Chapter 1
*Rieka* "So I'd all be expecting the submission of your projects by the weekend." Mrs. Caitlin announced and everyone gasped in relief because just like me… Not everyone had finished with their projects yet. I just wish I could skip that boring project but that could only happen if I was actually given an internship course. "Besides, the summer internship has been given out to graduating students, I wish y'all success in all your endeavors." Mrs Caitlin blessed and walked out of the house the moment bells for recess were rang. Oops... Sorry for my rude and bad manners, I didn't even give y'all a choice to defend yourselves up quickly. My name is Rieka Rudolph and I'm a 20-year-old final-year student at Mystery High Academy. I know the name of the school sounds weird and manipulative but that was the same way things were in Mystery High Academy my primary aim of coming here anyways. Right from the time I was really little, my love for supernatural creatures in books knew no bounds that it became offensive to our mothers. Mother had wanted me to study medicine, banking, or music... Any of those lucrative businesses but I instead chose to be a philosopher. "Hey boomer, have you checked your summer internship letter?." Heedah yelled as she tugged my hair pulling me from an ocean of thoughts and saving me from drowning. " I haven't received it. " I answered and stood up quietly and began packing my bags when people came around, I ran away. Weird to them!!! But intelligent to me! "Well then, I guess you forgot to slide your hands through in the mailbox and you would have missed it, so I want you to be signed and read it out for you. '' Heedah screeched in excitement as her eyes gelled a light that glinted brightly. "You found my internship letter? Give it. " I yelled as I stretched my hands to take it even if I knew that it would be a frantic and futile effort anyway. "Never, now s**t it so you'll be hearing the news anyway," Heedah warned as she brought out an envelope from her bag. An envelope that determined my whole life! An envelope that would enable me to show my parents that all my years of studying mythology and supernatural creation weren't a waste even if they kicked hard against it. The minute Heedah was done reading the contents, I didn't know if I was to be excited or anxious. My summer internship course was to be practiced in an ancient library that I had heard was freaky and creepy. Why do investigations in such a creepy place when supernatural creatures don't exist?? Regardless, I had no alternative but to ready myself and steel my resolve for whatever awaited me. This also meant temporarily parting from my dearest friend Heedah and my parents, to return before they even realized my absence. After much preparations, the day finally arrived and I relocated but the minute I got to the remote area I would be living whilst gathering information about the library. I bade my mum and dad together with Heedah and everything I had known to love goodbye as my flight was announced and I boarded. Mexico, here I come!! As the plane conquered gravity and accelerated into the air, I took one more look at the place I had once called home. My mum! My dad! My friends! Heedah! I missed them all already but it was just for the moment, soon enough I would reunite with them all. Precisely, after summer! The twelve-hour trip to Mexico wasn't an easy thing as all I could do was eat and sleep. That's basically what everyone else was doing anyway but my heart skipped a few beats when I heard the hostess announce our arrival in Mexico. When the plane went down the runway and finally landed successfully, we all alighted and I went to grab my luggage. As I stood there, lost and uncertain of my destination, my savior arrived. A round of applause echoed from behind me, signaling her arrival. "Welcome to Mexico, Miss Rieka. You must confess... The air seems better here." I saw an unknown woman approaching me as these words fell out of her mouth. I guess she's the one that's my new guide! She looked quite energetic and humorous and quite a talker but if our journey to wherever my lodge was supposed to be was going to be a successful one, she had to stop talking. Well, fortunately, we arrived at my new house which was in the center of nowhere but damn close to the library and I appreciated it. I wouldn't get to the library every morning, the only thing that made me feel bored and eerie immediately was that... Given the remoteness of this location, forging new friendships may prove challenging. Yet, I'm perfectly content with that! I was shown to the library and then left alone in my solitude as she promised to check up on me once in a while. And I repeat… Once in a while! Adapting to the new, ancient library wasn't much of a problem as I loved historical books but then.. having a lot of cleaning to be done, I resolved to tackle it on the following day. The next day by 8:00 am, I was already at the library, doing the cleaning and also dusting books. But I was really slow because I seemed to check out every book that I dusted till I cast my eyes upon a book that caught my fancy. "ANCIENT PROPHECIES." I immediately dropped the brush I was holding and opened the book but the first page caught my eyes and made me freeze in terror. This isn't me, is it?
