4. Few Drinks

2469 Words
Nina’s POV. I haven’t used my bath yet, so I made a warm soapy bath. I hopped in and played some music as I relaxed in the bath. Last night, after my bath, it took me and Nevins about an hour to convince Asher. The get-together to chill has now turned out to be a party. Asher said that we could have a few drinks and invite only our friends over. But Isaac was to be in charge of the drinks. Asher knew very well that Isaac was the party boy. Isaac even seemed happy about it, since Asher would be working until ten tonight. As soon as Asher left, Isaac made a few phone calls. I started to get this feeling that he was going to invite some of his friends to chill instead of supervising the party. Nevins and I got the backyard ready. We set up a table under the undercover area for the drinks, while Isaac went to buy the drinks. I looked at our pool and I honestly didn’t know how some of the townspeople could even swim in this weather. I mean it's raining nearly all day and night, which is making it cold. Usually, I like to just watch movies and chill in this weather. But that was in every other place we’ve stayed when I didn’t have friends. Here I actually made some friends, even though it's been just a week. Something made me feel like I belong here and that my friends were my people. I was in my room looking through my walk-in robe to find something to wear for tonight. I texted Sally but she said she was going to be wearing bikinis. I told her it was too cold for that and she told me that I had better not cover up. So I put on a pair of bikinis and wore short shorts with a singlet. After I got dressed in my swimming suit, I headed to the kitchen and poured a shot glass of vodka. I found the vodka in one of the boxes when we unpacked last week. I knew it would have been Isaac’s from one of the previous places we stayed. He would throw a lot of parties until one went out of control and he got a big lecture from Asher. But that was when he was eighteen and going to high school. He has changed a lot since then. It was only three o’clock but I was trying to numb myself from the cold. “Are you serious?” I heard Nevins say “It's only three o’clock! Oh, what the hell, pour me a glass too” he said after he saw me shrug my shoulders. “Okay, we have a lot of drinks!” we heard Isaac say as the front door opened and he walked in. “How many people are you inviting?” Nevins asked Isaac when he saw all the bags with alcohol in them. “Well, I invited two of my friends from work,” he said. “But don't worry, we will stick to our area in the back. How about you two?” he asked. “Well, I only invited three but they will be arriving with Nina’s friends. Nina has eight all up so I guess that makes thirteen people all up?” Nevins said as he was counting his fingers to add all our friends together. “Okay, that’s good I bought this much alcohol then. Plus there are three of us, so eighteen” Isaac said. “This was just supposed to be a chill session with a few drinks and a swim type of party. Not get as drunk as you can at your friend's party.” I said, looking at Isaac and Nevins. “Hey, consider it a ‘welcome to our home. We are new to the town party. Besides, Asher said it's cool. He’s going to have a drink when he gets back from work. Just don’t invite people anymore. We don't want to get the attention of the police since we will have minors here. I’m just about to text Asher that there will be about twenty people here”, Nevins said as he pulled out his phone. I ended up pouring a third shot glass for Isaac and we took a shot of the vodka. Isaac and Nevins went up stairs to get dressed and came back looking all ready to party. I then started to feel like I was dressed to chill in my room. So I went up to my room and put on a red beachside dress. The dress had white flowers on it. I had a look in the mirror and it was good between casual wear to the beach kind of vibe. I made sure to put black tights underneath to stop anything from showing. As I walked down the stairs, the doorbell rang, so I went straight to it to open it. In walked Isaac’s friends and they took off to the back. Then, about ten minutes later, Nevins and my friends arrived. Nevins' friends went to the pool and started to swim while drinking. Sally sat on the stools in the kitchen along with Sam. Chris and Ryan stood up around the bench as they started to pour some drinks. James, Will and Logan grabbed a cup and a bottle and then walked straight to the back. “You’ve got a nice house and I can see you guys are still unpacking” Sally said before she downed her drink like water. “Yeah, it's actually my favorite house so far. You know with all the moving around,” I said before taking a sip of my vodka and pineapple mix. “So is Isaac your big brother?” Ryan said. “Yes and no, he's the second eldest. Asher is the eldest, he’s at work right now. Hopefully you guys meet him later” I said to Ryan. Sam’s phone started to ring and he answered it. “Hey man what’s up?” he said to the caller. “Tomorrow? OK what time?” I couldn’t hear what the other person was saying. “Okay, we are at a party right now but we will see you around three tomorrow afternoon, bye.” Sam finished the call. “So Mateo gets back at three tomorrow. I will go pick him up and he said he had no luck at all”. Sam said, looking at Sally. “No luck finding someone important to him”, he added. When he saw me, I was confused by what he said. I nodded my head, thinking it might be a family member he was trying to find. We all started walking towards the poolside area. Before I knew it, we were all playing drinking games and swimming in the pool. “Okay so Nina, Logan and James are going to be music partners and you and I are going to be partners' ' Chris said to me as I climbed out of the pool. “Cool” I said. “Alright so what do you say we chug it?'' Chris then said as my other friends surrounded us. “I am totally feeling tipsy right