Sebastian’s P.O.V
Watching through the glass windows, I watched as Maya crouched through the ground, holding a paper while staring at the contents of the paper as she gritted her teeth.
While coming back to the building, I could have sworn that I saw Ariana’s car but I dispersed the thoughts because if she had any little ounce of respect for herself, then she would never show herself in the same office where she had been humiliated before her friends.
I watched as Maya grabbed a lighter and if I would be honest, she kind of got me curious because how her eyes were reddened and at the same time, laughing kind of amused me.
Slowly, she burned the paper till it turned to ashes.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish”
As soon as she got to her feet, I pushed the door to the office open. “You aren’t asleep yet?”
All of a sudden, she rushed into my arms, bursting into tears. “Tell me that you would never leave me! That you would never abandon my child and me. If you leave me, I will kill myself”
I was kind of taken aback by her reaction, pulling her away from me slightly before cupping her cheeks in my hands. “Wait, calm down! You are carrying my child, why would I leave you?”
She shook her head. “No, you need to assure me that you would never leave me”
I sighed, pulling her back into my hands while stroking her in the hair gently. “I swear on my late grandfather’s grave that I would never abandon you”
Pressing my lips against her forehead, I muttered. “I promise.”

After Seven Years
One thing I would never comprehend was why Maya resorted to hurling insults at Anna, our daughter, just because she came third place in a racing game.
“Why didn’t you come first!” She yelled at her in a way that garnered the attention of the parents who were around the field.
I was filled with rage for Maya, carrying Anna in my arms at the same time while fixing Maya a stern gaze.
“The heck is wrong with you? She raced against 15 people and she came in third place and then the next thing you resorted to doing was lashing out at her! For the last time, stop raising your voice at Anna” I warned her sternly before smiling at Anna.
“You are the best, you ran like the fierce princess that you are. You are Daddy’s little princess. You are brave, smart, and perfect”
Anna shook her head, tears twinkling in her eyes in a way that shattered my heart into pieces. “Mummy said I was dumb. I am sorry for disappointing you Daddy”
My jaw clenched, shooting Maya a glare while she rolled her eyes to the back.
I dropped Maya to the ground, genuflecting before her. “What others think about you doesn’t matter. To me, you are the smartest and you rocked. I had my eyes only on you.” Slipping my hands inside my pocket, I handed her a little amount of money. “Why not get ice cream with your friends”
She glanced at Maya, fear evident in her orbs.
Turning her face back to me. “Nothing is going to happen, buy everything that you want”
Hugging me, Anna sprinted off and as soon as she left, I rose to my feet, staring daggers at Maya.
“Anna is my daughter and I don’t know how you were raised but you would never instill fear in her! Her coming in third place is something that you should be proud of!”
Maya rolled her eyes, clearly unbothered. “I birthed her! She is mine and she will always win. Those darned twins always win over her all the time. Both in school work and everything!”
I shook my head. “How is that an issue? They are kids, let them have fun”
Maya scoffed. “As long as I the mother do not lose, my daughter will never lose”
I heaved a sigh and if I were to be honest, I had enough of her already!
Anna came back in the company of the twins who came in first and second place. As soon as Maya laid eyes on them, she lamented even though her voice was toned down. “I swear, I am so done. Now I know that she doesn’t take after me most slightly because why is she friends with her enemies”
I palmed my forehead. “Brittle that tongue around those kids!”
Maya responded. “Whatever”
Anna chuckled, licking her ice cream while introducing the girls standing with her. “Daddy, these are my friends, Mila and Minnie. Mila is the one wearing blue and Minnie is the one wearing pink. They also have a necklace with their names”
However, as soon as my eyes landed on the identical twins who stood side by side with each other, something about them kind of struck them. They looked familiar and at the same time, it felt like they were just mere strangers.
“Thank you, sir” The two of them chorused in unison.
Before I could respond to the two girls who had their hair up in a ponytail, Maya crouched before them, hugging them tightly in a way that kind of made me raise a brow in confusion. “I would love to meet your parents!”
At that very moment, I knew that she was up to something so I pulled her up. “What are you trying to do”
“Trying to be friendly”
All of a sudden, the twins screamed with joy. “Mummy!”
They ran in the other direction while I followed them with my eyes but when my gaze fell on the woman that scooped them up, the phone that I held fell to the ground.
With my breath stuck in my throat, I removed the glasses around my eyes, stuttering. “A-Ariana.”
