My life as a single Mom 1
My life as a single Mom 1
I never dreamed of being a single mom and never did I plan for it. I woke up one morning and decided to choose my happiness and peace of mind over everything.
When I see many happy couples that I know, I pray to have such a home. I tried so hard to make my marriage work, but it seemed as if my partner was no longer interested in our joy.
The truth is that I married a good man. Just a day turned our happy home into a sad home. We both made sure that we put each other first.
We were happy and the centre of envy until everything turned sour. I met my husband in 2017 when I went to buy African salad. He was busy making everyone at the eatery laugh hysterically. When I got there, he looked at me and said "My wife, how are you doing? I looked back at him and began to laugh, revealing my diastema (gap tooth). "Oh my God no, not only is she beautiful but she also has a gap tooth" he exclaimed.
Everyone at the eatery laughed out loud. His next question surprised me. "Are you married or single? He asked I smiled and replied, "I'm single."
"In that case, I have seen my wife. I will marry you" he said.
I laughed it off and bought my African salad. On my way out, he tagged along with me "How are you? He asked
"I'm good. Good evening", I replied.
"I would like to know you better if you don't mind."
"I don't mind sir,"
"I'm not a sir, please. Don't give me a rank higher than me. I'm just a struggling boy trying to stand on my feet. I'm Kelechi by name" he said, stretching out his hand.
"I'm Diamond by name" I answered, accepting his handshake.
We exchanged contact and that began our story.
It was his sense of humour that got me more attracted to him. He was a born comedian. He will end up cracking your ribs anytime you are with him. He was transparent, down to earth and clingy. He is the kind of man who wants to spend every Sunday with his girlfriend. He was never interested in intimacy. He made sure that every Sunday was spent in his favourite joint where I ended up laughing till tears soaked my blouse. He was always the center of attraction and people loved and liked him so much, especially the female gender.
Not only was he funny, but also handsome. He was just a WAEC certificate holder while I was just a fresh graduate waiting for my NYSC.
"I didn't go to university because of finance, but I promised myself that I must marry a graduate, especially one that speaks good grammar would use her grammar and scatter my enemies" he would always say. He was an undergraduate with a mature mentality. Early hustling as an adolescent helped to shape his mind about life. Coming from a poor home, he strived from an early age to assist his parents in sponsoring his Secondary School education. He laid his hands on any legal means to make money, he wasn't ashamed to hustle. At the young age of 27, he already owned landed properties used mainly for farming.
The more I got to know that hardworking part of him, positive-minded personal and optimistic side of him, I knew he is a man with a vision. What started as a friendship, has now blossomed into love.
My name is Diamond M. This is my story.
