Harper watches closely, an arrow firm in his hand. All Vaeri needed to do is turn so that he can make his shot. The young Cupid excuses himself, crossing the road so that he stood on the other side. Now he’s created a perfect view. All he needs for either the guy to look up from his phone or Vaeri turning around.
“It’s be perfect if you guys just talked.” Harper murmurs to himself. How on earth was he gonna make those two face each other? Vaeri had somewhat made it very clear that she was avoiding him.
Zach understood what was going on and proceed to follow the girls. They’ve progressed from talking about their teacher to show brands and what type of clothes would fit better during the summer.
Pearl at some point had glanced behind her, making Zach more alert. It almost looked like she was checking to see if he was there. But that would be impossible.
Right?
“Your hands sweating.” Vaeri utters as she brings their clasped hands up. The latter stares at Pearl confusingly. “You okay?”
“Hmm? Yeah I’m fine. It’s just that I uh-… nothing.”
“Now you’re only making me even more curious.”
Zach raises one eyebrow of suspiciousness. Pearl rubs the space behind her neck before pouring at the road- as if to say they should continue walking. Harper on the other hand is running out of patience.
“Just turn around already will you!” The young Cupid yells from the other side of the road. He’s beyond frustrated and would want nothing more than to get this task over with. What the heck was taking them so long to get the job done?
Both Harper and Zach knew the answer. It’s because of these girls. They were something else.
Since this morning, Pearl had been avoiding Stell. If she saw him from a distance, she’d take a different route. Zach could do nothing but watch, patiently waiting for them to run into each other. He was doing okay the first few hours. But at this rate, his string of patience’s about ready to snap in two.
“Just turn around! It’s not that hard!”
“Try yelling a little more louder.” Zach murmurs silently to his friend. They were both feeling the same thing. The both could feel the frustration coursing through their veins. Despite being cupids, they too can run out of energy.
Vaeri turns around, sparking a flare of hope and excitement within Harper. Just as he prepares to shoot his arrow, Vaeri leans down and grabs something from the ground.
“Oh look. A penny.”
“Oh for the love of Aphrodite.” Harper groan while throwing surrendering hands in the air. The arrow falls down in the process of doing so. He leans down too to pick it up just as Zach calls his name.” Harper!”
“What!?”
“Quick shoot!”
Harper looks back up real quick but it was too late. Zach gives his friend a sympathetic frown.
“You’re slow as heck.”
By the time Harper stood up, Vaeri had already taken her gaze away from the guy.
Zach watches as his friend crossed the road once again, boiling in the inside. If he was a volcano right now, he would have already erupted for you. Maybe if he touches him too, he’d be hotter than the sun. Although that is highly inaccurate, it could be possible too.
Harper flares his nose. “That’s it. I give up. She’s just impossible. Im telling the office to give me a different case.”
The fuming Cupid proclaims. “You know you can’t easily do that. Not unless you have a valid reason.”
“Oh I got one. She doesn’t want to get matched up. That sounds like a valid reason to me.”
“You’re gonna have to try harder than that buddy. It’s not easy swaying them.”
“I’d like to see the looks on their faces if we exchange places.” Harper murmurs under his breath.
In front of them, the girls are giggling. Zach still has suspiciousness written all over his face as he stares at Pearl.
He just had to get it out his chest. Because it was eating him in the inside. He’s hesitant at first but eventually opens his mouth to say it.
“Something weird happened last night.” He says in an almost whisper. Like he’s debating whether to go in or not. Harper stares at the ground as they walk further into the street.
Zach raises his hand slightly and stares at it. He’s coke in contact with objects before. But never with a human. How that was possible? He has no idea.
“I…I think I moved her hair last night.”
“You moved who’s hair now?” Harper states without thinking too much about it. After ten seconds of silence, Harper freezes, widens his eyes in realization and whirls his head to look at Zach. “You did what now? You touched her!?”
Zach pulls the lobe of his ear, squinting due to the loud voice. “Don’t say it like that. It sounds weird.”
“What the heck were you thinking? You know the rules. I’m no circumstances should you come in contact with a human-“
“I know what the rules say it’s just so happened that I- it just happened in the spur of the moment. I didn’t mean it.”
Harper’s jaw reaches the floor. “I’m the spur of the moment? What are you gonna tell me next? You kiss her because it just so happened to be in the spur of the moment?”
Zach cringe at from his statement.
“Those rules exist for a reason man. If you go breaking them, who the heck knows what might happen.”
He’s right. Zach lets out a sigh. “What should I do? Should I tell the office?”
Harper shakes his head. “No matter what happens, this should not reach the office.”
