1901 Words
The three of them happily having their conversation about how they met and how they became close friends. One asked after another like an endless flow of the stream. They really looked like they had not seen each other for so long and missed each other to death, wanting to catch up in each other's life and experiences with those years they were not together. Unknown to them, except from Geneva, Jerry had been giving a strange look to the woman. Jerry's eyes slightly turned red, hatred filled in his eyes as he looked at her. His lips pursed so tight, jaws moving inside his cheeks He appeared as if he wanted to cry and had an urge to choke the woman in front of him at the same time. 'What's wrong with this guy? Did he not forgive me all this time? Want to settle score with me? Come on, if your eyes are knives, I would have died long ago." Geneva thought in mind as she kept putting food on the little kid's plate while listening to the men's conversation. Doing those things at the same time, Geneva still managed to do it without flaws. She remained calm and of course pretended that nothing bothered her. She acted as if there's no person looking at him as if she gave him millions of money. Jerry had no idea that Geneva was noticing his weird look. Subconsciously, he also did not know that his grip on the glass he used to drink tightened and it shattered in his hand abruptly like a balloon. Allen and Jerry flinched simultaneously. While the other three only look over at Jerry with serious expressions. "What just happened? Jerry, are you okay?" Allen leaned over the table. "You're injured." Jasper took Jerry's hand and checked on it. "The wound is deep. We have to disinfect it otherwise it will get infected. Let's go. I will help you." "No need." Jerry retracted his hand and held it in his other hand. "Don't bother. I can do this myself." "Why not? You're bleeding!" "I said I can do it and I'm fine. Then I'm fine. I don't need any of you to care for me." Jerry stood up instantly. "I'll get someone to help me clean this mess. Sorry for scaring you. Don't mind me. You guys go on." With that said, Jerry left the place with a gloomy expression and entered the house. The reason for his ugly expression was not because of the wound but because of the pain and hatred he was enduring in his heart. With that wound, at least, his heart was comforted a little. "What's wrong with that guy?" Allen asked himself as they followed their sight on Jerry's figure, confused. "Jasper, what did you do to him? He was clearly fine earlier. How come he suddenly became like that?" "I don't know either." Jasper replied with a scratch on his nape. "Actually, he has been talking to me endlessly on our way here like an old chatterbox. Excited to see you girl friend. So I also don't know why he lost his mood to play out of a sudden." "Okay, you guys continue. I'll go check on him. I don't feel right with that guy." Allen said and left them. When only Geneva, the kid, and Jasper left on the table, silence occurred in between them. But Geneva was uncomfortable with how Jasper looked at her. A stiff smile appeared on her lips. "Lieutenant, is there something you can only face? What kind of look is that?" "Auh, sorry. Sorry. Sorry if that offends you." Jasper immediately changed the way he looked at the woman and smiled, scratching his head again. "I didn't mean to do that but I can help it. There is something in mind that bothers me so I spaced out and stared at you that way." Geneva's brows furrowed. "Something bothers you? What is the thing bothering you then? Maybe I can help you out. Or that involves me?" "You- you expose the truth… I- I feel ashamed." "What is it? Say it." "Alright. I will say it. But you don't have to answer me if you feel inconvenient." "Okay." "You and Jerry, you know each other, right?" An awkward silence once more occurred between them. Jasper forced a smile, embarrassed. "Auh, I said you can choose not to answer me if it's inconvenient. Don't feel pressured. I am not forcing you to answer me. I am just asking casually." "Yes." Geneva answered straightforwardly. "Auh, huh?" Jasper's expression was like a kid who knows nothing in the world. To simply put, naive and confused. "What did you just say? Yes?" Geneva nodded her head and brought a glass of wine on her lips. She took a sip and answered, "We coincidentally met each other while I was abroad. I seemed had offended him, so he is angry at me until now." "I see." Jasper nodded. "Don't worry, Miss Sanchez. I will talk to him about this. Jerry is actually not that grumpy and not someone who bear a grudge over someone. He is quite easygoing, that's why we became friends. Perhaps, he really had something in mind that caused him to lose his mood to mingle with us." "You don't need to do that. He has his own opinion. You don't have to talk to him about things that involve us. I assure you. Things will only turn more bad if you talk to him about this. I don't want you to fight because of me. So, no need. Don't ever think about it again." "I see. Then… alright. I will listen to you." Jasper raised a glass of wine and the two tossed