The Start
Vampires. They've always been part of our world, happy to announce themselves. Of course with the Vampires comes the groupies. The ones who offer themselves up for whatever the Vampires want. It never ends badly though, not with the good ones anyways. There are the bad ones as well, they stay hidden for the most part. It seems the good ones keep them away from us humans.
"KAHLIA" I hear my name yelled as I answer the phone. My best friend of 12 years, Madison, has a flair for the dramatic. She's your usual, pretty and popular, good girl turned VG(Vamp Groupie). She's got long, red hair and the bluest eyes you've ever seen. She's beautiful in every way, and tries to tell me that I'm the same. I've always believed I'm pretty, but not the kind of pretty that makes people lose their minds. Although I secretly hold hope that someday I'll find someone who thinks I am.
Staring at my closet I come back to reality, hearing her scream my name again. "KAHLIA! Girl answer me!"
"What" I laugh.
"Did you hear anything I said?"
"umm"
"That's a no then. Girl I asked if you're coming to the bonfire tonight?"
Bonfire? I remember hearing something about it at school today but never any details.
"Hellooo?"
"Sorry I spaced. I don't know..I'm not really into that stuff like you".
"You HAVE to comee. Jennifer told me there's going to be Vamps there! You know I need me some of that"
"You're not gonna let me stay home are you?"
"Hah. Look outside"
Going over to my bedroom window, overlooking the driveway I see her standing there, hand on her hip. She's got her phone in her other hand and when she sees me looking, raises her brow in a challenge.
"Well, are you gonna let me in?"
You know you have a key right?"
"Yes but I lost it"
"Again?"
"What can I say it's who I am"
"Alright I'm coming"
I hang up and open my bedroom door and take the stairs 2 at a time. Getting to the front door I already hear her on the other side, chastising me for taking so long.
"Finally"
"Oh please it was barely 30 seconds"
"Yeah 30 seconds I could've been in here already "
We turn to go back upstairs and my mom comes around the corner. "Well hello Madison!"
"Hey Mrs. Jones."
"Oh please Madison you know that's not who I am anymore, it's Miss Silver now. Acting like you don't remember I'm divorced" She sort of laughs awkwardly. "Well anyways girls you have fun tonight"
"Mom I'm not going"
"Oh you're not? I thought you would be, that's why Madison is here"
"Exactly Miss S. that's why I'm here, convince her to gooooo"
Looking between the two of them I know I'm outnumbered. Reluctantly I nod my head in approval and say "I suppose I can make a small appearance "
You'd think I just told her she won the lottery with the way Mads was jumping around the room.
"I gotta finish getting ready then"
Heading up the stairs I go back into my very girly and pink room. Mom decided to decorate it for me when we moved in 12 years ago. When I met Mads, who lives just down the road. Who's room is almost a total opposite to mine. She closes the door and rushes into my connecting bathroom and gathers my makeup. Pushing me down onto a stool she gets to working her 'magic' as she calls it.
"So what are you going to wear? " She giggles excitedly.
"I don't know probably just some jeans and a sweatshirt "
The look on her face is one of horror. "Please tell me you're joking"
I just sit quietly for a moment. She gets up and walks to my closet looking through it, mumbling to herself as she goes. "OK no no no absolutely not. Definitely not, NOPE"
She glances over to me. "Don't you have anything sexy in here?"
I feel my face flush as I say "no".
"Girl I swear I have to do everything " She says as she picks up her purse that somehow I didn't even notice. Pulling out something small and black I instantly start to worry what she could've possibly brought. Walking back towards me she says "Ok put this on I brought it just in case "
Handing me the small ball of black fabric I hold out my hands and unravel it. It's a small, and probably skin tight dress. My eyes meet hers in panic. "Noooo I'm not wearing that. It's way too short my mom will kill me"
She pushes it into my chest and closes the door and bars herself against it. "You're not coming out until it's on, so get moving sista" Knowing I'm defeated I started undressing from the sweats and tank top I was in. About 2 minutes later I tell her "ok I'm done" She opens the door and gasps. "Man you look GOOD"
"Turning to look in the mirror I see that she's right. While my un-brushed hair kind of ruins it, the makeup is immaculate and accentuates my high cheekbones and fair skin. A smokey eye look makes me look far more mysterious and confident than I usually feel. Then there's the dress. It's a little higher than mid-thigh and hugs around my hips and chest in a way that resembles an hourglass. I look gorgeous, minus the hair.
Before I even have a chance to say anything she's yanking a brush through my hair. "Ow you ass that hurts"
"language young lady"
"You're 3 months older than me"
"Exactly I'm older and therefore more experienced "
"It hurts"
She brushes my hair softer now but holds a hint of misery in her eyes. Grabbing a curling wand she gets to working on my hair. 24 minutes later I have luscious silvery-blonde curls framing my face.
Finally we're ready. She finished primping herself after doing my hair. Which was the longest part..
We head downstairs and past my mom who shouts as we get out the door " Bye girls have fun!"
"Bye mom love you"
"Bye Miss S.!"
As soon as i close the door a car pulls up and Madison runs toward it. She opens the door and signals me to hurry up. Living by the woods we only drive for a few minutes before we're near the bonfire spot. A flash by the corner of my eye causes me to look out at the woods,, I don't see anything but I already know it was one of them.. We finally pull up to the spot, Endmans Gulf.Where everyone throws parties, at least that's what I've been told. This will be the first one I've ever actually gone to, to Madisons dismay. Getting out the fire is in full swing, although it's only sunset. Taking a moment to look at it I'm in awe of the colors. I sit there for a few minutes just looking. Looking around I see Mads is already enthralled in the chaos of the party.
