already been shifting for a year. It can be anybody you want but they must be the same gender. I choose Kasey because she is my best friend and is honestly like a sister to me. I eat dinner with my family and of course they are worrying about my first shift and reminding what to do if I need any help. After dinner, looking at the clock, watching the time change from 630 to 631, I decide to go take nap until Kasey arrives. I wake up to somebody jumping on my bed and giggling, it must be Kasey. "Ugh will you quit jumping! I am enjoying my peaceful nap."i yell at her." Well I am here, and we must prepare for your shift lazybones." "I am not a lazybones and I wanted to be well rested for my first shift tonight." "Okay fine that is a good idea, were your dreaming about the perfect muscular and oh so dreamy Jax?"  Kasey says as she wiggling her eyebrows at me. "Ughh will you quit with that Kasey! I do not find him dreamy and perfect, he is also are best friend and that would be weird." "Let’s talk about your crush instead of Jax." "Only on one condition Elle, start getting you backpack ready." "Okay fine, Kasey." As I am putting an extra change of clothes, water bottles and of course snacks, we start talking about Adam. Adam is Kasey’s crush, who she hopes to be his mate. Adam is the third’s son, he is of average build, with blond hair and of course has green eyes, he’s 18 and will be graduating this year. Time fly’s by as were talking about mates and what to expect for my shift. The Alarm goes off its 1045pm, it’s time to start heading to the shifting ground. The shifting ground is on the on the far side of pack, close to the south border. "Bye mom, by dad, see you later!" I hear my parents yell "good luck honey", as were walking out the door. Were leaving at 11 because its an hour drive, we have a rather large pack territory. We finally reach and the grounds and its 1150pm. I’ve got ten minutes to prepare before I shift, and my nerves are finally starting to take over.
