Unconditional Love
As I sat in the living room, I heard my grandmother's voice echoing through the hallway. I couldn't resist the temptation to peek through the window to see who was at the door. As I looked out, I saw my grandmother standing there, looking visibly angry. She has this short, curly hair that is black with hints of gray, giving it a salt-and-pepper look. She wears big glasses that sit comfortably on the bridge of her nose, giving her a studious and intellectual appearance. The glasses accentuate her eyes, which have a stern and disapproving look.
Then I noticed that my grandfather was standing in front of her, holding a pen with a mischievous smile on his face. He has a well-defined and strong facial structure. His square jawline is covered by a rugged beard, giving him a distinguished and mature appearance. His skin is weathered and slightly sun-kissed, a testament to a life spent outdoors. His cheekbones are high and prominent, adding to his rugged and handsome appearance.
His nose is straight and slightly pointed, a feature that gives him a regal look. His eyebrows are thick and bushy, adding to his expression of mischievousness when he smiles.
"Grandpa, what's going on?" I asked as I walked up to the front door.
"Your grandma doesn't want to change the numbers on the lottery sheet again," he replied, still grinning.
My grandmother shot him a stern look. "Don't you dare change it! Those numbers appeared in my dreams."
My grandfather rolled his eyes. "You've been talking about these numbers and been beating for these numbers many times, but did something good happen?" he asked.
"It's still a 'NO,' you hear me? NO!" my grandmother exclaimed, her voice firm.
My grandfather just shook his head with disbelief. "Whatever! You always have the say with everything anyway." With that, he walked away from her in frustration.
I could see the disappointment on his face as he walked into the house. My grandmother, on the other hand, seemed relieved that she had stood her ground.
As she slowly nodded her head, I could tell that she knew it was the right thing to do. After all, those numbers had come to her in a dream, and she believed that they were the key to winning the lottery.
I walked over to her and put my hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, Grandma," I said. "I'm sure those numbers will come up eventually."
She smiled at me and patted my hand. "Thank you, dear," she said. "I just have a feeling that we're going to win this time."
As we both turned to get into the house, I couldn't help but marvel at their relationship. Despite their differences in beliefs and ideologies, they were still deeply in love after all these years.
My grandfather was a man of science, who believed that everything could be explained through logical reasoning. My grandmother, on the other hand, was a deeply religious woman who believed in the power of prayer and faith. She believed that dreams were a way for God to communicate with her. When she dreamed of those specific numbers, she was convinced that it was a sign from God, telling her to use them to win the lottery.
"Your grandpa is such a stubborn man. If he wasn't good-looking back then, I wouldn't have married him."
" But he was" right grandma?
"Yes, he was." However, she added with a chuckle, "But he's too old now!"
"Oh Grandma..." I smiled how she still showed love and appreciation for my grandpa.
As I watched my grandmother express her love and appreciation for my grandpa, a smile formed on my lips. "Oh Grandma," I thought to myself. Even after all these years, she still held him dear to her heart, despite his stubbornness and quirks.
It was touching to see how much they loved and cared for each other. Despite their differences and occasional disagreements, their love had only grown stronger over time. They were a true example of what it meant to love someone unconditionally.
Their disagreements often stemmed from these fundamental differences in their beliefs, but it never seemed to affect their love for each other. They had been married for over fifty years, and their love had only grown stronger over time.
Later that day, I saw my grandpa in the kitchen reading a newspaper.
"How are you grandpa?" I asked.
"I'm fine dear." He answered with soft voice.
Are you still mad at her? I asked.
He slowly moved the newspaper away from his face, his hands gently placing it on the side of the table. As he did so, his eyes met mine, and a small smile appeared on his face and said...
"Darling, you know. As we get older, those are just little things that don't matter anymore and as an old man, I don't have much time left to live on this world just to spend over hatredness or guilt. Your grandma is my world and my everything. Her happiness is my happiness. He smiled
"We might fight over those trivial things, but those are just usual for couples just like us. Your grandma is really a headstrong but kind woman."
"She's full of compassion and live her life righteously. She's the reason why my life was full of love and I thank God for letting me growing old with her, I can't imagine living this life without her honey. We might be old, but my love for her is as a diamond."
As he gazed at me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and respect for my grandfather. His love for my grandmother had not diminished over the years, but had only grown stronger with time.
The next day...
It was early in the morning, Lily was out in the garden having her breakfast. Her face was illuminated by the soft morning light, highlighting her delicate features.
She had an oval-shaped face with a slightly rounded chin. Her skin was fair and flawless, with a subtle pinkish hue on her cheeks. Her eyebrows were well-defined and gently arched, framing her large and expressive dark black eyes. Her eyelashes were long and curled, adding to the allure of her gaze.
Her hair was a rich black hair, cascading down her back in loose waves. She had a few strands that fell in front of her face, which she tucked behind her ear absentmindedly.
Overall, Lily's facial features exuded a natural beauty and unshakeable charm. Her serene expression and soft features made her seem approachable and easy to talk to.
As she took another bite of her sandwich, her lips parted to reveal a set of pearly white teeth. She had naturally pink and full lips, with a slightly thick bottom lip.
Her peaceful morning was abruptly interrupted by her grandma's high-pitched voice calling out her name.
"Lily! Lily!
She swiftly put down her sandwich and made her way to the patio, where her ecstatic grandmother was waiting. As soon as she reached her, Her grandma Lilibeth could hardly contain her excitement as she revealed her lottery win.
