Chapter 37: Not Worth Mentioning

1531 Words
Morning eventually came. At the dining table in Bluebird Garden. Sat next to each other, the mother and son duo were eating silently on the table filled with delicious dishes. "Hmm, what a nice morning. Good morning everyone." Allen's cheerful voice echoed from the doorway. "No wonder God let me wake up so early. It's because there's a delicious and warm breakfast waiting for me." Allen sat opposite to the duo and grinned so brightly. Even brighter than the sun. "Geneva, how's your night?" "Not worth mentioning." Geneva flatly replied while continuing eating. "I'm great at sleeping with Darling." "What? You sleep with little love?" Allen's lips parted in surprise. He was already aware who she was calling Darling but he could still not believe that the two already slept together so fast. He felt so strange. Didn't their relationship progress so fast? How could a child who despised being touched by others and loved to stay alone allow a stranger to sleep with him? Their interactions even beat the relationship with the biological mother and son. Geneva raised her head and arched a brow at him. "Is there a problem with that? Why are you surprised?" Allen glanced at the kid who unusually had a good appetite and then at Geneva. Then eventually shook his head like a rattle drum, getting rid of his ridiculous thoughts. "What dirty thoughts are running through your head this time?" Geneva asked. "Nothing. Nothing." Allen shook his head. "I was just overwhelmed with the mess yesterday." He looked, looking for someone. "Where is he?" "Who?" Geneva feigned innocence. "You really don't know?" "Should I know him?" Geneva frowned. "So early. Don't mention the people who are not worth mentioning. It will only ruin our mood." "So you know him." Allen also frowned. "Did he do something to you?" Geneva's hand froze for a while. "What do you think he could do to me? I'm not that delicate." The kid looked up, glanced at Geneva and then at Allen. Allen looked at the kid at the same time thus their eyes met. Allen brows knitted together. Without looking at the woman, he said with an upset low tone. "Geneva, is there something I should know?" "None." Geneva seriously replied. She put down her cutlery and dabbed her mouth with a table napkin. She then stared at Allen. "There's nothing you should know, Allen. Besides, nothing had actually happened. If there is, I can handle it myself. I am no longer a child who always needs protection from anyone. Besides, when I needed that before so much, no one had provided for me except myself. So I'm used to it." The kid held Geneva's hand. While doing such a simple act, he could deliver the comfort he wanted to convey to her. While doing so too, he could make her feel she was not alone. Geneva smiled. "Thanks Darling. You're so great." Allen nodded. "Alright. I hope he did nothing to scare you. But seriously. Where is he? Did he leave for work already?" Allen glanced at the clock on the wall and found that it was still pretty early and so he couldn't help but frown, wondering. "It's still early. Not time to come to work. Why left so early?" "Don't ask me. I don't know. I did not supervise him." Geneva flatly said. Allen quieted down and began to scoop some food foe himself. "Continue eating Darling." Geneva said to the kid, smiling so warmly. The silence in the room returned normally and dining was peaceful. They thought it would end like that when the huge popsicle entered the room. He sauntered towards the refrigerator without glancing at any of them. As if their existence was nothing to him. As if he was alone in such a big universe. He totally disregarded their presence. Butler Kriz came over with a hot soup in his hands from the kitchen. The smell was so fragrant and mouth-watering. Even the two couldn't help but swallow their saliva. Their stomach craved that unknown soup. "Young Master, good morning. Here's your soup." Butler Kriz handed the soup with a smile. Chen Lei looked at the old man and then to the soup for a while. Everyone at the dining table thought that the usually unreasonable man would flare up again without reason. However, when he picked the bowl without saying a thing, Geneva and Allen were surprised, gaping. "This man is really something. Good thing he doesn't forget to treat the old Kriz well." Allen whispered. Geneva lips pursed tightly. Not commenting. Chen Lei put the soup back to the tray and waved his hand, silently telling the butler to leave. The cold devil was about to leave when Allen suddenly spoke and so he stopped, slightly glancing at the speaker in a cold manner. "You just came back from outside. Are you going to work again?" Chen Lei slightly tilted his head in their direction. "What? Are you going to handle the workload in the office in my stead?" "No. No. That's impossible!" Allen turned away quickly, refusing to talk to the man anymore. And then mumbled, "I do hate to work in the office. But I hate working with you even more." Geneva slightly looked at Allen. "You better not talk if you don't want to put yourself in trouble." Geneva paused and talked to herself inwardly. "You don't know. He left the house last night but he came back and almost torture me. That hateful bastard." Chen Lei ignored Allen's remarks though he heard them clearly. Instead of entering the kitchen, he turned back to where he came to leave the room. However, before he could leave the place, he halted as he reached near the woman's side, muttering blatantly, "Be careful. You might choke." Then he walked away. "Look at him. So rude." Allen said and he shook his head. "Geneva, just ignore him. He has some mental and social problems." "Don't worry. I am not that petty. Okay, let's hurry up. I still need to work." "What is your plan about Little Love?" The kid also looked at the woman. His eyes were expressing that he anticipated to hear something good. "Is there no one who can look after him when I'm not around?" Geneva said that caused the kid to suddenly appear dejected. "Miss Divaz is here. She can take care of him." Allen sneakily glanced at the kid and his chest heaved a heavy sigh when he noticed the sad face of the kid. He then looked at the woman, asking seriously. "Are you serious?" "Serious about what?" Geneva frowned, confused. "About quitting from the job I offer." Allen lowered his head and fed his mouth silently. "I'm still considering it." "Are you telling me it's not yet decided?" "Yes. I have to weigh things first before deciding. I don't want to regret my decision later. Besides…" Geneva glanced at the kid and ruffled his head. "I can't bear to leave him. I love to have him by my side." Allen's expression suddenly turned fierce. "It's the devil Popsicles' fault. If he did not pressure or bully you, there should be no problem now. Geneva, I'm sorry." "You don't have to apologise to me. It's not actually your fault." Geneva took a sip from a glass of water, wiped her lips, and stood up. "Alright. I have to leave first." "You're going now?" "Yes. I still have some important things to do." Geneva stooped down and smiled at the kid. "Darling, don't be sad. I'll be back when I'm done with work. Stay here and be good. Don't run around, okay?" The kid hung his head low, refusing to answer. "Darling? I need to know your response. Can't I trust you?" The kid looked up reluctantly and nodded. "Great. That's my boy." Geneva drew and kissed the kid on his forehead which surprised him. "Then I'm leaving." "Okay." Allen replied and the two nodded at the same time. Right as Geneva turned to leave, a rare smile appeared on the kid's lips which made him look so innocent, lovable, and angelic. Allen leaned on the table and rested his head on his fist as he stared at the kid, grinning like a fool. "Little Love, what are you smiling at? Wait? Shouldn't you reward me?" The kid only threw a cold gaze at his brother's cousin. "Hey, you Ungrateful kid. Don't look at me like that. I only want a little reward from you. It's not hard. You don't have to spend money. You don't have to move. It's actually effortless for you." The kid's eyes narrowed. His eyes were asking him about what reward he wanted. "Call me brother." Allen grinned. The kid stood up, looked at him intently, and left by himself, heading upstairs. "Hey, hey, where are you going? You have not given me my reward yet!" Allen shouted but the kid only turned a deaf ear. Allen could only take a deep breath and shook his head. "This kid is really…" The young man paused and stuffed his mouth until his cheeks grew bigger like an elastic balloon.
