The taxi pulled over at the foot of a very tall building. The building has no extravagant structure or exterior design but it was the most eye-catching and tallest among the buildings in the area.
"I just arrived." Geneva said to the person on the other end of the phone as she made her way out of the taxi. "You don't have to fret over this thing anymore. Just like what I have said, I am used to doing things alone. As if you really don't know me. Before we knew each other. I have been alone. Giving me a lift is not familiar to me."
The other person sighed so deep. "You really did not give me an honor to send you for work or even wait with me to go to work with you. We are working in the same company but you refused to go together with me. Geneva, I feel that you are suddenly avoiding me. Is it because of him? You're hurting me. Do you know that?"
"When will you stop from overthinking things too much?" Geneva subconsciously rolled her eyes. "Although we are working in the same company, I am not your manager. I don't want to create trouble for myself. Besides, rumors are a scary thing in the entertainment industry. You have to avoid creating a scandal for ourselves. Otherwise, our careers are doomed."
"That's ridiculous!" Allen chuckled. "We both know you're disguising as a man at work. So how could you possibly create trouble if you're a man? Unless if we show to the public we are homosexual. Well, I don't mind anyway."
The man chuckled softly again.
"You're gross." Geneva blurted out. "Alright. Enough talking. I'm heading upstairs now. You better report to work too. Don't be lazy."
"So fast? You're really avoiding me. You don't even want to talk any longer with me. Woman, how can you be so heartless to me?"
"I'm hanging up." Geneva said in a warning tone, eyes knitted in between because of annoyance towards the man on the other end of the phone.
"Fine. Fine." Allen sighed audibly, giving up. "Do as you please. But…" The man laughed mysteriously suddenly.
"But what?" Geneva brows furrowed. "What are you planning this time?"
"I've known from you that you disguise yourself as a man to avoid problems at work. However I have not seen you as a man with my two eyes. Since I am here now, I really have an urge to meet that version of you. Isn't it exciting. I'm excited."
"I'm busy. Don't cause trouble for me. I don't like being disturb when I'm working. I'm warning you Allen. Don't appear in front of me or I'll kick your ass off."
"I won't cause trouble, I promise." Another meaningful chuckle came out from Allen's mouth. Then he flicked his lips that sounded like a p*****t. "Geneva, I feel we will see each other too soon. You better be prepared."
"Never mind. I'm hanging up now." Geneva quickly ended the call in order to stop the man from bragging or nagging nonstop like a broken chatterbox.
Geneva was about to stuff her phone in her slacks' pocket when another call came through her phone.
Krung! Krung! Krung!
"This man, when will he stop pestering me this early?" Geneva complained to herself. She really wanted not to answer the call but her instinct was ordering her to answer it despite feeling irritated. Since she was already in the huge lobby of the company, she lowered her voice, afraid to make everyone hear her female voice. "Hello?"
"Thank Goodness! Brother Xander, please come over here!!!" Probably because of the happiness that the owner of the phone picked up the call, the caller's tone as she spoke was extraordinarily high yet with a trace of panickedness.
Geneva immediately brought away the phone from her ear as she felt she was going to be deaf. The voice of the person felt like hurting her eardrum. Because of that, she forgot to shift her female tone into male one.
Her face contorted. "Calm down! What are you fretting about? You're hurting my ear."
"I'm sorry Brother Xander!... Brother Xander? This is—" The caller paused abruptly when she suddenly realised that something was off. "You are not Brother Xander? Who are you?" The sweet yet uneasy voice of a young woman suddenly raised into an inquisitive one. Like a girlfriend questioning another woman who stole or having an affair with her boyfriend. "Why did you have Brother Xander's phone?"
Geneva halted her steps as she realized the problem and knocked her forehead in frustration as she closed her eyes, calming herself down.
"So forgetful!" She mumbled inwardly. Geneva quieted down for a moment before she spoke. By that time, she was already using her male voice. "What's up?"
The woman on the other end didn't speak.
"Miss Apostol, why are you not talking anymore?" Geneva's cold personality was back. "Is the matter done already?"
Xindy Apostol cleared her throat and struggled to find her voice while huddling in a corner. "Brother- Brother Xander, the lady who answered the call just earlier, who- who is she?"
"Why are you still asking about that thing? Is that what you only had in your head all day? I'm hanging up if there's nothing else." Geneva warned. Geneva thought that the person on the other end would stop lingering on such an issue when suddenly Xindy Apostol shouted.
A shout that could make everyone think there's a thief in the house.
Geneva frowned. Though annoyed because of the noise hurting her ear, she remained calm and cold. "Did you see your crush just now? What are you shouting about?"
Xindy Apostol covered her lips as she hid in a corner in order to cover the sight of the people who looked over her direction as she abruptly screamed like a slaughtered pig. Lowering her voice, she said, "Brother Xander, I got it now. This thought just crossed my mind. That lady, that lady with an angelic voice, she is your girlfriend, isn't she?"
Geneva coughed hard upon hearing such a funny question. There was a feeling to laugh in heart but not because the question was funny but because of how ridiculous the truth was.
Closing her eyes, Geneva mumbled inwardly, "How did my other self become my girlfriend? This is the funniest joke I ever heard. Very well then. I can use this misunderstanding to cut their fantasy over me."
Geneva took a deep breath before speaking. "Yes. It was her. Is there a problem with that?"
"Auhh!!!" Xindy Apostol screamed under the suppression of her own hands in order not to attract everyone's attention.
"Stop overreacting. Speak. What is it about? Is there something that happened on the set?"
"Oh right! I almost forgot that important matter." Xindy Apostol was forced to become serious. "Brother Xander, are you busy this morning? I really need you to come over. I initially thought not to disturb you for this because I thought it was not serious. But we can't go on filming because of the problem. I'm sorry."
"Even the director can't do anything about the problem? What kind of problem is that?" Geneva brows knitted together uncontrollably.
"This— the problem is—"
"Tell me exactly what happened?" Geneva interrupted.
"Brother Xander, it's about Sister Alyssa."
"Miss Curtis? What's wrong with her? How is the problem related to her? As far as I know, she is such a diligent and obedient artist. She has never made a mistake since she started her debut."
"I don't know either." Xindy Apostol on the other end of the phone, took a deep breath. "Brother Xander, you better come over to know about the entire thing. And talk to her. She is so— sigh. I don't know how to tell you about this."
"Okay. Okay. Try to talk to the director about the problem. Don't let the problem worsen. I'm coming over right away."
"Yes."
With that said, Geneva ended the call and hurriedly left the company.
