Episode 6 - Mental Storm

 As the class prepared for their next lesson, it was obvious that students would flock over the beautiful transferee. Nobody even went to talk to Maki because they see him as an oddball, especially from what happened earlier. Maki was isolated from the rest of the class but one student approached to him and struck a conversation.

Classmate #1: Hello, Mr. Montaire. I'm the class representative. My name is Leo Lionheart. Orange - Red Essence - First Stage. I wield the Beast Magic. As you can see from my appearance, I'm a Beastman of Lion descent. Nice to meet you.

Leo Lionheart had brownish orange hair that seemed to resemble a lion's mane that covered his neck. He had yellow irises with black pupils and a triangle shaped nose. He stood six feet and six inches tall, and a body build that excudes pure masculinity, as if he was the Man among men. His facial features somewhat resembled that of a lion but was still enough to be called a Handsome beast.

Maki: Hello, Mr. Class Rep. Nice to meet you too. But please just call me Maki. Mr. Montaire sounds pretty stiff. We're all still classmates here.

Leo: But a proper address is must in a proper class.

Maki: Hmm. "Proper", eh? I don't see anyone proper here except for you and the haughty "princess" over there. (points at Aerolith) And I would've agreed to what you said if you were from a Noble family. Are you a Noble, by any chance? 

Leo: Huh? Oh, me? C-Come on, m-man. We're all plebs here, you know? Just don't forget about what I said earlier, alright? Ah aha ahaha.

Maki: Hmm? 

Leo: W-What? Something on my face?

Maki: Hmm. Are you sure you're not a Noble? Mr. Lionheart, sir?

Leo: Eh? U-uhh? (dodging the intense, piercing stare from Maki) Uhh?

Suddenly a girl noticed that Maki was somewhat bullying Leo and thus, tried to scold Maki.

Girl: Oi! What ya think ya doin' to our Sir Leo? Why don't ya pick somebody yer own size?

Maki heard a loud yapping voice near him but when he looked around, he did not see anybody.  

Maki: Hmm? I wonder where that voice is coming from?

Girl: Oi! On yer left!

Maki turned to his left, he saw a foot tall girl, with butterfly wings. Actually, he already saw the girl but just deliberately ignored the girl for fun.

Maki: Oh, there you are! I was getting scared because I keep hearing someone saying something to me but I can't seem to find them. No wonder. You're the size of a ruler.

Girl: What'd ya say, ya punk?! Believe it or not, I can throw ya outta that window!

Leo: Hey, stop that both of you! It's almost time for the next class. If this keeps up, we're gonna be late. We don't wana be late for class on our first day of school, right?

Girl: I understand, Sir Leo. Please excuse me. (acts cute then turns to Maki and signaled him that meant, "I'll be watching you."

Maki: Sheesh! Talk about split personality. That girl took plasticism ( act of being nice to friends while being mean to others) to the next level. Who was that anyway?

Leo: (sigh) Her name's Flora Fairwink. She's a hybrid of Elf and Nymph. Some say she's a very tall person but she didn't find her appearance cute, she used some kind of magic to shrink herself down and gave herself those wings for transportation convenience. But be warned though, she may be small, but she's very fast. She's probably the fastest in our class.

Maki: Why probably?

Leo: Because of Ms. Aerolith.

Maki: What's got that to do with her?

Leo: She told us her Magic, didn't she? She possesses Wind Magic. Wind Magic is the fifth fastest magic according to experts. Fourth is Sound Magic, third is Light Magic, second is Teleportation Magic and first is the rumored magic of God called Time Magic. Ms. Flora does not possess Wind Magic but she uses Plant Magic. But even without Wind Magic, she was still the fastest to finish the speed test during our entrance exam. Come to think of it, how was your entrance exams? I know both of you are transferees, but an entrance exam is still a must.

Maki: Well, I'll leave that up to your imagination. Anyway, we're going to be late if we keep dawdling here. Let's go.

Leo: Oh right. Hey, wait for me! (Strange. If Ms. Flora was fast, how did she not notice Maki's entrance? Furthermore, she would have been the first one to notice his presence. I'll think of that later. Class comes first.)

Maki's classmates transferred to the Meditation Hall. When they arrived, they saw an old man with shabby clothing sitting in a cross-legged position. His long, white beard reached the floor indicating that he has lived for a very, very long time. They saw sitting mats on the floor and decided to sit there while waiting for the old man to wake up or until the teacher arrives. Shortly, the bell rang and the old man woke up. As soon as the old man opened his eyes, a stream of Mental Force swept the whole room. The whole class tried to protect themselves because the Mental Force's concentration was too much for their Upper Dan Tian to handle. Some students fainted and some got seriously injured. Nobody noticed that Maki was unaffected from the maelstrom of Mental Force and still was sitting upright. When the maelstrom stopped, the old man was nowhere to be found but in his place was a tall, male teacher. The teacher gave off a feeling of holiness and warmth. He had a glowing halo above his head which meant that he was from the Angel Race. The teacher had two pairs of wings and was floating just above the position of where the old man used to be. When he descended to the ground, he waved his hand once and a stream of holy light lit the entire room. Everyone including those that were knocked unconscious and seriously injured were completely healed. It was as if they were never injured in the first place and the those that were knocked out shortly.

