Chapter 1: Morning Light and Silent Wounds
The morning sun crept over the horizon, painting the sky in soft shades of gold and pink. It was a beautiful start to the day, but inside the small cottage on the edge of the territory, sixteen-year-old Anna was still fast asleep, completely peaceful under her warm blanket.
"Anna, darling, get up!" her mother’s soft voice called out, breaking the quiet morning. "Don't you have things to do today, child?"
Anna pulled the blanket over her head and mumbled sleepily, "Please, Mom, just five more minutes... Why are you in such a rush?"
Her mother sighed gently, crossing the room to pull back the curtains. "You really sleep from dusk all the way into the morning. Everyone in our wolf community stays awake through the night, howling and running under the stars. And look at you—sleeping like a log."
Anna sat up, rubbing her eyes as frustration flared inside her. She looked at her mother with a frown. "You and your wolf community are ridiculous. And on top of that, their rules are even worse. If Uncle Daniel weren't around to protect us, the people from your pack would have torn you and me apart a long time ago anyway."
At those words, her mother went completely silent. A deep, heavy sadness filled the room, and years of unspoken regret shimmered in her eyes. She stood frozen, carrying the weight of a painful past she couldn't erase.
Seeing the look on her mother's face, Anna’s anger immediately melted away. She slipped out of bed, stepped over, and wrapped her arms around her mother in a tight hug.
"Okay, stop making that face," Anna murmured softly into her shoulder. "I'm wide awake now. What's for breakfast? Just don't tell me you made rabbit soup again—if you did, I'm throwing it straight out the window."
Her mother let out a small laugh, the tension leaving her shoulders as she smiled down at her daughter. "No, my princess. I made your favorite—toast with melted cheese. And we have peanut butter, too."
Anna grinned, her eyes lighting up. "Hmm, okay... but how about a little chicken stew later, Mom?"
"Alright," her mother agreed with a gentle nod. "I'll ask your Uncle Daniel to bring some chicken for you, and I'll whip up something special later today. Now go freshen up and get ready for school."
"School is so boring," Anna said, rolling her eyes. "I think it would be better if we actually went out into the human world. People are so developed there. I should go there someday."
"Don't even try, Anna," her mom warned, her voice tight. "I listen to everything you want, right? Why are you never satisfied?"
Anna snapped back, her frustration boiling over. "I'm just so fed up with everything here. I feel disgusted by the people here. I feel like I don’t belong here—and honestly, neither do you. The way we live is more like humans than wolves anyway. "
Seeing her mother's shoulders tense, Anna let out a bitter sigh. "Are you going to start crying again? Fine, I'd better just go to your ridiculous school."
As Anna stepped out of the bedroom, her mom, Maya, gripped the edge of the bed tightly. Clutching the wood, Maya painfully whispered, "Sorry... sorry. Everything happened because of me."
Suddenly, a loud voice echoed through the house. "Where is our princess Anna?"
It was Daniel, Maya’s cousin. Maya wiped her eyes and walked out to the main area. There, she saw Anna sitting at the breakfast table, eating quietly without acknowledging or responding to Daniel.
Daniel looked over at Maya, noticing the deep sadness on her face. Turning back to the girl, Daniel asked softly, "My princess, did Mom scold you again?"
Anna didn't look up. "Uncle, I’m in a bad mood, so don't push it. I'd better go—school is late." She packed her bag and walked out the door without looking back, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
"Don't worry, everything will be ok," Daniel said comforting Maya.
Maya nodded, but her heart was aching and filled with immense fear.
At school, Anna had only one friend: Tiger. Tiger was an Alpha from a prominent and wealthy family, but he was constantly afraid of everything. Because he hated fighting and preferred to avoid conflict, people bullied him. He was terrified of getting even the smallest scratch or seeing a tiny drop of blood on himself. Instead, he was completely obsessed with self-care and maintained an intense skin-care routine that surpassed anyone else's, making him look like both a diva and remarkably handsome.
Tiger and Anna were drawn to each other because neither fit in. The rest of the school avoided Anna, viewing her as an outsider who had slipped into their pack for no valid reason. Rumors constantly circulated about her, calling her broken and mocking her for growing up without knowing her father's identity.
