Chapter 13

776 Words
I had not set my eyes on Allan since that fateful day at the altar. He had changed for the worst since I had last seen him. He was poorly dressed, and he looked tired and beat. Allan and I had never really been friends. He had been Jack's childhood friend but we never had much to say to each other. He was always jovial and outgoing but right now, he looked distraught, if anything. He approached my desk almost timidly and offered his hand for a shake. For a moment I was tempted to turn it down but I decided against it and shook his extended hand firmly. I wondered what he wanted from me. For a moment I toyed with the idea that Jack might have send him to wreck me up but I quickly discarded it. He was not that type of guy. I watched him as he took a seat opposite me and finally, his mouth kicked into action. "I booked this appointment two weeks ago. I thought I'd never get the chance to see you." I frowned slightly. He sounded desperate. "How can I help you, Allan?" My voice must have been harsh because he hesitated for a moment before replying. "I need a job. Any job. Desperately." My frown deepened with each passing second. "The last time I checked you were working in the same company as Jack." He shook his head. "I was fired three months ago. Jack made sure of that." "What do you mean? "I don't want to over share." "I don't mind." He shook his head and exhaled. "Jack changed. He's... I don't know who the f**k he is anymore." I snorted. "Tell me about it." "We were working in the same department and he wanted us to take a huge bribe to favour a particular client. I refused and threatened to report the case. I lost my job three days later." "You didn't report to Paul?" "He shared the loot with Jack." Damn. This was getting interesting. "What was the name of the client?" "Julie..." "Trust me. This will never be traced back to you." "Shah Company limited." I noted the name on a notepad, my mind working overtime. My chance was here. s**t was about to hit the roof. "How would you like to work for your former company again?" Allan looked startled for a moment. "That would be great, I guess" "You guess?" I lifted my eyebrows. "I mean, I really need the job but working with Jack is not something I'm looking forward to." "I get it. Jack is not a problem any more. You will take his desk on the first day of next month. His job is yours." He opened in mouth in shock. "Just like that? You mean you have such powers?" "What do you think?" I winked at him lightly and walked to the cabinet to pour myself a drink. I went back to the desk and leaned on it, looking at him straight in the eye. "I need a favour in return." "Which is?" I moved away and walked to my favourite spot in the office, at the vast window overlooking the city. "I will tell you when the time is ripe. Go get ready for your new job." He stood up and looked at me disbelievingly. "I don't know how to thank you." "Save it. It's fine. Just go." I watched as he walked out, closing the door behind him. I smiled and toasted my inner demons. My revenge mission was in it's semifinals. I called Paul and he sounded groggy. The bloody bastard was still in bed. "Paul, do you need a job or not?" "I need a job, miss." "Then what the fùck are you doing in bed at nine in the morning?" "I was.. Ummmh.." " Drinking all night? " I finished his sentence for him. He kept quiet. "Take your lazy ass to the office and prepare a dismissal letter for Jack. He should get it when going for his leave next month." "What? Are you crazy?" "You have no idea just how crazy I can get." "Jack is a good guy." "Oh yeah? Why are you always defending him? Did you two collaborate in something that I need to know about?" He took a sharp breath. "No ma'am." "Good. Now go and prepare a fúcking dismissal letter for that fuckér. One more word from you and you'll be preparing two letters." "Yes ma'am" I dropped the phone on the desk and took a sip of my drink. I had Jack by the balls. And I was about to squeeze really hard.
