Chapter 2: Am I Really Pregnant Or Not?

3036 Words
It's been three days since that spectacular night. The night that mercilessly destroyed her happiness and hopes. Geneva Sanchez thought that she could forget him as days passed by. She thought that the pain would subside if she believed and encouraged her heart that he was unworthy of herself. But she was extremely wrong. How naive she was to underestimate the influence of that man in her life as well as the feeling she had for him. The feeling of being abandoned and betrayed by the person she deeply loved after surrendering everything she had to only him was truly excruciating to bear. It was enough for her to wish to just die. She wished to die but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Who was he to throw herself away? Would he laugh at her and look down on her when she killed herself? She was still so young for her age of 22, so pretty, and irresistibly charming. Who was he to let him control her happiness? She couldn't accept it. She couldn't let it happen. She must live. Live well and happily than him. Geneva Sanchez wiped off her tears with her fingers and smiled beautifully at her reflection in the mirror, showing off her fabulous dimples at the both sides of her sexy cherry-colored lips. Though her eyes were swollen, the natural and exotic beauty that could make everyone's head turn to stare was still glimmeringly transparent. "Geneva Sanchez, you can do it. Stand up and live well without that man. He is not worthy of you. Yes, he is not." With that consolation in mind, Geneva turned on the faucet in full volume and soaked her face in the sink, letting her face drown in the flowing water. She wasn't trying to kill herself. This action was a foolish and childish ritual that she could think of to end her miserable experience in love and sealed the memories of their past. Geneva was completely isolated herself from the outside world. Even after a couple of loud knocks on the bathroom door, she didn't realise it. A blonde short-haired woman, wearing a white collared shirt and black slacks stood outside the door. Her look was inferior to Geneva, but she was still a beauty. She possessed an air of confidence, independence, and professional woman. "Eva, what took you so long? You're really worrying me! I'm warning you, don't do something stupid just because of that man!... If you don't come out right now, I will come in!" The woman checked the time on her gold watch and her expression darkened. Her jaws tightened as she slapped the door loudly again. When she still didn't get any response, she gave the door a forceful kick with her six inches heel and barged in, only to find her best friend suffocating herself in the sink. "Oh my God, what the hell are you doing?" Lilith De Lion shrieked in fright and sprinted over immediately. Her face paled as she grabbed Geneva's shoulders from behind and hugged her tightly as she mumbled with an aggrieved tone, "Eva, why are you doing this? Are you still treating me as your sister?" Lilith began to sob as she didn't hear any sound from Geneva. She hugged her even more tightly, as if afraid to lose her if she let go. "Why are you so silly? It's not the end of the world yet. I am still here. I beg you, don't do this stupid thing because of that man again. I will help you forget him. I will introduce you to someone else who is better than him, em?" Geneva was stunned from the sudden warm hug of her best friend. She was first confused by the girl's action until hearing her cry and complain in pain. She almost choked to death by her rough and sudden embrace. She raised her hand and gently patted Lilith's back. "Lilith, I can't breathe." Lilith let go of her and ceased her tears, but pulled a stern long face. Seeing this, Geneva couldn't help but burst into laughter. "What's that face for?" Geneva feigned innocence. "Humph! Don't pretend to be ignorant." Lilith seriously glared at Geneva's eyes and angrily pointed her best friend's nose. "Geneva Sanchez, I dare you do this again! Or just forget we are best friends!" Lilith stomped her heel on the tile floor and turned to leave. She was so mad that she didn't bother to look back again even after Geneva called out her name twice. "Lilith, I'm sorry!" Geneva scratched the back of her head. Without hesitation, she chased after her and grabbed her arm, explaining hurriedly to her. "Lilith, don't be angry. Actually, you got me wrong. Just earlier, you saw me… I was just… well, I was not trying to kill myself." Lilith halted her steps and glared back at her. With a strict expression, she spoke, "Do you think I'm an i***t? Not killing yourself, huh? Then what are you doing earlier? Don't tell me you're just washing your face?" "Exactly!" Geneva beamed brightly. "Indeed, I'm washing my face." "Seriously?" Geneva's left brow arched proudly. "What do you think? I am beautiful and young. There's a lot of men who are crazy about my beauty. There's more now. There's even more in the future. A man like him is nothing for me to waste my precious life." Lilith eyed her up and down doubtfully. But seeing her confident and arrogant attitude back, she nodded in approval. "Well, that's good to hear. It's his loss to dump such a beautiful and yummy body." Lilith licked her lips as she stared at her to emphasise her words. Geneva suddenly hugged her plump and full breasts when she remembered she was almost naked. She was actually shamelessly posing in front of her friend wearing only a set of burgundy bra and backless underwear. Geneva's face flushed as she gritted her teeth. She pointed to the door