On the day Astrid Reed is meant to marry her mate, her world collapses into shame.

Her Beta groom stands at the altar holding another woman— her replacement— while the entire pack watches her humiliation in silence. Stripped of her future and forced into a political marriage, Astrid is sent away like a burden no one wants.

But Astrid carries a secret even if she does not fully understand.

She is Moonborn.

A rare bloodline feared by werewolves for generations.

It was powerful, dangerous, nurturing.

And after her public rejection, something inside her begins to awaken.

When fate places her before the ruthless Lycan King, Astrid expects another man who will look down on her.

Instead, he looks at her like she is the most terrifying thing he has ever seen.

And he wants her anyway.

Chapter One: A Bride In Tattered Gold Astrid’s POV It was my wedding and I would be getting married to the man of my dreams, my one and only true mate. My figure in the mirror was ethereal, and I looked like the main character of an eternal love story. A bride stepping into a new chapter of her life with the man she loved. I swirled in my shimmering gold dress, wearing the biggest smile on my face. My dark hair was curled at the ends, and framed my small face perfectly. My appearance was perfect and I couldn't wait till I could walk down the aisle. I heard footsteps coming towards me from behind, and spun around, still smiling. “What do you think, Mama?" A little girl, holding a bouquet of roses bigger than her head, looked up with the widest cutest eyes. "It is very pretty on you, Big Sis.” She paused, looking over the dress as if she realized something important and I knew what it was. "It isn't purple though. A purple dress is prettier.” A small chuckle left me, because happiness was all I felt at that moment. I gently lifted her off the ground, using a hand to hold her back firmly. "Big Sis wants a gold dress today. Don't worry, we will both wear purple soon, okay?” I rubbed my forehead gently against hers and she giggled. She was my joy, and having to share this happy day with my little cousin was more than I ever thought I would experience after all the things we both suffered. My eyes shifted to the door in anticipation. Outside, my mate, the Beta Kennen of my pack, The Writhed Rose Pack waited for me. My head was raised high as I marched to the door with graceful strides, having my cousin beside me. I’ve never felt happier for a long time. Suddenly, the door slammed open and I froze at the door. It was my headmaid who ran in, panting heavily. My heart skipped a beat. “W-What is it, Mary?” Mary raised her head and I saw her wet pale face and her eyes brimmed with tears. That heightened my worries. “Sabrina… she’s getting married… right now.” My mind blanked as she said that. The Alpha's daughter was getting married? I walked out calmly, like a bride should, leaving Mary in her crying mess even if I felt guilty. My jaw dropped when I walked out and saw my groom and my mate with the Alpha's daughter, Sabrina, who was clinging to his arms… in a bridal gown? I stayed calm, though my mind raced for possible conclusions. A lump grew in my throat as I found myself walking down the aisle, alone. This wasn’t what I dreamt of. “Big Sis!” my cousin called excitedly behind me. I froze, taking the chance to regulate my breathing. I felt her hand wrap around mine. She smiled. “I walk with Big Sis, right?" She looked up at me with a bright expression. I couldn't reciprocate the smile. My little cousin was to walk me down along with the Alpha's wife as my only surviving parental figure. A small frown came to my lips as I looked up at my mate, Kennen. His gaze was on me, but not of anticipation or adoration for how I looked. I did my best not to look at my Alpha's daughter as I walked down. There was no reason for Sabrina to hate me this much. I had never done anything to her. “Kennen.” My voice came out stronger than I expected. “What’s Sabrina doing—” I couldn’t. I couldn’t accept that he held Sabrina like she was his greatest possession. “It seems like you can’t read the… hall.” The Alpha's wife marched from the crowd where fifty guests sat, all quiet within the hall, watching this foolery play out. And I was the unconsenting scapegoat. “What do you mean by that, stepmother?” my voice was rising. “This is my wedding! Why is Sabrina—” I still couldn’t say it or it’ll mean I accepted whatever this was. Kennen was my mate and I’ve always felt it since I turned fifteen. He felt the same. We had grown to know and love each other, so he would never hurt me. “Astrid!” My stepmother snapped me from my thoughts. “Kennen is no longer interested in his marriage with you. Instead, you’d be getting married to another!” How could she..?! There’s no way. I glared at Kennen but he just stood there, like a dummy, his eyes were blank and nothing was on his face. Was he still the Kennen I knew? I closed the distance. But my stepmother came in front of me and I forcefully pushed her aside, earning gasps from the guests. My steps were heavy and Kennen moved back when I came close. My eyes were burning but I didn’t take them off him. “WHAT. IS. HAPPENING?” Sabrina hadn’t stepped back when I came close, despite me being of higher rank than she was. Instead, she came forward, holding her bridal gown gracefully. “What do you think is happening, Astrid? Your dear friend is getting married.” She blinked with a grin. My fists clenched. Since when had she been planning this betrayal against me? “Don’t mess with me, Sabrina. He’s mine! Didn’t you agree to marry the Crown Prince of our Kingdom?” The King had asked the Alpha’s daughter to be married to his nephew and heir. Her father was the Alpha of this Pack, but had fallen ill. Kennen had been the one handling the pack affairs. I had hoped to get married to help him in the pack, as the niece of the former Alpha. The current Alpha's daughter agreed to marry the Crown Prince to keep our pack on good terms with the King. Why was she pulling this nonsense now? “About that,” I heard my stepmother say behind me. "There is a change in plans or dare I say, a change in bride. You, Astrid Reed, will be getting married to the Crown Prince."
