“What’s wrong?” Aubrey followed his gaze to Emma, who had already reached them by the time. Aubrey stepped back, her eyes widening. “Emma? Wow—what are you doing here?”
Emma was wearing a simple black dress, short and fitted, her hair styled in an updo with strands framing her face. She wore sheer black lace stockings and red lipstick that complemented everything. Aubrey’s mouth was open in surprise.
“Wow,” she whispered. “You’re really looking the part.”
“Of course.” Emma touched her neck delicately, drawing their eyes to her exquisite silver necklace. “I was specially invited by someone very important.”