now. Maybe I should just stick to drinking out of a cup”, I said as I tried to find the right words. “Oh come on Nina. It's your house party”, Logan said, and everyone nodded their heads, agreeing with him. “Fine! Fill it up” I said. James took the beer pong to me and held the funnel up in the air. He handed me the tube part that I would drink from. I took deep breaths getting ready for the amount of alcohol I would consume in a minute. Will stood on a chair while Ryan and Sam got drinks ready to pass to Will. I was waiting for Logan to give the word to start chugging. “Five!” they all said at the same time. “Four!'' Now my brothers and their friends were all looking at me. “Three!” they all joined in the count down and I started to realize that Sally was recording this. “Two!” I took a deep breath in and out, before I had to start drinking. “One!” They finally said, I was flipped upside down by Logan and Chris. Thank the goddess Hecate, I put on tights under my dress. I was drinking like my life depended on it. “Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug” was all I heard. All of a sudden, the liquid stopped coming through and I was flipped back over. “One, Two, Three!” Everyone counted to see if I would vomit the alcohol. After they counted to three, I threw my hands in the air, celebrating my victory. Then everyone started cheering when they realized that I wouldn’t vomit. I looked at the table that had the empty cans and realized there was a variety of alcohol. They really did pour down the tube different types of alcohol. Well I guess I’m definitely going to feel a hangover tomorrow. “Yep we are related” I heard Isaac say and I couldn’t help but let out a laugh. It was now ten o’clock and I was not sure how I was still standing. But I felt like I was going to drop any second. Asher came home from work and everyone met my brother. It was going on until eleven in the evening, so everyone started leaving. I was finding it hard to walk up the stairs when Asher picked me up. He took me to my room and put me in bed. Before I knew it, I drifted into darkness. . . . . My phone rang so loud it caused me to wake up. My head was hurting, making me groan in pain and frustration. I grabbed my phone and saw a missed call from Ryan. I quickly checked the time and it was one in the afternoon. Damn, I really slept most of the day. My phone rang again and I answered. “Hey, beautiful! Are you alive?” Ryan said as his yelling caused my ear drums to throb and I let out another groan “ That's bad, huh? Well, if you're up to it, we will be going to the café to get something to eat. We just have to pick up Mateo from the airport. You want to come?” Ryan said, causing me to groan again. “Ryan, I am dying. I will see you at school tomorrow. Right now let me heal” I said, trying to make it sound like I was in so much pain. “Okay, see you tomorrow” Ryan said before I hung up. I quickly jumped up off my bed and headed for the bathroom and vomited into the toilet water. Damn! I really don’t remember much after the chugging I did. I heard my door open and heard footsteps coming into my bathroom. “Oh you poor thing.” It was Sally and she was laughing her guts out. “Sally? What are you doing here?” I asked. “Well, I fell asleep on your floor. I woke up around ten and made breakfast. Isaac and Nevins are downstairs dying as well” she said while rubbing my back as I let round two come out. I quickly washed my face, brushed my teeth, and then headed downstairs to eat. I smelt the bacon, egg, sausages, hash-brown and toast. “Well, don’t you look great” Asher said as he let out a laugh. “I am never drinking again!” I exclaimed. “You say that now but you will” Isaac said to me. Of course, he says the same thing every time he drinks and wakes up with a hangover. Before he knew it, he'd be at it again the following weekend. “Okay, I’m going to head off. I'll see you at school tomorrow” Sally said before she waved goodbye and walked out the door. I don’t know why but I swear I felt some sort of vibe going on between her and my brother. “So” I started to say as I ate my hash brown, “You want to tell me why I feel like you have something going on with my friend?” I said, looking at Isaac, “Who is seventeen, by the way”, I added. Asher and Nevins then looked at Isaac as if they had just put two and two together. “Okay fine! She’s my mate” he said, since he couldn't stand the tension. We all had our eyes wide open in shock at what he said. “What? But she’s into girls?” was my first response. I was feeling so confused. “Well, last night she said she liked both. She also said she is into me”, Isaac said, like it wasn’t a big deal. “Hang on, so you told her about us? And mates? And well everything?” Nevins asked the question that was on all our minds. “No I didn’t, I mean she’s human. I don’t think she would even believe me with all this supernatural stuff. She might think I'm crazy and talking a whole lot of nonsense”, he said. “Good! Don’t say anything to her until we can be sure that we can trust her”, Asher said. “So, how do you know she is your mate?” I asked the question. “You didn’t introduce me to any of your friends. So I did it myself. When I shook her hand I felt the sparks”, Isaac explained. I am just now realizing that I really did not introduce any of them. “Okay, so I know she’s your mate and all,” Asher said, looking at Isaac. “But it's for our own safety that we do not tell a soul that we are supernatural beings. Well, witch and warlocks to be exact”, Asher finished. “She and Sam turn eighteen in two weeks, just so you know. Also, I hope you two did not hook up last night!” I said as I looked at Isaac. “Don’t worry, I didn’t go there with her. We mostly just talked after I met her yesterday. Plus, she is a minor and I also know our law even though we might be the last of our kind”, he said. We all then sat there in silence just finishing our breakfast.