Really grandma?
Yes, I won! I won with a 5 lottery number combination Lily! Her eyes got bigger as her grandma eagerly displayed the winning combination of numbers, 7, 30, 18, 31, and 52, with only the number 29 missing from the jackpot. The thrill in her grandma's voice was palpable, and Lily couldn't help but feel a sense of joy for her grandmother.
Her grandma then ask where his grandfather at.
"Honey, where's your granpa? I'll show him that I was right. That hardheaded old man, he won't believe me. Look who's right now huh? "
"Probably he's in the bathroom grandma."
"Okay dear, I'll go ahead."
"John! John! Come here and see what I won!" her grandma yelled.
Lily couldn't help but chuckle to herself. She smiled and couldn't help to think that her grandma is such a character. She always had a fiery spirit and loved to prove her point. Lily admired her grandmother's tenacity and wished she could be as strong as her one day. She continued eating her sandwich and sipping her tea while waiting for her grandmother to return.
After a few minutes, her grandmother called out to her frantically.
Lily! Lily! Lily!
She knew something bad had happened.
Lily quickly jumped from her seat and rushed to where her grandmother was. As she approached her, she could see the look of panic and distress on her face.
"What's wrong, grandma? What happened?" Lily asked, her heart racing with worry.
"It's your grandpa, he's on the bathroom floor and I can't lift him up! We need to call for help!" her grandmother exclaimed, tears welling up in her eyes.
Lily's mind raced as she tried to think of what to do. She knew she had to act fast. "Okay, grandma, let's call for an ambulance. Everything will be okay, we just need to stay calm," she said, trying to reassure her grandmother.
As she dialed the emergency services, she couldn't help but think about how quickly things can change. Just a few moments ago, they were celebrating her grandmother's lottery win, and now they were facing a crisis.
Lily took a deep breath and tried to focus on the present moment, knowing that her grandpa's life was in her hands.
As they rushed to the nearest hospital in the ambulance, Lily could feel the tension and fear in the air. Her grandmother was crying uncontrollably, pleading with her grandfather to hold on.
"John hold on, hold on okay? Please stay with me"
Lily looked over at her grandmother, she could see the fear and desperation in her grandmother's eyes, and it broke her heart. She knew that her grandmother and grandfather had been together for long, and the thought of losing him was unbearable. She couldn't help but feel helpless. Her grandmother was still crying, and she didn't know how to comfort her. .
After arriving at the hospital, Lily and her grandmother anxiously waited for any news about her grandfather's condition. The doctors rushed her grandfather into the emergency room, and Lily's grandmother was beside herself with worry. Hours passed by, and the doctors finally came out to speak with them. However, the news wasn't what they were hoping for.
"Are you the family of Mr. Hernandez?" The doctor asked.
My grandmother went forward
"Yes, we are. I'm the wife doctor. How's my husband doctor?" Is he okay now? My grandma said, filled with anxiety and concern.
The doctor's faced changed and tried to contemplate himself.
" Mrs. Hernandez, we did our best, but it's too late now. His artery broke which causes internal hemorrhage." I'm sorry to say this but he's gone now due to aneurysm.
The doctor's words hit Lily's grandmother like a ton of bricks. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her husband, the love of her life, was gone. Tears streamed down her face as she tried to process the news.
"No...no...this can't be happening," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Lily stood by her grandmother's side, holding her hand tightly as she tried to comfort her.
"I'm so sorry for your loss, Mrs. Hernandez," the doctor said softly.
Her grandmother looked at the doctor, tears still falling down her cheeks.
"I can't believe he's gone. We've been together for over 50 years," she said, her voice choked with emotion.
Lily could feel the pain and sadness radiating from her grandmother. She couldn't imagine the pain of losing someone she loved so much.
As they left the hospital, Lily's grandmother was still in shock. She couldn't believe that her husband was gone forever.
"He was my rock, my everything. What am I going to do without him?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Now, I understand why we could never win the lottery as he won't be around when it happened ."
Lily squeezed her grandmother's hand, trying to be strong for her.
"We'll get through this together, grandma. We'll get through this," she said.
Her grandmother nodded, tears still falling down her face.
"Burial day"
Lilibeth was standing in front of her husband's casket, wearing a long black dress with a matching black hat. Her eyes were swollen, and her face was pale, showing her deep sadness and grief. The mourning attire she wore conveyed her mourning to the world. As she looked at her husband being laid to rest, she whispered to herself,
"John, my love, I will always love you. Wait for me on the other side. It won't take long and I'll see there. Goodbye for now and rest in peace, my everything."
She leaned over the casket, tears streaming down her face. She stayed there for a few moments, lost in her grief and memories, before reluctantly pulling away and joining her family and friends who had come to pay their respects.
Lily was there to comfort her grandma, she made sure that she'll know that she still has her as her support.
After the ceremony ended, she walked with her grandma towards the car, but she soon realized that the sky had become dark and gloomy, hinting that it was going to rain. She quickly realized that she had forgotten the umbrella and needed to go back and get it.
"Grandma, you go ahead and get in the car. I need to go back and grab the umbrella that I left on the chair," Lily said. Lilibeth nodded and made her way to the car."
Lily arrived at her grandfather's grave amidst heavy rain. Many chairs were still scattered around, and people were arranging them. As she headed her way to a chair to grab her forgotten umbrella, a lightning suddenly struck the tree in front of her, causing her to lose consciousness.