Teacher: Hello, class. I am Michael Angelo, your teacher in Upper Dan Tian training. I'm an Angel of the second order which can be seen from my two pair of wings. But before I start, I would like to apologize about what happened earlier. I was in deep meditation and was startled when the school bell rang, resulting in a meditative backlash. And that will be the first rule to remember when you try to meditate in the future. Is everyone up and about?

Everyone: Yes, Sir Angelo!

Mr. Angelo: I'm impressed. Some of you withstood the backlash earlier. I see a promising future in your class. But those who got injured and/or passed out, no need to be discouraged. It just meant that their mental prowess is more developed than the average person. In short, they are Prodigies. Okay. Now, I'll start the class and take note of the important parts of my discussion. I will only entertain questions, not repeats. Memorization is also a kind of training for Mental Force. So the more you Memorize, the more you Mental Capacity will improve. Which will result in your Upper Dan Tian to be able to store more Mental Force. Understood?

Everyone: Yes, sir!

Mr. Angelo: Very Good! Now first and foremost is to understand what is our Upper Dan Tian. I assume that Ms. Swanna has already given a bit of explanation about this but I'll say it one for time for your sake. Our Upper Dan Tian is located on our forehead. Its function is to store Mental Force. Mental Force is used when we release our Special Skill. Since Special Skills are connected to our brain, the stronger the image you have of your skill, the stronger and fiercer you skill will be. Suffice to say, it will also consume more Mental Force. There are many kinds of training to improve our Upper Dan Tian but the most basic one is Meditation. Meditation requires us to relax in our most comfortable position, like the Indian Sitting position you saw earlier. 

Student: Sir, I have question. When you said relax in our most comfortable position, does it include lying down?

Mr. Angelo: Good question! The answer to that is no. You'll go to sleep if you do it like that. Sitting is the most basic while moving is the most difficult. Only a few people can meditate while moving, and even more fewer people can meditate while doing intense exercise or movement. You will have to practice meditating while doing intense training by yourself after you reached the Indigo - Blue Essence - First Stage because at that time, you will be outside depending on your luck to find cultivation resources. And you will die outside without even knowing who killed you if you still can't move while meditating. You will graduate from this university after you have reached the Green - Blue Essence - First Stage. So practice hard. But since this is your first time, I'll give each one of you a book, so read them thoroughly and understand them. Much better if you can memorize all what is written from the ten thousand pages. Those who are able to memorize it all will have the most improved Upper Dan Tian and will have more purer Mental Force.  Remember, the purer your Mental Force is, the stronger the effect of your Special Skill. Now, do the Indian Sitting position like this and close your eyes first. I'll release some of my Mental Force so that you will have an idea on how a pure Mental Force should feel when it enters your Upper Dan Tian. Ready? Now, relax your mind and feel the Mental Force I released.

Everybody sat cross-legged and closed their eyes. They relaxed their mind and tried to feel their teacher's Mental Force. Later, some students became uncomfortable because the Mental Force is too overbearing for them. After thirty minutes of meditation, a student suddenly had a breakthrough. It was Aerolith. She advanced from Yellow - Orange Essence - Second Stage directly to the Yellow Essence - First Stage. It was said that when she broke through, there was tornado above the university. Everyone in the university was about to panic when Mr. Angelo notified everyone through telepathy that one of his students suddenly had a Tribulation Ascension    . After Aerolith finished her breakthrough, the aura around her gave off an eerie feeling. As if to signify the calm before the storm. Luckily nothing major bad happened. When Aerolith woke up, she felt like she was full of energy. But Mr. Angelo suddenly told her not to get too much excited because...

Mr. Angelo: Be careful, Ms. Aerolith. I understand that you are excited because of your major breakthrough but you will die if you don't consolidate your energy first. It would have been fine if you just broke through a Stage but you broke through a Color Advancement. Quick! Calm yourself and start to stabilize your rampaging Mental Force inside the Upper Dan Tian. And everyone, class is over for today. You can go your next class in the Power Gym. Tell your teacher that Ms. Aerolith will be a little late because of me. And whoever is the class representative of this call, go to the infirmary and inform the rescue and explain to them the situation. Understand? Now, go!

Everyone: Yes, sir!

Aerolith hurriedly sat cross-legged because she was starting to feel that her Upper Dan Tian was unstable. Mr. Angelo sat in front of Aerolith and put his hands near her forehead while simultaneously releasing his Holy Light Special Skill. This is the skill that completely healed the students earlier. Mr. Angelo was shocked when he finished diagnosing Aerolith's Upper Dan Tian. It was more chaotic than he had originally thought. It felt like a storm calamity that would destroy everything in its area of effect. He tried to help Aerolith by stabilizing her ramaging Mental Force but...

Mr. Angelo: Oh no!

BOOM! An explosion was heard throughout the university.
