CHAPTER THREE
As Enzo slowly opened his eyes, the last remnants of his nightmare faded away. He found himself lying on the cold, stone floor of the dungeon, his limbs stiff and aching. He sat up slowly, trying to shake off the grogginess of sleep. As he looked around, he saw that he was alone in the cell, and the only light came from a small window high up on the wall. He was deep underground, far from the world above.
As he sat there, the reality of his situation began to sink in. He was a prisoner, trapped in a dungeon, and there seemed to be no way
...no way out. The door to the cell was made of thick, solid wood, and the only window was too high for him to reach. He felt a rising sense of panic, and he began to pace around the small space, his heart racing. There had to be a way out, there had to be!
"Leave, Enzo. There is danger, something you need to deal with." The voice was soft and melodic, but it was tinged with urgency. He had no idea who it belonged to, but he felt a strange sense of trust. It sounded like the girl he had met on the beach, Adriana.
As he sat up and looked around the dungeon, Enzo felt a sense of panic rising in his chest. How would he ever escape this place? The walls were solid stone, and the door was made of thick, heavy wood. He felt like a trapped animal, his heart pounding in his chest. The thought of spending the rest of his life in this dark, cold place was unbearable. He had to find a way out, but he had no idea how.
As if on cue, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, growing louder and louder. The footsteps were followed by the creak of a heavy door being opened, and then the unmistakable glow of lantern light shone into the dungeon. Enzo raised his arm to shield his eyes from the sudden brightness. When he lowered it, he saw a tall, imposing figure standing in the doorway, flanked by two guards. It was King Adler, his face as stern and cold as the dungeon itself. Beside him was a young man, Prince Liam.
"Look at you, boy," Prince Liam sneered, his eyes raking over Enzo's haggard appearance. "You look weak this morning. Perhaps your charms and strength have failed you."
The king said nothing, but he fixed Enzo with a cold, calculating gaze.
"You are a threat to my son with your powers and I cannot allow you to remain in this village unless the people will worship you forgetting their future king, Liam." the king said, his voice steely.
"I will provide you with a sum of gold, enough to start a new life elsewhere. But you must never return, and you must never speak of your time here or of Prince Liam."
Enzo felt as if he were being choked. He didn't want to leave the only home he'd ever known.
Enzo took a deep breath and found his voice. "I have done nothing wrong to Prince Liam," he said, his words shaking but firm. "I have no reason to leave this place, and I have no desire to start a new life elsewhere. I don't understand why you would think the people would worship me - I am no one special, and I have no desire to be seen as such."
The king's face was impassive, his expression unreadable.
"The people will worship you because you are different," he said, his tone grave. "Because of the power you possess."
"I have nowhere to go," he said, his eyes filled with determination.
The king turned to the captain of the guard. "Do what is necessary to persuade him," he said, his voice cold and calculating. "But nothing too severe. I don't want him broken, just...receptive."
Liam stood behind his father, watching the scene unfold with an eager grin on his face. He seemed to relish the thought of Enzo being punished, and Enzo's stomach twisted with fear.
The groans of Enzo's pains filled the dungeon but he didn't change his mind.
As the king was about to speak, the door to the throne room burst open and a guard rushed in, his face pale with fear. "Your Majesty," he panted, "the village is under attack!"
The king frowned. "What kind of attack?" he demanded.
"It's a sorrowsnatch but this one is a lot different ," the guard said. "It has many legs and it's eating the children!"
Liam jumped to his feet. "I'll go!" he exclaimed. "I'll destroy the monster and save the children!" He looked eager for a fight, his eyes shining with excitement.
Enzo heard a voice echoing in his head
"You need to leave," it's same voice from when he woke up.
Enzo heard the king's voice, muffled by the thick stone walls. "I'm afraid we have no more use for him," he said, and then his footsteps faded away.
The cell was silent, and Enzo sat down on the damp floor, trying to control his breathing. He was trapped, and he had no idea what would happen next.
Suddenly, he heard a low growl coming from the shadows. He froze, his heart racing. What was in the cell. There were little things coming out from every corner.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang as the chains around Enzo's wrists snapped, and he felt a surge of energy rushing through his body. He could feel his strength growing, and he knew he had to use it to escape. He tore off the creatures with his bare hands. With a roar, he tore the door of the dungeon off its hinges and ran into the night.
The moon was full, and its light illuminated the forest around him. He could hear the growls of the monster, getting closer and closer. He raced towards the river, desperate to reach it..
When Enzo reached the river, he saw Prince Liam standing in the water, a sword in his hand. The prince was bleeding, and the monster was advancing on him, snarling and growling. The king was watching from the shore, his face twisted in fear. Several guards lay dead on the ground, their bodies mangled and broken.
It was clear that the monster was too strong for the prince to fight alone. But Enzo was filled with newfound strength, and he knew he had to help. Without a moment's hesitation, he jumped into the water and charged at the monster.
With a roar of rage and pain, Enzo lunged forward, his sword raised above his head. The monster recoiled, its massive body coiling like a snake, ready to strike. In a flash of motion, the two clashed, their bodies locked in a fierce struggle. The air was filled with the sound of their roars and the clang of steel on steel.
For what seemed like an eternity, they fought, neither one willing to give an inch. But finally, Enzo saw an opening, and he seized it. With a single, decisive blow, he brought his sword down on the monster's head
The crowd that had gathered on the shore erupted in cheers, hailing Enzo as a hero. As the cheers for Enzo grew louder, the king felt a knot of fear and anger twist in his chest. He knew he had to act. As he watched the people's adoration of Enzo, he knew that the young man was on the path to becoming a cult figure. The people would look to him for guidance, for protection. And in time, they would even begin to worship him. The king could see it all unfolding before his eyes, like a terrible vision of the future. He had to act, to stop Enzo before it was too late. But how?
Enzo went to inspect the body, he was shocked to see that it had transformed into a woman. He moved closer to see who or what it was. He widened his eyes in amazement.
Adriana! Her eyes were closed, and she was unresponsive. What did this mean? Was she really a monster?
