Chapter one
BEEP BEEP BEEP The sound of my alarm clock drowns me out of my blissful slumber, along with the sun's blinding rays that somehow found its way through my window shining on my face. I release an annoyed groan then turn to face the other side of my bed. BEEP BEEP BEEP "Ugh,shut the f**k up!!!" I cry out in anguish then grab the stupid device and chucked it across the room. I drop back on the bed and resume my peaceful sleep. In my groggy state,I hear the sound of feet stomping up the stairs then stop at the door right outside my room. 'That can't be good.' BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!! "Jessica, open this door!!!" My mum yells at me as her strong fist bangs on my door, almost breaking it off its hinges. I let out another groan of anguish then turn to the other side of my bed, completely ignoring her,but that seems to aggravate her the more as she continues to bang on my door, but more aggressively. "Jessica, get up you're going to be late for school." "Five more minutes, mum." I frown replying her with a typical lazy, sleep loving teenager response. "Jessica Monica Christiana Overt, get off your lazy butt, open this door and start getting ready for school." Well f**k,she used my full name, now I know I'm in deep s**t. "Do I have to?" I whine. "Of course not,if it weren't a new school. Now get off your lazy ass." Woah, she's cussing now? She's definitely mad. "Language, mum." "Don't make me come in there." "Fine I'll get up,happy?" I mumble the last part. "Good, make sure you get ready as soon as possible, breakfast is almost done." She says then I hear her footsteps retreating back down the stairs. "Yes,mother." I sigh. I bounce off the bed and get on my feet, stretching my body like a cat stopping only when I felt my spine about to break. I place my palm on my gaping mouth as I yawn, opening my eyes I look around my room studying every detail. From the dresser at the far corner of the room,to the bed, with beside tables on each side,in front of window in the middle of the room,to my closet beside it then lastly my bathroom four feet away from the room door. Aside from the furniture, the details of the room are quite particular. Instead of any specific bright or girly paint colors I opt out for black and tiny shades of red shaped little and big circles. "Jessica, are you getting ready for school or are you sleeping again?" My mum shouts to me from downstairs. "Getting ready, mum." With a final yawn I turn rushing to pick an outfit from the closet. I sigh as I open the closet door scanning for an outfit. "Got it." I cheer when I finally manage to pull out the perfect outfit. It was a black sleeveless turtleneck with high waisted blue denim pants and thin black jacket, for footwear I chose a pair of black ankle boots and for accessories a simple charm bracelet gifted to me by someone special. "There we go,a perfect outfit for a not so perfect first day." I said as I placed my whole get up on my bed. "Time for a bath." I clasp my hands together and walk towards the bathroom. After opening the door I walk into the bathroom. I study the view in front of me. The shower at the far right corner, the sink next to the door and the toilet on the left side of the shower. I grab a towel to cover myself after removing my pyjamas. Stepping into the shower I turn on the water to a lukewarm temperature and start washing myself. I squirt a bottle of strawberry scented shampoo and start washing my hair then add a couple of squirts of vanilla scented conditioner. Turning off the water,I wrap myself with my towel and head out. I tread carefully because of the water dripping from my body and the possibility of slipping. I head out of the bathroom into my room, after finding another towel to wrap my hair in,I sat in front of the mirror of my dresser. Letting out a sigh I release my hair from the towel, letting the still wet midnight black tresses loose like a waterfall. Grabbing the blow drier on the dresser I start drying my hair. After making sure it was dry enough I begin to rub some olive oil with coconut oil on my hair. As soon as I was done I got up to change into my outfit before heading downstairs for breakfast. "Hmph." I huff after I was done putting my shoes on. Standing in front of a full length mirror next to my dresser I study my outfit. "Nicely done,Jessie." I smirk. I grab my bag filled with stuff for school I prepared last night and my phone that was charging on the bedside table then headed downstairs. "Morning." I yell as I jump from the last step to the living room. "Morning love." My dad replies, his British accent sounding prominent. I rush up to where he was seated and hug him from behind. "Hey Dad." I cheerfully greet him, imitating his British accent. "Well,I'm quite glad you could grace us with your presence." My mum harrumphs at me. Standing at the door of the kitchen s***h dining room she looks at me with her arms folded, dressed in a pink apron that says cooking mama in a white shaped heart. "Morning to you too, mum." I hug her with a slight peck on her cheek. "Well,I'll say it's a good morning indeed, after