The next few months were filled with joy and anticipation.
Maya's belly grew, and the pack buzzed with excitement. Everyone was eager to meet the new pup, the future heir of the Silvermoon Pack.
Kai was protective and attentive. He was always by Maya's side, making sure she ate well, rested enough, and didn't overwork herself. He talked to her belly every night, telling the pup stories about the pack and the moon.
"Your father is going to spoil you rotten," Maya told her belly one evening.
"I can't help it," Kai said, pressing a kiss to her stomach. "I'm already in love with our little one."
The night of the birth arrived unexpectedly.
Maya woke in the middle of the night, a sharp pain radiating through her body. She gasped and reached for Kai.
"Kai," she said, her voice strained. "It's time."
Kai was awake in an instant. "I'm here. I'm right here."
The birth was intense but beautiful. The pack healer, an old wolf named Selene, guided Maya through the process. Kai held her hand the entire time, never leaving her side.
"Push," Selene instructed. "One more push."
Maya screamed and pushed with all her strength. And then, a cry filled the room, a tiny, beautiful cry.
Maya collapsed against the pillows, exhausted but overjoyed. Selene placed a tiny bundle in her arms.
"It's a boy," Selene said, smiling. "He's perfect."
Maya looked down at her son. He was small and wrinkled, with a tuft of dark hair and the most beautiful silver eyes she had ever seen. He was perfect.
"He's beautiful," Maya whispered, tears streaming down her face. "He looks just like you."
Kai reached out and touched the baby's tiny hand. The baby wrapped his finger around Kai's, and Kai's eyes filled with tears.
"Hello, little one," Kai said, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm your father. I'm going to love you forever."
"What should we name him?" Maya asked.
Kai thought for a moment. "How about Eli? It means 'wolf' in the old language."
Maya smiled. "Eli," she repeated, looking at her son. "Welcome to the world, Eli."
The pack celebrated. The joy was overwhelming. Maya looked at Kai, holding their son in his arms, and felt a love so powerful it took her breath away.
"Thank you," she whispered. "For everything."
"No," Kai said, kissing her forehead. "Thank you. For giving me the greatest gift of all. Our son."
