Mom” Camden’s voice echoed through the empty house. “C’mon mom. It’s 9am already. We gotta get to school so you can get good view upfront” “Morning Mr. Camden” Arnold husky voice glared in Camden’s ear “It’s 9 am Arnold. You don’t have to be so loud in the morning. I’m sure the neighbors at the far end of the street can hear you” “Very funny sir. Where’s Miss Mia.” Arnold asked as he picked up a toasted bread from the white ceramic plate on the table. “Don’t ask me. You’re her secretary. You should know where she is. Maybe she’s in the other building. She didn’t sleep with me last night” Camden shoved a toast into his mouth a chugged down a bottle of milk. “That’s strange” Arnold added. His phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a notification from Mia telling him she rushed down to the office. He looked up gloomily at Camden “She went to work?” he slammed the half-eaten bread on the table and proceeded to the living room. “It’s my f*****g birthday and my graduation. Do you know how long I’ve been wanting to show my classmates my mom? Everyone looks at me like I’m a freak. No mother or father yet I use the latest phone and live in an expensive house. Everything’s f****d up” Arnold listened in silence and watched Camden rant about his mother. He felt the young lad’s pain. If only his father were here. “I don’t even care about this Blue Diamond Society and if we could end up dead. I just want to be with my mom, on the street like a normal child” “You are a normal child. Do you…” “I don’t want lectures this morning Arnold. Let’s just head to school” “Yes sir. I’m sure she’ll come around” “Whatever” The parking lot was parked with people with their respective cars or trucks. Camden rode in with the customized Bugatti Mia got him on his prom night. Pairs of eyes turned and watched as Camden walked out of the car gracefully with Arnold by his side acting as a bodyguard. As the top student, Camden was the valedictorian of his set. He smiled at the prying eyes carefully scanning the crowd for his best friend Emily. “Boo” Emily shouted from behind as she tickled him at his waist “Hey princess” He smiled observing her outfit. His eyes shone as he held her smooth hands. Camden’s heart leaped again as he pulled her close and gave her a tight hug. “What’s wrong cupcake” she asked as she held his face “Nothing much. I just needed a hug” he said as tears welled up in his eyes. He wished his mom was here to see his princess again. “Awnn. You’re so cute” she pulled his cheek gently and wiped the tear that wanted to drop. “It’s your birthday today. You should be happy” “I know” Camden voice broke as he spoke. More tears were forming in his eyes. No matter how cool he was trying to act he couldn’t believe he was finally done with a school he was supposed to leave four years ago. He’d miss every single soul in the school. From his over-bearing pushy principal to the always-angry janitor and then his beautiful cupcake. He burst out in tears again as Emily pulled him closer to herself. Arnold couldn’t help but laugh. He took out his phone and videoed the moment. “C’mon Arnold” Emily rolled her eyes as she patted Camden’s back. “Get the good angles” she laughed. Camden lifted his head and glared at the two of them. His eyes were pinkish and it was quite obvious he had been crying. “Your mom’s coming today right?” Emily asked silently. She wondered what would be his response. He never talked about his mom and she was the only one in the entire school that had seen her. Prom night was the most beautiful experience for her. “What?” Camden asked trying to clean his face properly with the hanky Arnold handed to him. “Your mom” Emily said louder. “She’s coming today right?” “Maybe” Camden replied expressionless. Suddenly he received a notification on his phone. The sound of the wind among the trees suddenly stopped. His eyes open widely as he saw the notification. Heart beats paused and his world seemed to pause. His hands began to shake and beads of sweat gathered on his forehead. He stood at a point and stared into the empty space “Camden?” Arnold shook him vigorously. “What’s wrong boy. Speak up” Arnold was getting agitated. He could feel something sinister brewing “It’s mom. She was involved in an accident” Arnold’s grabbed the keys and raced to the car. “She’s gonna be fine ok?” Emily said giving Camden on tight hug. Camden couldn’t focus. What he had dreaded all his life was slowly rearing its head like a snake. Could the Blue Diamond Society be behind this? Was she just involved in a coincidental accident? Was she alright? Camden thoughts became a tangled web in his head as Arnold drove to the hospital like he was in a fast and furious movie. The hospital was owner by one of the influential men in the country and a member of the Blue Diamond society. “I don’t like the feeling of this” Arnold said as he ran towards the reception. Camden was already ahead trying to get answers from the nurses “Hey sir. We need you to calm down” One of the nurses said trying to calm Arnold down “Calm down? I asked where my mom was and you’re telling me I have to do this and wait? She was in a f*****g accident. How do you expect me to be calm” “I can’t attend to you sir until you’re calm. You’re scaring the other visitors” the nurse pointed to some children and adults seated at the other end of the room “I need to see my mom.” Camden emphasised. “Where the hell is my mom?” Camden grabbed an empty chair nearby and raised it high above. “If no one tells me where my mom is right now I’m gonna smash this glass here right now” “Whoa whoa whoa Mr Camden. Slow down. You didn’t even give them a name so they can tell you where she is. I’m looking for Miss Mia Allinac. She was involved in an accident about an hour ago” Arnold said calmly Camden stared viscously at the nurse as she tried to locate Mia “Right. She’s stable and she was just moved to the executive room on the fifth floor” “What kind of hospital have five floors” “That shouldn’t be our business now Arnold” Camden raced to the elevator while Arnold still handled all the documentation and protocols. All elevators seemed jammed for some reason so Camden located the stairs and ran five stairways pausing at no interval. He needed to just see his mother Finally, he got to the fifty floor. Everywhere felt empty and sinister. His footsteps became louder and beams from the lights kept flickering and fading as he got closer to her room; the so-called executive room. Soon he was at her door. He watched her through the glass in the room door. His sweet mother laid on the bed struggling for her life. At least she was alright and alive. Nothing else seemed to matter. Suddenly a shadow approached the bed. It wasn’t the doctor or a nurse or a specialist. Hell, it wasn’t even a goddamn janitor. It was a man in a hood.
