Jensen heard that not only would he need the best doctors to treat him, but he was also going to be crippled. Blood rushed to his head, and he fainted on the spot.
Seeing his grandson lying on the ground, unrecognizable, Lord Willis finally admitted his mistake. "Mr. Storm, please stop! I beg you, it was my idea! Jensen only followed orders. If you must punish someone, punish me! Jensen can't take it anymore. Please, I beg you, show mercy!"
But Talon seemed not to hear, and the whip in Azureblade's hand didn't stop either. Only after finishing a takeout meal did Talon say, "I don't care who gave the order. Jensen carried it out, so he must be punished."
"You're right, Mr. Storm, but…" Lord Willis looked at Jensen, hesitating.
Talon leaned back in his chair comfortably and asked, "Lord Willis, do you know what the Willis family did wrong?"
"I never should have banished Ariya from the family. She gave us a chance by letting us handle the renovation, but I shouldn't have complained. I coveted Arilon Group and caused her trouble."
Tears streamed down Mateo's old face, making him seem even older. "And the biggest mistake of all—I told Jensen to spread rumors about Ariya. Please, take my life instead of Jensen's. He's the only heir of the Willis family. I can't watch our family die out!"
Talon raised his hand, and two forks flew off the table. The forks traveled several yards and embedded themselves in Jensen's eye sockets. The pain woke Jensen from his unconscious state, but he soon passed out again.
"Mr. Storm!" Mateo shouted in shock.
Talon stood up and said, "I promised Ariya I'd spare Jensen's life. But from now on, he might live like a fool. You can keep him. I don't care who you are. Don't ever cross Ariya again!"
"Kill! Kill! Kill!" the Dragon Nest soldiers shouted in unison, ready for action.
Talon glanced at Jensen, then walked out of the Willis family conference room. Azureblade signaled, and the Dragon Nest soldiers followed him out in perfect order. Not one person panicked, not one person stepped out of line, and no one even spared the Willis family a glance.
The Willis family members collapsed onto the floor, staring at the pitiful sight of Jensen and listening to Mateo's loud wails. Only at that moment did they realize just how terrifying Talon was. And worse, they understood the consequences of crossing Ariya—living would be worse than dying.
"Norah, is that man... really our son-in-law?" Alvin finally spoke, disbelief clear in his voice, after Talon had been gone for a while.
The scene had been too much for Norah. Nervously, she replied, "Yes. When he first came back, I even tried to get people to kick him out... Who knew he'd be this ruthless? Something must have happened during his five years in the military."
Norah glanced at Jensen, shuddering. "Now that he's back, we need to be very careful with what we say! Otherwise, the family…"
"Oh, okay... okay..." Alvin gulped nervously, muttering in agreement.
After dealing with Jensen, Talon had nothing else to do, so he walked back home. When he arrived, he was surprised to find Alvin and Norah bustling about the kitchen.
Alvin and Norah had discussed that Talon was not someone they could afford to offend. Not wanting to make things worse, they had gone to the market, bought a lot of groceries, and showed up at Ariya's house, saying they wanted to improve their meals. When Talon returned, Norah emerged from the kitchen with a beaming smile.
"Oh, my dear Talon, you're back! Time for dinner. You know, you've been gone for five whole years! We have been waiting so long to share a meal with you. Tonight, I'm making sure you're well taken care of!"
Norah returned to the kitchen, and Ariya came out of the bedroom with Maisy, puzzled by the sudden change in her parents' behavior. "What... did you do to my parents? Why are they acting so differently toward you?" she asked Talon.
"Maybe they had a change of heart," Talon replied with a smile. After what happened with Jensen, if her parents didn't change their opinion of him, that would be surprising. But it was for the best. At least the family could be a little more harmonious now.
After washing his hands, Talon joined the family at the table. Alvin smiled and said, "Talon, how about a drink?" Talon didn't refuse, so Alvin eagerly opened a bottle of fine wine and poured a glass for him.
Holding up his cup, Alvin said, "Talon, I toast to you on behalf of our entire family. You served in the military for five years and brought honor to this country. As your father-in-law, I'm proud."
He added, "When you first came to our family, I wasn't supportive. I tried everything to get rid of you. Looking back, I realize I was a fool. Now, I won't waver. No matter what anyone says about you, I know you're my son-in-law, and they can all shove it. If you can forgive me, let's drink to that!"
Talon swirled his glass. Truthfully, Alvin had never treated him all that well, but for Ariya's sake, he decided not to hold a grudge.
"You're too kind. You've treated me well enough, especially during the time I was away, since you didn't marry Ariya off to someone else. This toast should be from me, celebrating our family's reunion." Talon raised his glass and downed it in one gulp.
He then casually added, "As for the Skinthall Residence project, keep up the good work. The mayor of Philadelphia will be retiring soon. With your success in developing that project, you're in line for a promotion. The mayor's position could be yours."
"Really?" Alvin had only intended to toast Talon, but now it seemed like there was more at stake. If Talon's words were true, then becoming mayor of Philadelphia in a few years was within reach!
Norah tugged at Alvin's sleeve and said, "Oh, come on, do you think Talon would lie about something like that? I've known from the first moment I met him that he was destined for greatness, but you wouldn't listen! Now look at you. Go on, finish your drink, and enjoy some more with our son-in-law tonight!"
Alvin held his glass with both hands and said, "Alright, alright. Talon, I'm not good with words, but you can rest assured that I'll personally oversee the Skinthall Residence project and make sure it's flawless. If I do get elected mayor, our whole family will be forever grateful for your help!" He downed his drink in one shot.