before drinking that wine. "Lieutenant, can you not call me Miss Sanchez anymore? That's too formal." Jasper chuckled. "Of course. So you should not call me Lieutenant either. That makes me feel so stranger towards you." "Then, what should I call you then?" "Em… let me think… oh just call me Jasper. Jasper is fine." "Then I'll call you Jasper tonight." Silence once more occurred in between them. And Geneva felt uncomfortable. She might be thinking too much but she felt that there was something in the eyes of Jasper when he stared at her. By the way Lieutenant, I have been wanting to ask you this." Geneva started their conversation again. Her goal was to break the silent awkwardness that surrounded them. "What is it? Quite mysterious." Jasper replied with an awkward smile. "Do you know who Allen's family is?" "Allen's family?" Jasper shook his head. "No. I only know him. Besides, I am not the kind of person who likes to pry someone's entire life. Although we are friends, he still has his privacy. So, if he doesn't feel like introducing his family to me, then I won't ask either… Actually, there is also one thing I am not clear about. This kid and CL International, what are their connections?" "Connections?" Geneva glanced at the kid and then frowned as she looked at Jasper again. "You don't even know that? I thought you admired President Chen before?" Jasper intently stared at her suddenly. "Geneva, how did you know I admired President Chen before? I didn't remember telling it to you or someone else except that day… oh, did your cousin tell you about that?" "Yeah. Yes. He told me that. He accidentally heard it from your mouth personally. Lieutenant, wait I mean, Jasper. I hope you won't get mad at him." It took him for a while before Jasper gave a smile. "How could I? He is actually a great man. I actually treated him as a good friend of mine. So you don't have to worry." "Then that's great. Then I'm relieved. Oh right. You asked me what the connection is between Little Love and The CL International. Why? Allen didn't tell you that either?" Jasper shook his head. "Such an important thing. How could he just casually declare it to others? The more people know about the kid's identity, the more he will be in danger. So, I understand him… Besides, I only got free time today and so I got to attend his birthday. I had no time to ask him about this. Good thing I came." The man paused and only told in his mind the next words he wanted to say but didn't dare to speak it out. "Good thing I thought to come. Otherwise, I would miss this chance to see you again. This is fate. It seems like I had to treat Allen even better in the future. Who knows?" "I see." Geneva nodded, ignoring the man's moment of silence and odd gaze. "Actually, the kids, CL International, and Allen, their connections are beyond what you expected. They are—" Geneva's words were severed instantly when they heard Allen's panic voice. "This is bad! This is bad!" Allen shouted, running towards them from the corridor. "What happened?" Jasper stood up right away and asked, worry overtook his face. "Did something happen to Jerry?" "No. That's not it." Allen braced his hands on his knees, grasping his breath. "Calm down. What exactly is happening? You look as if someone is about to cut your head." Geneva commented coldly. "Exactly." Allen scratched his head. "You got it." Geneva's brow knitted together. Though Allen had not yet answered her, she had a bad feeling in her heart. "What- what do you mean?" "Uncle is here!" "What?" Geneva rose up instantly. Although she had expected to hear that, she was still surprised, unable to calm down. "Didn't you tell me he is out for a business trip? Why is he here? Allen, are you playing with me?" Allen smiled awkwardly. "Geneva, if you believe it or not. I also don't know why my uncle is here. Arthur clearly told me that they won't be coming back for days. So, I don't know why he is back so suddenly." "Damn! I hate to see that man! Sorry Allen, I can',t accompany you any longer. I should leave right now." Geneva was about to leave when she felt a tug on her dress. When she looked down, she realized that the kid was looking up and tugging her dress. "Sorry Darling, I almost forgot you. But, I have to leave right away. Your father is here. I don't want to see him." "What's wrong with the father of this kid? Is he so strict? What's going on?" Jasper asked, confused? "Allen, is your uncle forbidding you to bring a friend over?" "Aiyeh, there's not enough time for questioning. Help me think of a way not to anger him." Allen looked so frustrated and troubled all of a sudden. "I am actually not worried for myself. But, come on, that man doesn't like to see people he doesn't know in his house. I'm doomed! I'm doomed!" "Darling, I'm leaving. Let's just find a day to meet each other again. I love you. and I'm sorry. I have to leave right now." Geneva ruffled the kid's hair. Her heart was aching to see the kid's sadness but she decided not to see the man. Thus, she had to be firm. Unexpectedly, she had just turned to leave when a voice echoed from the corridor. "Where do you think you're going?"