and shouted, "You perverted woman. Hurry to the door and go out!" Lilith chuckled as she attempted to reach out for Geneva's cleavage that was bulging even more for trying to cover it. Geneva snapped her hand away before the latter could touch it. "You shameless woman. How can you be so perverted?" Lilith broke into laughter. She held her stomach in pain because of it. "Geneva, we have been best friends for so long and even live together in this apartment. You are still shy about having me see your body. If I didn't know you, I would think you have never been in a romantic relationship with a man." Lilith quickly covered her mouth with her fingers when she noticed her best friend's expression changed from a mixture of proud and happy to a mixture of mappy and agitated face. Lilith tapped her lips and whispered, "I'm sorry. My tongue slipped by itself." Geneva sighed. "It's fine. Alright, let me put on my clothes first." "Okay. I will wait for you at the dining table. Please hurry or we will be late for work." Geneva dejectedly watched Lilith leave the room before proceeding to dress herself up with a white long sleeve shirt with a black small linings on both sleeves and paired with a black skirt that she prepared in advance on the bed. Geneva left her face nude, but she was stunning as always. In order not to make Lilith wait for so long, she hastily dressed up herself and it took her almost five minutes to finish everything including tying her hair into a high ponytail and putting on her five inches black shoes. When she walked out, she found Lilith eating already on the table in the kitchen that was opposite of her room with the living room in between. "You glutton, you actually eat by yourself?" Geneva smiled as she marched over unhurriedly. "Be careful not to choke." Lilith rolled her eyes and continued stuffing her mouth with noodles spaghetti. "Don't walk like you're having a catwalk in front of me. Giddy up over here!" "You're such an old nanny. Enough with the fussing." Geneva grinned. Lilith just ignored her and focused her attention on eating. She paid no attention to Geneva anymore who's expressions changed as she got close to the table. Geneva's nose wrinkled when she sniffed the aroma of the food. It clearly smelled sweet and pleasant but she found it awful. The next thing that followed was the worst. Her stomach uncomfortably wrung and she suddenly felt like throwing up. She covered her mouth and ran into the sink. Tears formed at the edges of her eyes from puking but only a little water and a little food from last night came out. She felt really bad inside. Lilith frowned at this sight as she watched her for a while. Perhaps, she thought of something when worry suddenly flashed in her eyes. Putting down her cutlery, she rose up and came over, rubbing her best friend's back. They continued in such a position where Lilith comforted Geneva on her back with her hand and the latter kept throwing up with a content almost containing only air. When she had had enough, Geneva turned on the faucet and rinsed her mouth and entire face thoroughly. Then came over the table to grab a tissue to dab her face dry. After all of these, she stood upright and gave Lilith a sweet smile who's expression was currently unfathomable. Who knew what was running in her mind? Geneva coughed with a fist over her lips. "Lilith, what's in your head? Why shoot me that kind of look?" "Are your body fine?" Lilith leaned her butt against the sink, crossed her arms over her chest, and stared at her mysteriously. Geneva frowned as she gave Lilith a 'what's with you?' face. "Answer me. Did your body feel uncomfortable recently? Did you feel some changes inside your body?" "I'm not sure." Geneva shrugged as she pulled a seat for herself to sit down. "If feeling stuffy in my abdomen and feeling sleepy most of the time counts, then I did have." She placed a small portion of food on her plate and picked a glass of milk to drink. As she did, she slightly looked at her best friend. Lilith's countenance suddenly became troubled upon hearing her response. Geneva noticed her expression and was confused. "Is being dumped that complicated? Why are you suddenly acting stranger than me who is heartbroken? Didn't you ask me to cheer myself up? I'm doing it now. Then what's with you this time?" She furrowed her brows as she put down the glass of milk. Using her peripheral view, she spooned a noodles spaghetti and brought it to her mouth. However, before she could open her lips, that discomfort she suffered earlier acted up again. It was even worse, she didn't manage to run in the sink and vomit all the milk she drank on the floor. Lilith breathed a heavy sigh as she walked toward the hidden cupboard in a corner for house cleaning tools and picked a mop. "Let me clean this. Go back to your room and wear something comfortable for you." "Why?" Geneva stood abruptly and examined herself. "My clothes are still great. Besides, I need this to work today. My three days leave is over." "You're not allowed to work today. It's urgent. You have to go with me." "You can't possibly want me to watch you undergo a test for pregnant women in your workplace, right?