Wrong Arrow 18 Pearl flutters her eyes and they lock gazes. A moment of silence engulfs the both of them. All of a sudden, Zach can’t here the teacher. He can’t hear what’s going on. He’s left frozen, unable to move for the next seconds. His world had come to a stop and he’s not sure of what to do. She’s defiantly looking at him. A draft enters the classroom and causes the ends of her hair to sway with in an elegant motion. He’s unable to look away. Not until Pearl closes her eyes and opens it once again. She slaps a hand across her face and swallow a lump down her throat. As she slowly fixes her position and sits straight, Zach takes a step back, taking his gaze away from her. He scratches the back of his neck, sniffing slightly. What just happened there? Using the back of her hand, she wipes a drool away from the side of her mouth. She seems to be fully awake now, giving the teacher her undivided attention. Zach looks away. Did she see him for a moment? It looked like it. But that can’t be. It’s impossible for humans to see his kind. It just doesn’t work that way. He keeps that thought in mind. At least now, Pearl won’t get detention and his plan will finally commence. The long awaited time had finally came. Everyone begins to pack their books and pens, leaving the classroom right after. “I thought I was gonna die back there.” Vaeri says rather dramatically. She shows exhausted motions, inevitably dragging the time for the both of them. Zach keeps glancing at his watch. They’re taking their time to leave. “Im not ready for next weeks quiz.” When Pearl says that, Vaeri freezes from her stretch. “Please tell me youre joking. Holy crap tell me you’re joking and we don’t actually have a quiz next week.” Pearl gives her an apologetic smile. The girl collapses on her chair, staring into the distance. “I got some answers right but that doesn’t mean im ready for a quiz. “ She mumbles. “At least you got some answers right. I barely paid any attention to the lecture.” Pearl tries to cheer her up. “And you missed him.” Zach from the corner throws his hand in the air. He’s been keeping tabs on the time and Pearl just missed her chance. Stell was just right there. But now he’s gone. If Vaeri was making Harper’s life miserable, Pearl was doing the same to him. Harper comes rushing inside the classroom and finds Zach looking like he’s been pissed off. “Something happened to you?” He asks with hesitancy in his tone. Zach takes in a deep breath and shakes his head, pulling himself away from the entrance of the door he was leaning on. “Nothing.” Harper follows him outside the room, right after checking if Vaeri was inside. Indeed she was. “It doesn’t look like nothing. What did she do?” Zach tucks his hands inside his pockets and kicks a invisible rock away from the floor. Inside, Vaeri pulls herself up and swings her bag behind her. “Shall we get going?” Pearl grabs her bag too, nodding her head. She allows vAeri to take the lead and the girl does so. They begin to converse on their way out. Starting off with the afternoon’s lunch until they reached a subject regarding one of their teachers. Vaeri flickers her hair away from her face, licking her lips. “I mean, it’s not like I don’t like Mr. Shin, it’s just that, he gives us very little score and I think it’s unfair.” Pearl couldnt agree more with her words. Ever section he’s in charge of basically want him out. You can’t have a teacher who insist their answer is right when it actually is wrong. Students can get confused and that won’t help them graduate either. Zach and Harper aren’t too far behind. “This baby should do the trick.” Harper holds a syringe eye level, inside filled with a purple and blue substance. It’s like a whole new universe inside it. He flicks it a little, causing the liquid inside to riffle. According to his calculation, the guy Vaeri’s supposed to be with should be coming any minute now. Class ended just ten minutes ago. And he usually goes through this road. With a sharp gaze, he looks around in search for him. The familiar boy can be seen conversing with his friends, throwing hands and laughing loudly amongst themselves. Vaeri clears the road by kicking a stone away. She loses her balance but pearl captures her before she can stumble and fall. “You okay?” She pokes her arm and stares in awe. “Woah. You have muscles.” Pearl rolls her eyes. “Stop being creepy.” Vaeri laughs right after, proceeding with their previous conversation about their teacher. “But it’s not like I want them to fire him too.” Vaeri proceeds to give her story. “ He’s like what? The only good looking teacher we have.” A bitter expression comes across Pearl’s face. Harper gives Vaeri a look of disbelief. “You do know how weird you sounded just now right?” She tells her only to have Vaeri deny it. “I’m not being weird. I’m dead ass serious. His subject’s the only subject I actually pay attention to. Never mind the grades he gives, appearance wise, he’s a whole coarse meal-” Pearl widens her eyes and slaps a hand across the yapping girls mouth. “Okay that’s enough words coming from you.” Her hands get pulled away and vaeri looks at her with a knowing look. “Oh come. Don’t deny it. You know he’s good looking too. At least fifty percent in our classroom agrees. And remember, girls only take up thirty five person of our section.” Vaeri’s finger glides from the upper arm down to where Pearl’s hand is. She interlaces their fingers together and comes closer to her. “Look at her talk about another man when the one for her is literally right behind her.” Harper utter with so much dissappointmet in his tone. Like a father talking about their child. Zach can’t help but tease him a little bit. Just because he looks tense and frustrated right now. Nudging him by the elbow, the ends of his hair dangles when he bends his body slightly forward to get a look of the guy’s face. “Don’t tell me you’re talking about yourself?” His reaction causes a chuckle to leave him. Zach rakes his fingers across his hair before shielding his vision from the light coming from the setting sun. It strikes his earrings, the silver lining shining from the impact. It’s ridiculous how light’s able to reflect from his earring but then the ugly reminder that he doesn’t exist gets shown when he looks at the shadowless ground. “What? Hell no.” Harper denies it instantly with a look of disgust written all over his face. “I’m talking about the guy behind us.” He jabs a thumb behind his shoulder.