you finally decided to get your butt off your bed." She narrows her eyes at me. "Sorry, mum,I was so tired after packing yesterday." "Yeah, yeah, talk to me after you come up with a better excuse." My mum waves me off with her hand then turns and enters the kitchen. "Don't be so hard on her, love. She's only sixteen." My Dad walks behind the counter proceeding to hug my mum from behind as she cooks. "About to be seventeen, she's not a child anymore Frank." My mum says, diving out of my dad's embrace with a pan full of fried bacon. "All the more for us to treat her like one." My mum rolls her eyes at him as she pours four slices of bacon each on our plates with two slices of bread. After pouring two cups of coffee for both her and dad,and a cup of strawberry milk for me,did she sit down. We all begin to dive into our plates of food. Once all my food was done I gurgled the glass of strawberry milk then place the cup down with a satisfied sigh. I hear my dad chuckling at my behavior then laughing at something else, turning my head,I see what he was laughing at or specifically who. My mum was glaring daggers at me,probably because of the way I was eating. "Hehe,so dad,got any plans for today." I turn to my dad, hoping to get the feeling of my skull tearing to pieces away from me. "Yeah, today we're having a meeting with a board of directors at the company." He says, still busy chewing on a strip of bacon. "Ugh,stop it." My mum grabs the strip of bacon from his hands, but he takes another one and munches on it plafully as he faces my mum. Rolling her eyes at his childishness she still smiles at him. "So what about you, mum. Anything going on at the office today?" "Nope,I got a 2 week leave from work." She replies me while taking a sip of her coffee. I drop my head in disappointment then perk up once I digested the information. I thought she was going to say yes. "Really?" I reveal a big smile as my eyes lit up. "Hmmhm." She hums as she continues to take a sip of her coffee. Without any warning I toss myself into her body and tightly locked my arms around her. "Oh,my goodness,Jessica?" She shouts my name, preventing her still hot coffee from spilling onto my body and scalding me,but I didn't care. "Yes,you're going to stay home,I'm so happy, you rarely stay home. I'm so happy." I hide my face in her embrace. She sighs and returns my hug. "Me too, love. With my leave I could finally keep a close eye on you." She ruffles my hair. "Speaking of leave,it's time to go. Come on buster,I'll drive you to school." My dad gets up from his seat, picking up his car keys from the table he waits for me. "Oh,no worries dad,I'll just take Lightning to school." I place a leftover bacon from my dad's plate and chucked it into my mouth. I looked at my parents and find they were looking at me in discomfort. I sigh and asked them what was wrong. "Are you sure you're gonna be okay riding that motorcycle? I don't particularly think it's safe." My mum places her hand on my head. "Yeah, you know it's no problem for me to take you to school right, buster." My dad adds in reassurance. "I know, but really I'll be fine. This isn't the first time I've ridden Lightning, you know?" "I know, but I trust that bike as far as I can throw it." My mum frowns. "You can't throw a bike, mum." "Exactly." She narrows her eyes at me. "I'll be fine, trust me okay?" "Okay." My mum says begrudgingly. "Alright, see you two at night." My dad ruffles my hair then turns to leave. "Let me walk you out." My mum stands up and trails after my dad. While they are busy saying their goodbyes,I quickly chug down another glass of strawberry milk and wolf down two slices of bacon before she came back. "Jessica, isn't it time for you to go to school? You don't want to be late now,do you?" I turn to her as I try to swallow the bacon in my mouth but it was to big for my throat to swallow. My mum frowns at me as she realises what I was doing. "Sometimes I wonder if I raised a boy or a girl." She says as she shakes her head. "Sorry mum no time to talk, gotta go to school." I kiss her cheek then grabbed my bag and raced to the door. "Bye." I race down the foot of the stairs then turned to the direction of the garage. I pushed the button by the side and the door lifts open. The sight of a messes up garage comes into view. Tools sprawled around the floor, oil spills and dirty cloths perched on shelves. I walked deeper avoiding the possibility of stepping on the oil or tools. I spot something covered in a tarp then yank it off, revealing a blue BMW R1200RT motorcycle or as I like to call her,Lightning. "Hey girl." I said as I ran my finger across the seat. "It's been so long." I strap my bag behind the seat then bend down looking into the mirror. I frown at the blue eyes looking back at me. I reach into my pocket and bring out a small box, opening it I pop it's content into my eyes. I blink a couple of times then look at the mirror again, satisfied with the change of color I put the box back and hop on Lightning. Igniting the engine I ride out of the garage and into the streets, the garage door closing behind me.