—wait?" Geneva suddenly thought of something and her eyes widened in terror. "You're not suspecting me I'm pregnant, are you?" Lilith paused from mopping the floor and gave her an indifferent look without bothering talking to her. Geneva didn't have an oral confirmation from her best friend. The way Lilith behaved towards her, silently admitted her doubt and it made her knees limp. She covered her mouth with her palms with her tears dropping in silence. She sat back lifelessly as Lilith walked over her and hugged her. "It's fine. I will take good care of you if you really are." Lilith assuringly whispered in a trembling tone as they both tightened their arms. … Dr. Lilith De Leon was an obstetrician. She personally performed a series of tests in the hospital she worked with for Geneva. She cared for her a lot, and so she rushed the result and it came out at exactly one in the afternoon. A deafening silence shrouded in Lilith's office. With a test report lying on her table, the pair of best friends sat facing each other, staring blankly at the paper. Geneva couldn't stand the silence and instead of checking on the report directly, she chose to confront Lilith. "What's the report said? Am I really pregnant or not?" Lilith stared at her and asked something else instead of confirming it directly. She tapped her index finger on the test report without shifting her eyes away from Geneva. "What's your plan about this?" Geneva wasn't born tomorrow. Whether Lilith answered with a yes or not, the underlying meaning behind her questions confirmed everything. But even though it was expected, Geneva was still shocked. She was unable to reply to Lilith immediately. Lilith's words ran around her mind and she wanted to speak but found herself lost for words. "Are you going to tell him?" "No!!!" Geneva abruptly went on her feet and slammed her hands on the table. She then paced around as she clutched her chest near her heart. She felt her legs suddenly go boneless. She could hardly maintain her footing as she staggered towards the wall and leaned against it. Holding back her tears, she took a deep breath to ease the stifling feeling in her chest and uttered in a trembling voice, "I can't let him know I'm pregnant. He can't know I'm pregnant or else I can't escape from him. He will either confine me to become his procreating tool or snatch my child after giving birth. I can't accept that even if his father was him. I can't let that bastard take my child away." Lilith didn't say anything. She just watched her vent her frustration and complains although it pained her too. She forced herself to be strong as she knew her best friend had no one else to support her. She has to be someone Geneva could depend and lean on. Geneva sloped down and hugged her knees. Eventually, she bawled with the thought of having a miserable life. She just took a few minutes to cry. After that, she picked herself up and sat back in front of Lilith with a sincere smile. As if nothing just happened. Lilith stretched out her arm and wiped her best friend's tears with her fingertips. With a gentle and supportive look on her face, she asked, "Geneva, whatever your plan is, I'll support you. Just tell me." Geneva hung her head down and fiddled her thumbs, afraid to see Lilith's reaction when she was speaking out her thoughts. "Lilith, you are my best friend, but I troubled you a lot already during those recent years. I know I don't have anyone with me. I didn't know who my parents were and where they were. I can only seek help from you. But— I can't forever depend on you, especially since I am a mother now." Lilith balled her fists that were resting on the table and tapped one of them. "Geneva Sanchez, raise your head and look at me. Look at my eyes!" Geneva was reluctant but she eventually did. The two of them stared at each other's eyes emotionally before Lilith broke the silence. "Who am I to you?" Lilith whispered. "My best friend. My sister." Lilith closed her eyes as she raised her head up, afraid to let the other party see her tears. When she was sure that her tears were under her control, she met Geneva's red eyes again. "You said I'm your sister?" "Hmm, that's right." "Then why are you telling me all of these?" "I—" "Ms. Geneva Sanchez, do you know what your current condition is?" "Lilith, calm down. Don't be mad." Geneva was aware that if Lilith addressed her with her full name, the latter was extremely mad at her and she felt guilty because of that. She didn't want to see her upset over her. "How can I calm down? Tell me, how?" Lilith turned her swivel chair around. "Geneva, I'm sorry. Even if you insist on leaving me or leaving this place, I can't allow you. No… Even if I allow you, with your current body condition, travelling or any heavy work are unadvisable. If you are not careful enough, your womb and your baby will be in danger." Geneva's eyes popped wide in shock. Although the information was limited to figure out the whole situation, it was enough for her to get scared. She left her seat and turned Lilith's chair to face her. Benting in, she spoke with teary eyes. "Lilith, be honest with me. What's wrong with my pregnancy?" Lilith smiled bitterly. "Your blood is rare. Your pregnancy is even rarer. Although right now I can't confirm if the baby will be born healthy or not, but I am sure, if you get miscarriage or abort the fetus, you will no longer have a chance to get pregnant in the future. You will forever be infertile. Now, do you get me?" Geneva staggered a few steps back and Lilith hurriedly supported her by her shoulders. "What should I do then?" Geneva mumbled helplessly. "I can't allow him to know the existence of the baby." Lilith gave her an assuring hug. "Eva, I'm here. If you want to hide from him, I can arrange a new house for you. Just take good care of yourself and the baby. Leave everything to me." "Thank you." "Silly girl, you don't have to thank me. This is what I should do." Lilith blinked her eyes several times as she rested her chin on Geneva's shoulder.
